DND Nine Camps [Repost]
Factions are the categorization of characters, creatures, and the ethical attitudes of groups in the setting of the tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons.
In earlier versions of Dungeons & Dragons, there were three factions for players to choose from: Order, which values honor and respects the rules of society, Chaos, which means ignoring honor, order, and society, and Neutral, which represents a neutral position that is not either. The Advanced Dungeons & Dragons provides another axis: Good, Neutral, and Evil, which combine with the previous axes to form the current Nine Factions.
Orderliness and kindness
Order and goodness are also known as the "crusader" camp or the "saints" camp. The actions of a typical orderly and good person are always motivated by love and with a sense of honor and responsibility. A well-behaved country will have well-functioning government institutions that serve its people. Righteous knights, paladins, and most of the dwarves belong to the Order Good faction, while the Order Good creatures include the Golden Dragon and the Winged Lion. Orderly, virtuous characters are expected from all, and they are disciplined and do not hesitate to stand up against evil. They speak the truth, keep their promises, help those in need, speak out against injustice, and are lawless and good-willed people who do not want to see impunity.
Order-abiding and virtuous characters, especially the Paladin, often find themselves in a dilemma where good is in conflict with the law. For example, when the fulfillment of the oath is likely to harm the innocent, or when religious laws contradict local laws.
The strength of orderliness and kindness is that it can combine a sense of honor and compassion.
In the dossier CompleteScoundrel, Batman, Dick Tracy, and Indiana Jones are all listed as the Good and Orderly camp.
Neutrality and kindness
Neutral kindness is also known as the "benefactor" camp. Neutral and virtuous characters are guided by their own conscience and give for others without expecting anything in return, but at the same time take care not to break the law or precepts. They were also willing to work for the king or lord, but did not consider themselves obligated to them. If they feel compelled to break the law in the process of doing good, they will not be caught in a dilemma like the orderly and kind characters. Creatures such as centaurs, ground pygamides, giant eagles, and pseudo-dragons all belong to the neutral good camp.
The advantage of neutral kindness is that doing good is not influenced by class prejudices.
Both Zorro and Spider-Man are listed as prime examples of neutral goodness in CompleteScoundrel.
Chaos is kind
Chaos and goodness are also known as the "rebel" camp, the "carefree" camp, or the "cynic" camp. Chaotic and good characters support any change that makes the world a better place, and despise a bureaucracy that hinders social progress. Not only do they value their own freedom, but they also value the freedom of others. He believed in goodness and justice, but he did not obey the law and rules, and they hated coercion and inciting others. They always want to do good, but their theories and actions are often not accepted by the world. Bronze dragons, unicorns, most elves, and some elves are creatures of the chaotic good faction.
Chaotic and good-natured people often create conflict within their teams because they feel commanded and prefer to improvise rather than plan their actions. The characters of the chaotic good camp don't mind punishing those they deem evil with vicious means, and even if they don't like it, they don't have malicious intent in their own right. The mage Ilminster is also a typical chaotic and good character.
The advantage of chaotic kindness is that it can combine kindness and freedom.
Robin Hood, Malcolm Reynolds in The Fireflies, and Carla Eddie in Battlestar Galactica. Captain Starbar" Triss is considered a representative of chaotic goodness.
Orderly and neutral
Orderly neutrality is also known as the "judge" camp or the "discipliner" camp. The typical order-neutral person acts in the belief in glory, precepts, tradition, or personal creed, obeys orders and organizations, and always acts according to his own principles, unswayed by the pleas of men or the temptations of evil. A law-neutral society often enforces strict laws to maintain social order, while tradition and precedent are of paramount importance. Soldiers who obey orders, selfless enforcers, and monks who are disciplined are all part of the camp of order neutrality.
Order-neutral is neutral to good and evil, but that doesn't mean they're immoral, morally nihilist, or don't have a moral stance. They simply forever subordinate morality to obedience to creeds, traditions, or laws. They usually have a strong ethical creed, but this belief is based first and foremost on their belief system, not on the identification of good and evil.
The advantage of choosing to be orderly and neutral is that you don't have to be called a blind fanatic while winning people's trust and respect.
