Chapter Twenty-Nine: Silent Murder
"The deceased's name is Lucio Moreno, a native of E-country, a professor at the University of St. Andrew. Chiko found a wallet and folder in his travel bag, from which the identity of the deceased was discovered. Judging from the handouts and invitations in the folder, he is going to Bacchus in country F to participate in a forum called "World Children's Music Enlightenment".
Continuing to concentrate on the scene, Eric asked, "Is there anyone else?"
"No, this room seems to be the only thing he has in this room. Chiko flipped through the handouts in the folder.
At this point, Scott explained, "Actually, all the seats in this standard room have been booked, but in the end, only Professor Lucio came, and the other three did not come. Even an outsider like Scott thinks this coincidence is too bizarre.
Eric struggled to crack the dead man's mouth, glanced at it, and stood up. He looked around, and the burn marks left by the fire were confined to a few places in the room, and the burn marks were unusually shaped, as if someone had drawn the boundaries of the fire in advance. But Eric first had to solve the first doubt: "Mr. Scott, may I ask if the smoke alarm in this room is in good condition." ”
Mr. Scott politely replied, "This is also what I find very strange, after inspection, the smoke alarm in room 303 is fine, but by the time the alarm sounds, it has ......" He looked at the ground that had been burned to expose the train deck, and showed an incredulous expression. Chiko understood the problem, a cigar could set off a smoke alarm, and the fire at the scene was far more ferocious than the cigarette butt of a cigar, but judging from the degree of burns on the corpse, the smoke alarm did not sound until the deceased was burned beyond recognition, which was too unusual.
"You look for me. Bob appeared at the door of the room in a long time coming.
"You're late. "Scott was very upset, and the guy didn't listen to his instructions - stay out of the door.
"The scene just now is terrible, I went to the duty room to calm down. Bob looked pained.
"Extenuating circumstances. Even in my detective career, such a hideous and terrifying scene is very rare. Eric gave Bob a mysterious smile, "Now tell me about the situation." ”
Bob pushed his black-rimmed glasses and sighed, seemingly reluctant to recall the scene. "The smoke alarm on 303 triggered the train's fire alarm, and I happened to be in car 2, so I rushed over immediately," he said. I saw black smoke coming out of the crack in the door of room 303, and there was a smell of burning, so I didn't care much about it, and just opened the door with the key and went in. ”
"You were alone?" asked Eric.
"Yes, Mr. Detective. Bob insisted.
Scott frowned, and asked puzzledly, "Isn't there the slightest movement?" ”
Bob was still very sure: "Yes, there is no one else, and there is no movement, and if the movement is loud, this Mr. Detective and this young lady must have heard it." Because they live in 305. ”
Qianzi pursed her lips, there is nothing wrong, it is not easy to hide the eyes and ears of a detective and two agents. But she didn't want to be pushed out as a shield. She glanced at Eric again, the detective pulling out a pair of tweezers out of nowhere, picking at the charred debris on the ground.
"Did you find anything?" asked Scott tentatively.
Eric gestured to a large charred mark in the center of the room, gesturing its shape. He asked Scott, "Do you think this mark looks like the body of a deceased?" ”
Scott looked sideways for a moment, muttering, "Like, really like." You think Professor Lucio was set on fire there?"
"That's right, Professor Lucio must have been murdered there and dragged behind the door, so there's a charred black drag mark here before the body waves/hits the door. Eric walked over to a ribbon of burn marks that stretched to the doorway.
"But if you follow your reasoning, how did the murderer escape? Bob deliberately spread his arms and swayed his upper body slightly to indicate that there was no other exit here. In her heart, Chiko hated Bob's posturing
"And I remember that Professor Lucio looked like he was only in his 40s, very mental, and if the murderer wanted to kill him, he couldn't have resisted a little. I also asked all the flight attendants that Professor Lucio didn't buy any drinks and meals, so it was unlikely that he would be drugged and stunned. It is really incredible to subdue a middle-aged man of 1.9 meters without making any movement at once. Scott's doubts impressed Chiko and how this skinny, child-faced young man could become the purser of the Eurostar.
"So it's memorable, Mr. Scott. It was a silent murder in a closed room. At this point, Eric's eyes seemed to sparkle, and as Leonardo said, only a great murder could fully activate his brain.
A distressed Scott struggled to decipher Eric's inexplicable excitement - interpreting the passenger's expression was the secret of his position as purser, but he eventually gave up: "Okay, Mr. Detective, what do I do next?"
Eric did not answer directly: "Please find us a spacious space, and in fifteen minutes I would like to hear the statements of the passengers in the 302, 304 and 305 compartments of this car." ”
Back in his 301 room, Leonardo was asleep in his seat with his neck on his back, probably drinking a lot of brandy. Caitlin was sorting through some information about Professor Lucio on a tablet, and Chiko immediately sent the name of the deceased to her phone.
"How. Caitlin asked very generally.
Eric understood the message she was asking for: "Well, it has nothing to do with our trip to Paris. Even Eric himself didn't know how he could have such a tacit understanding with this female agent who had known her for less than a month.
"This Professor Lucio seems to be quite famous. Chiko browsed through Caitlin's tablet, and the entire page of the browser was filled with news reports about the professor.
"As you can see, he is a scholar of a small reputation. Professor Lucio focuses on children's musical initiation and is the President of the European Charity Foundation for Children's Music Initiation. Caitlin wrote down the paperwork in a small notebook and handed it to Eric.
"There are many celebrities, is there any negative news about him?" said Eric, skimming through the clear notes on his notebook.
"He has a very positive image and has not seen any negative news about him. Caitlin spread her hands regretfully, "Almost all the reports about him praise his noble character, his selfless character, this man devoted almost all his energy to the cause of children's musical enlightenment, although he wore many hats, but only received the salary of a university professor, and the rest was unpaid." Therefore, he is praised as a mentor of future European music. ”
"It's a pretty lofty title, so the new question arises, what is the motive for killing?" Eric clasped his hands together and pressed his fingertips to his jaw.
