Chapter 18: A 30-Day Crash Course in Magic
James sat upright on the bed, steel longsword aside.
"Luck...... Concentrate ......"
He slowly stretched out his right hand, the tip of his index finger pointing upwards.
"Bang!"
This time, the sound was finally no longer a rumbling thunder, but a crisp and loud metal crash, and the power released was much smaller. James opened his eyes and nodded in satisfaction.
"Is the control more powerful again? Looks like magic is much easier than I thought it would be......"
He sighed and looked out the window. At this time, it was late at night, the sky was full of stars, and a bright moon hung lazily in a dark corner, lazily sprinkling a trace of white moonlight.
"Why don't you go out for a walk?" James immediately stopped his sleepiness and muttered to himself. He didn't answer himself, but his actions already showed his impatience. He quickly got dressed, hesitated, and still did not go out with his sword, but chose to travel lightly and not take a weapon to defend himself.
"This thing should be able to protect itself, right?" James held out his finger again, using magic to create a small explosion in the air. "Forget it, no matter, can't I run if I can't beat me?"
The inn's name was "The Girl from Kingsbridge," and the drunken man was now enjoying himself in the inn's little bar, and he glanced at James and nodded, as if he was coming over again. James coughed twice, shuddered at the thought of what he had borrowed money from him before. He covered his face and quickly left the noisy place.
The night in Kingsbridge is beautiful, the streets and alleys are empty, only the street lights are still bright. The lights in most of the homes have been turned off, except for a grocery store next to the hotel. He glanced at the grocery store, and thinking that walking to that place would mean approaching the gates of Kingsbridge, shook his head, and changed directions, ready to visit the famous King's Bridge.
The King's Bridge is a marble arch bridge with 12 stone arches, and 48 stone griffons stand on the bridge, all of them with fierce faces, as if they were about to pounce on passers-by walking on the bridge. On a big night, James really felt his scalp tingle when he walked here.
"What are you looking at?" James saw a griffin glaring at him, so he turned his face to the stone statue and said, "Believe it or not, I kicked you down?"
After waiting for a while, the stone statue's expression did not change at all. James came back to his senses, smiled and sighed, and secretly clenched his fists again.
"I haven't tried to strike with all my might, and now that everyone is asleep and there's no one on King's Bridge, I might as well test my ultimate. James muttered to himself. He stretched out his hand, pointed his palm against the surface of the Blue Mist River, and began to turn the magic power of his body. There was no light on the Blue Mist River, and the moonlight fell, flashing sparkling on the surface of the river. A round of moon reflected on the river, as if it really was as dazzling as it was in the sky.
"Drink ......" James frowned, his whole body straightened, and he felt the warm current on his body continue to gather in his palm, until he could no longer resist the surging power and let it launch out of his palm, a huge wave more than ten meters high had already set off on the surface of the river.
James' mouth was wide open, and he used his hands to block the invasion of the waves, but he was still drenched all over his body. Some of the waves had already hit the roofs and walls of several houses built on the banks of the river, and suddenly James saw the lights of those houses come on.
"Lean ......"
James gritted his teeth nervously and tiptoed to get out of the place, when suddenly, he heard someone call out to him.
"Hey, that little brother in front, you wait......"
"Huh?"
James turned his head nervously, and was about to explain, only to find that the person who came was an old man in a blue robe. Looking at his dress, he looked a bit like the magician in the magic tower in the Sakya Forest before. Could this man be a magician, too? James wondered.
The bearded old man with white flowers, holding a long staff in one hand, chased after him. He seemed to be running, but in fact he was extremely slow, and James saw that he didn't seem to have any malicious intent, so he waited here for a while.
The old man ran over panting, held on to the staff and took a few breaths, and then said, "Little brother, you were ...... just now"
"Hey, who shamelessly threw water on the roof of our house?!"
A cold sweat broke down James' back.
"That...... Grandpa, it's not appropriate for us to talk on this bridge, or should we change places?" James didn't wait for the old man in front of him to speak, he grabbed his arm and ran towards the other end of the bridge.
"Uh-uh...... You're too fast!"
James almost dragged the old man to a hidden place, and both of them were exhausted.
I wonder if I can make my physique better by blessing the power of magic on my body? James gasped for breath and calmed his heartbeat as he pondered such a possibility.