James Bond, Odysseus, and Tsubaki Sanchiro in "The Dead Redemption (Heart Stick)" are all considered to be the quintessential neutral characters.
Absolute neutrality
Absolute neutrality, also known as complete neutrality and neutrality, is called the "no-stand" camp or the "neutral" camp. They have no particular preference for good or evil, order or chaos. A farmer who only cares about feeding his family is absolutely neutral, as are most animals that are unable to make moral judgments, cunning characters who are delicate and ingratiating at every turn, and halflings (or hobbits) who love rural life are also absolutely neutral. Most absolute neutrals lack faith, not faith neutrality.
But there are also those who are absolutely neutral, not without a position, but voluntarily maintain a balance between the various camps. They will feel that good and evil, orderly and chaotic, are pure prejudices and dangerous extremes. Sadivo the Ruby Dragon belongs to this camp, and although he is the master of the Jewel Dragon, he is not really much different from his kind, and he does not try to lead them in the direction. Duncan of the Greyhawk world takes this proposition to the extreme, and he throws himself into the golden mean to ensure that no faction or any force can control Franis.
Druids have always followed the balanced belief of absolute neutrality, and even stipulate in the advanced rules of Dungeons & Dragons that druids must belong to this camp. In the second edition of the Player's Handbook
Hnadbook) gives an example: a typical druid may be involved in a crusade against the gnolls, but will turn to the gnolls when they are about to be wiped out.
The advantage of choosing absolute neutrality is that you can make your choice naturally and without being influenced by prejudice or compulsion.
Lara Crawford in Tomb Raider, Lucy Westenra in Dracula, and Han Solo, a smuggler in the early days of Star Wars, all show signs of absolute neutrality.
Chaotic neutrality
Chaotic neutrality, also known as the "anarchist" or "freeman" camp. Chaotic and neutral characters only listen to their own hearts, ignoring a single qiē law and tradition. But they don't deliberately destroy the organization because they are not driven by good (e.g., liberating others) or evil (e.g., torturing others). As much as they revere freedom, their own freedom is paramount. Good and evil always come after their need for their own freedom. The only thing they can be sure of is that they can't be convinced at all. But this does not mean that chaotic neutrals are irrational, they are unlikely to jump off the bridge for no reason when they cross the bridge, they have their own logic.
Chaotic neutral characters don't care about other people's feelings, but they don't take pleasure in torturing others either. They will join a team simply because the team's goals are aligned with their own. They hate being commanded and can be very selfish in the process of self-fulfillment. Chaotic neutrals are not necessarily without a goal, but the way they do it is often chaotic, heretical, or completely unpredictable. Most of the orcs, half-elves, barbarians, and many bards and thieves belong to the chaotic neutral camp.
The chaotic neutral faction has a less common subset, "Intense Chaotic Neutral", where characters are so confused that they look like crazy people. They will often change their behavior and attitudes in order to change, and will disrupt the organization for the sake of their own ideas that destroy the structure of order. Characters in this subset include Mayhem in Xenomorphic landscapes and Hennet in the third edition of the Player's Handbook.
The advantage of chaotic neutrality is that it can be liberated from social constraints and moral constraints, and can be truly free.
Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, Al Sworth in the TV series Rotten Wood, and Prisken in the New York Escape are all listed as representatives of the chaotic neutral camp in the CompleteScoundrel dossier.
Order and evil
Order Evil, also known as the "Dominator" camp or the "Demon Worshippers" camp. The figures of this camp see a good organizational system as a convenient tool, a group that is cohesive by **, and who shows the negative characteristics of the collective through the guò organization. They are happy to keep their promises and obey orders, but they don't care about the rights and freedoms of others, and they don't mind perverting rules and regulations to satisfy their own tastes. Some of the orderly, wicked characters have certain taboos, such as not killing (but commanding their subordinates to do it) or not harming children (if they are useful), which they consider to be "better" than lawless wickedness. Blue Dragons, Eye Demons, Ogre Wizards, and Goblins are all creatures of the Orderly Evil faction, while tyrants, faithless and well-organized mercenaries, and soldiers who are loyal to orders and willing to kill are all part of the Lawful Evil faction.
