Chapter 119: The Madman's Wish
Perhaps this was the most blind act of Catelyn's goal. She didn't know what to say, what to hear, what to believe, or whether she should have learned about Eric with one shot when she saw Eric.
Now, the whole base is filled with the sound of fierce firefights and the smell of blood. The residents who had been controlled were liberated by someone and became a group of hungry wolves who fought back. However, in Catelyn's eyes, these hungry wolves were just catalysts for her murderous nature. No matter how much the soldiers around her tried to dissuade her, Catelyn had been at the forefront of the battle, and it seemed that only after satisfying her desire to kill could she calmly see the man she was about to face.
After some time, Caitlin with a bloodshot face arrived in front of Felix's cell. She let out a long breath and kicked open the obstructive door. But the movement in the cell was not what she expected, but a little too calm. At this moment, Caitlyn suddenly felt a dangerous aura behind her. As soon as she turned her head, she saw two men jump out of the window facing the cell, shooting clouds of smoke at her.
No sooner had the smoke erupted from the spout than a cold wind blew out the window, sending the smoke into Catelyn's snort. Caitlyn felt dizzy. That's when she discovered the ingenuity of the killers' attack: the calm cell was actually a decoy to attract her attention, and while she was hesitating, two killers climbing outside the window jumped into the hallway, and the most ingenious thing was to jump into the back of the foot. With her back to the two men, Caitlin could only shoot with one hand if she chose to shoot, and if she chose to shoot back, the distance would not be enough. Although the smoke of the two killers has a limited spray distance, with the help of the cold air outside the window, it just makes up for the shortcomings of distance and speed.
"Unloaded her gun and helped her in. In a trance, Caitlin heard this voice that stuck with her - Eric. She held her dizzy head, struggling to see the man in front of her. Even though the image in front of him swayed, the signature curly hair and the evil smile undoubtedly proved Chiko's anger.
"Ericβyou!" Caitlyn's voice was weak, but there was still a hint of hatred in it.
"I have to do this!" Eric's voice, though faint, reverberated in Caitlyn's heart as if a huge stone had been thrown down in an empty valley.
I don't know how many minutes passed, maybe a minute, maybe two minutes, maybe three minutes, but in Caitlin's mind it was a night time, that night with Eric to the fullest, every kiss, every skin rubbing, clearly appeared. Suddenly, a basin of cold water poured over Caitlin's head, making her sober up a lot.
"You shouldn't have broken in. Eric said lightly.
When Caitlin came to her senses, she saw herself imprisoned in a bar, sitting in Felix's detained chair, and her hope for Eric was completely extinguished.
"You're well disguised. Caitlyn laughed coldly.
"I don't need to pretend, I've always been that person. Eric shook his head and denied.
"yes, at least the detective I knew was on my side. Catelyn's eyes flashed with a fierce look.
"Your side, the righteous side?" said Eric, smiling softly, "Jefferson once perfectly demonstrated true humanity and justice, and in the end he died precisely in his ideal of justice. β
"So you gave up?" A hint of disappointment flashed in Caitlin's eyes, could it be that the man who had been with her all night was just a weak chicken who couldn't stand up to failure?
"I have never given up, but my understanding of justice is much broader and more inclusive than yours. "And you're only seeing one side of the coin. β
"I didn't expect you to have such philosophical quibbles. Caitlyn sneered, "I'm not a Chiko, and emotional explanations not only don't help me, but they make me feel sick." β
"There is no need for a philosophy, just a figurative metaphor, whether it is the head or the tail of the coin, they all have the same value of this coin. Therefore, your so-called justice has no special value. Eric continued to explain.
"And then, after the preaching, what else?" Caitlyn was puzzled, "what else do you want from me, intelligence, feelings, or my life?"
"I'll let you go. Eric said lightly, "I just hope you can let me go." β
"In where I'm now, it's really a sure-fire deal. Caitlin suddenly felt very sad.
"As long as you're here, you're absolutely safe and you can leave this Iceland alive. Eric continued.
"What about Chiko?" Catelyn suddenly thought of her female companion who had all the news now.
"I don't know. Eric held back the emotions that were about to overflow, "Good luck to her." β
"Why are there two Erics. Who the hell is that person Chiko is facing!Otherwise, how do you know she'll have good luck? Caitlin asked tentatively.
"You should know his name. Eric said calmly, as if he had calmly accepted his identity.
"What?" Caitlyn felt a hint of something unusual.
"Puffer Soros Drake. Eric reluctantly said the name himself.
"So, so, you-" Catelyn's eyes widened in surprise.
"Like I said, good and evil are two sides of the same coin, and me and him are such a coin. Eric suddenly laughed at himself, "I don't think you, Mrs. Hudson, even I can imagine that the mystery of the Book of Abraham that we have been looking for is actually me, and I have always been in front of your eyes." β
"That's why you're leaning towards Drake?" Catelyn was surprised, but she still kept her judgment at bay.
"In fact, I do want to kill him and become the only one in Eric's life. But he has what I want, he has the world I want. Eric paused, "So I have to work with him." β
"So you want to have another extreme assassination with him?" Catelyn couldn't guess Eric's next intention, and now he was very strange to her.
"Assassinating 10 presidents will not solve the world's most fundamental problems. Eric said unhurriedly.
"And what do you want to do?" Caitlyn had a vague feeling that Eric had hatched an idea that could turn the world upside down.
"All I can tell you is that I can do what Puffel Mailer didn't do hundreds of years ago. Eric was clearly reluctant to reveal more.
"That's the madman's wish! you know!" Catelyn reminded aloud.
"But it's always the madmen who change the world. β