"Young man......" The old man finally relieved himself. "You're just ......"
"That...... I'm really sorry if I disturb your sleep......" James was sweating profusely.
"No, no, no, I couldn't sleep either...... "Speaking of this, the old man in front of him immediately became angry. "I'll tell you the truth, my whole belongings have been stolen by a thief!"
"Huh?" James seemed to remember something. "You're the magician that the drunkard called you......"
"That's right. Originally, I came here to take a trip and see the scenery or something, but all the valuable things in my body were stolen by that kid, and now I am penniless and can't go back to Turan. ”
The old man said, leaning against the wall, as if he had experienced the vicissitudes of life.
"Grandpa, doesn't that person look like a thief and skinny?"
"Hmmm......"
"Damn!" James scolded.
"What's wrong? young man?"
"It's nothing, I'm just going to break his neck. James exhaled. "He stole my inheritance letter, which is equivalent to stealing a huge amount of my inheritance...... I chased him from Lonega all the way to Kingsbridge, and I didn't expect you to be a victim too, hey......"
"Ah...... It turns out that this kid has also stolen your things. The old man's white beard trembled uncontrollably. "If you find him, remember to bring him to me, and I will show him what it means to be the last vice president of the Wizards' Guild......"
James looked at him and held out his hand.
"James. ”
"Janold. The old magician shook his hand. "Young man, I want to ask, how did you just make such a big bang?"
"Explosion?"
"yes, and I felt the power of magic. "What's more, I didn't see the fire, nor did I see the lightning, or the lightning, or anything else that could have caused the explosion," said Garnold, who turned to face him and leaned on his crutches. Rather, it's like a complete force effect, a pure use of magical power. I've never seen anyone use magic like this, James, how did you do that?"
"Huh?" James touched his head. "I don't know, that's what I did......"
Giarnold has black lines all over his head.
"You're so young, you should be a beginner, right?
"Oh, and that's only five days in total. ”
Janod was silent for a moment.
"Who's your teacher?"
"Huh, why do you ask this?"
"I see that your teacher not only taught you how to use magic, but also how to brag. ”
"No, I really only studied for five days, and I don't have a teacher, I just read the book by myself......" James also wanted to cry without tears.
Jano looked at him, as if to say, "No way, I'm just that good." "Generally underwhelmed.
"Who gave you your magic books? I don't think you can buy them on the street. ”
"Oh, an old magician named Densur. ”
Giarnold coughed a few times.
"What's wrong with you? Are you alright?" asked James, worried.
"Nothing?" said Giarnold, waving his hand. "It's just a bit of a head-scratching name to hear. Without mentioning that, I still want to ask you, how did you manage to create such an attack just by urging the magic power in your body?"
"It's simple. James held out a hand. "Feel the magic in your body and bring it together on your fingers. ”
"Bang!"
Janold was silent again. After a while, the white-bearded old man also stretched out a crumpled hand, and then his whole body tensed, exercising the magical power of his body, and then created a wisp of green smoke on his finger.
"Uh......" James paused. "Is this really hard?"
Janold withdrew his hand and was silent again for a moment, and just as James was about to ask, he suddenly met him with a smile on his face. James looked at his face, stunned for a moment, and subconsciously took a step back.
"How...... How...... What do you want to do, Giarnold?"
"It's nothing, young man......" the old man still smiled evilly. "Would you like to learn some magical skills?"
"Huh?" Hearing this, James suddenly remembered what the long-nosed mage had said to him earlier, "Once you have mastered all the points in this magic tome, you can find someone else to learn more advanced skills." So, he quickly nodded.
"Ahahahahaha!" said Giarnaud laughing. "Finally, those from the Wizards' Guild! Wait, I, Giarnold, am finally going to get ahead!"
After laughing, he lowered his head and said mysteriously, "But let me teach you magic is not free......
"I don't really have much money on me......"
"No, no, no, I don't want money. Giarnold shook his head.
"And what do you want?"
"It's easy," Janold said, stroking his white beard, his eyes narrowing into a semicircular slit. "When someone asks you why magic is so powerful, you tell them: Master Janod can do magic for 30 days, and ordinary people can be magicians, and now it only costs 500 gold coins at half price, and only 500 gold coins! Don't miss ...... when you pass by."
“......”