There are order-wise and evil characters who see evil as a belief, just as order-good characters believe in goodness. In addition to harming others for their own ends, they also take pleasure in spreading evil. They may also serve evil gods or masters, seeing evil deeds as part of their work. Demons are typically orderly, evil creatures, which is where the nickname "Diabolic" comes from.
Like the orderly-good paladins, some order-minded and evil characters sometimes face the dilemma of obeying orders and performing evil. It's just that they are confused by the two questions of "will I be punished for disobeying orders?" and "How much good can I get from this?"
The terrible thing about orderly evil is that it is a systematic and systematic act of evil, so it is often successful.
Bounty hunter Boba Fett in Star Wars and Magneto in X-Men are both considered to be on the side of the evil of order.
Neutral evil
Neutral evil, also known as the "offender" camp. The characters of this camp show the most typical selfishness, and can betray their temporary allies without hesitation. They don't create extra unnecessary killing and destruction, but they can kill people without hesitation if they do it for any of their own purposes, such as for money, convenience, or even entertainment. They can follow the rules and regulations if it is profitable, but he will not hesitate to break discipline once it gets in the way of his purpose. In general, neutral and evil characters can do anything for themselves, and do everything for themselves.
Wraiths, Prisoners, and most of the Dark Elves, Goblins, Itrites, and Kobolds are among the neutral evil factions. Killers who have a little respect for the rules and don't kill innocents indiscriminately, followers who have other conspiracies behind the backs of their superiors, and mercenaries who defect for better commissions all belong to this camp.
The terrible thing about neutral evil is that it is completely evil, and there is no sense of honor and difference at all. The villains of this camp can be more dangerous than the order-wicked or chaotic evildoers, because they are neither bound by any honor or tradition, nor hindered by chaos or murder.
In the CompleteScoundrel universe, it is believed that the Witch in X-Men and the early Sawyer in the TV series Lost belong to the neutral evil camp.
Chaos and evil
Chaos and evil, also known as the "destroyer" camp or the "demon incarnation" camp. The characters in this camp don't care about the rules, order, the lives and freedom of others, they only care about their own extreme selfishness and cruelty. They will do anything impulsive for their greed, anger, or desire for destruction, but they will do even more horrible things in order to enjoy chaos and fear. They value their own freedom and have no regard for the lives and freedoms of others. They will only cooperate when they are forced to do so, and their superiors may face the danger of rebellion and assassination. They refuse to obey orders and only restrain themselves when they are afraid of being punished.
Figures in this camp enjoy the pain of others and see honor and self-discipline as weaknesses. But the characters of the chaotic evil camp are not responsible for the occasional abuse of others to show evil, or to disobey orders from time to time to show chaos. Warlocks who carry out crazy plans for revenge or destruction, serial killers who like to create a terrifying atmosphere, red dragons, vampires, gnolls, most orcs, ogres, and other monsters with limited intelligence all belong to this camp. Demons are typical creatures of the Chaos and Evil faction, which is also the origin of this faction's nickname, the "Demon Incarnate".
The terrible thing about chaos and evil is that it destroys not only beauty and life, but also the order that sustains beauty and life.
Carl Danhan in King Kong and Richard Reddy in Star Legends are both considered to belong to the chaotic evil camp.
[Characteristics of the behavior of characters in each camp]
=======================================================
Orderliness and kindness
LawfulGood
A character who is orderly and kind will go to great lengths to fight evil. He told the truth, kept his promises, and held grievances. This group of people is jealous and hateful, values honor, and emphasizes mercy. Fighting evil mercilessly, and protecting good without hesitation, such a paladin is in the camp of good and orderly.
The behavior characteristics of this type of character are as follows:
Always keep your word.
Never lie.
Never attack, injure, or kill an enemy who is no longer able to resist.
Never hurt the innocent.
Never torture others for any reason, nor are they allowed to be tortured for any reason.
Always help others.
Always law-abiding.
Respect honor, discipline, authority, and order.
Have a strong team spirit.
Never corrupt the law.
Never betray a friend for any reason.
=======================================================
Neutrality and kindness
NeutralGood
A neutral and kind character will try his best to be a good person. He is committed to helping others. He would work for the king or his ministers, but he would not feel that he had received a favor from them. Pastors who help others according to their own principles are neutral and good. Neutral goodness means that they are neither obedient nor opposed to order.
This type of character believes that the balance of power is important, and that order and chaos should be balanced in the need for good. The world is big enough to accommodate a single creature to fight for its own ideals, and it is precisely because of this pursuit that the balance is maintained. If goodness needs to be supported by an organized society, then build it, and if goodness needs to overthrow the existing social system to achieve it, then subvert it. For them, the social structure is not a priori. A neutral and good baron would rebel against the king's orders in order to destroy what he considered evil.
The behavior characteristics of this type of character are as follows:
Always keep your word.
It is unlikely to lie, except against an evil man.
Never attack or kill an enemy who is no longer able to resist.
Never hurt the innocent.
Torture is never done for any reason, and torture is unlikely to be allowed for any reason.
Never kill for fun.
Always try to help others.
Have a strong team spirit.
Never corrupt the law.
Never betray a friend.
=======================================================
Chaos is kind
ChaoticGood
Chaotic and good people act in good conscience without regard for the demands of others. He believed in God and justice, but ignored the laws and regulations. He follows his own moral guidelines and, despite his pursuit of goodness, is anti-social. A ranger who robs the rich and gives to the poor, who robs the tax collectors of the evil baron, and who protects ordinary farmers, he is in the camp of chaos and goodness. Chaos and good people are a combination of a good heart and a free spirit.
Chaotic and kind people have strong personalities, but they are kind and loving. They don't tell others what to do, and they don't try to force others to do something. A brave pioneer who followed in his footsteps is the quintessential chaotic good camp.
The behavior characteristics of this type of character are as follows:
Keep your promises to good people (unless there is a conflict with his plans to fight evil, or if you will do harm to good people because of keeping your promises).
Lie only to neutral or evil people.
Never attack or kill an enemy who is powerless to resist, unless they are truly the most heinous.
Never harm the innocent, except as a last resort.
Torture is never done for fun, but threats can be made, and torture for the sake of information is allowed.
Never kill for fun (though destroying evil is fun for them).
Always trying to help others.
Do not trust authority. Distrustsauthority.
There is team spirit, but I don't like rigid rules and official articles.
Never take bribes unless it is a ploy or for good deeds.
Never betray a friend unless the friend maliciously betrays him.
=======================================================
Orderly and neutral
LawfulNeutral
The order-neutral character acts according to tradition or the laws of his own mind, believes in order, and loves a strong and organized government. A strictly disciplined warrior monk who does not waver in danger and will not be tempted by evil is a person who is orderly and neutral. Order-neutral means that he is trustworthy, respectable, but not fanatically morally motivated.
Order and organization are what this group of people value. They believe in a strong, orderly government, regardless of whether it is ruled by dictatorship or open democracy. For them, being organized and efficient is more important than ethical issues. A prosecutor who insists that a rebel cannot be found, a soldier who never questions the orders of his superiors, they are all good examples of formal-neutral people.
The behavior characteristics of this type of character are as follows:
Keep your word for honor.
Lie or deceive only when you need it most.
Never attack or damage an enemy who is no longer able to resist.
Never hurt the innocent.
No interrogation unless absolutely necessary. (Never tortured for fun.) )
Never kill for fun.
Always help others in times of crisis.
Works well in a team, especially when it suits his needs.
It is quite possible to accept bribes.
Never betray a friend.
I care a lot about life and personal freedom.
=======================================================
Absolute neutrality
Neutral
This kind of people are between good and evil, they have their own opinions, they are indifferent to either side, and they are neutral.
A neutral character will not have a clear choice between good and evil or disorder. He will think that good is better than evil - after all, he would rather choose a good neighbor than an evil neighbor - but he will not take it upon himself to support good and eliminate evil. A mage who abhors moral arguments and devotes himself to his art is a neutral person. Some neutral characters are philosophically neutral, and they see good, evil, order, and chaos as dangerous heresies, and ultimately everything is balanced. Neutrality means that they go with the flow, without prejudice or compulsion.
Neutral characters sometimes find themselves having to upset the balance. At this point, they will change their stance and help the loser. A neutral druid will join the local barons to destroy the evil ogre horde, but when the ogre is cornered, he will suddenly give up, or even help the ogre. He will look for ways to prevent either side from becoming too powerful. Obviously, there are very few people in this world who are absolutely neutral.
=======================================================
Chaotic neutrality
ChaoticNeutral
Chaotic neutral characters believe that everything is irregular, including their own behavior. They are easily impulsive, they make decisions on their own pleasure, and they don't care about good or evil. This kind of person is difficult to get along with. Such people only need to be happy with themselves, and they treat everything they do as a gamble. All of them are unreliable. In fact, it is not only the one thing that cannot be relied upon for one thing, but also the one who cannot be trusted for anything. Madmen and lunatics tend to act in a chaotic neutral manner.
The behavior characteristics of this type of character are as follows:
may keep their word.
He lies and deceives when he feels the need.
It will not kill enemies who are no longer able to resist, but will beat them severely.
Innocent people will not be killed, but they will be harmed or kidnapped.
They will be tortured for the sake of extracting information, but they will not be tortured for fun.
It is rare to kill for fun. Seldomkillsforpleasure.
I don't help others for no reason. (Even if it's just for show-off!)
Not very respectful of authority.
Not a team player – only do what you like, regardless of whether or not you will violate orders.
He often takes bribes.
Unlikely to betray a friend.
=======================================================
Order and evil
LawfulEvil
Such characters believe that they can use society and its order to their advantage. They have in their minds a clear conceptual division between master and slave. In general, law-abiding and evil people will support laws and societies that protect their own interests. It would be terrible for a law that benefits the wicked to cause others to suffer because of it. The wicked obey the law out of fear of punishment. Because they will be forced to obey the oaths and covenants they have made, the wicked will not usually make promises lightly. Once the covenant is made, they obey the laws of society unless they can find a legal way to break the oath. There are often people who suffer because of such people. Such people speak cautiously and will regret if they are given the right reasons. An iron-fisted tyrant and a cunning, greedy businessman are examples of law-abiding and wicked people.
The behavior characteristics of this type of character are as follows:
Always keep your word for honor.
Will lie or deceive people who don't deserve their respect.
It may or may not kill an enemy who is no longer able to resist.
Never kill innocent people but will hurt, annoy or kidnap them.
He never tortures for fun, but he does torture for the sake of extracting information.
Never kill for pleasure – there's always a reason to kill.
May or may not help someone in need.
Respect for honor and self-discipline. Contempt for the law.
Will cooperate with others in order to achieve their own ends.
Will be corrupt and take bribes.
Never betray a friend.
=======================================================
Neutral evil
NeutralEvil
Neutral evil characters only care about their own development. They don't particularly object to anything unless it gets in the way of their actions. Their only concern is how to move forward. If there is an easy and quick way to get benefits, then they will take advantage of it, whether it is legal or not. Although neutral evil characters do not believe that "man does not perish for his own sake", they do not feel guilty for betraying their friends and companions for personal gain. They are loyal to power and money, which makes it easy for them to accept bribes. An unscrupulous mercenary, an ordinary thief, an informer who betrays the people to the authorities in order to protect himself, these are typical neutral evil characters.
The behavior characteristics of this type of character are as follows:
There is no need to keep your promises.
Lie and deceive anytime and anywhere.
Will happily kill enemies who are no longer able to resist.
will harm and exploit innocent people, and kill them if necessary.
Torture for the sake of intelligence (and enjoy!Torture for fun).
Will kill purely for fun.
If there is no real reward, there will be no reason to help others.
Cooperate with others if it helps to achieve their own goals.
He will not hesitate to embezzle and take bribes.
He betrays his friends whenever he needs to.
Disrespect for other people's lives.
=======================================================
Chaos and evil
ChaoticEvil
These people are a scourge of a kind and organized person. Chaotic evil characters live only for their own good or for their own personal ends. They have no mercy and act unscrupulously. They see the law and the government as tools used by the weak to care for the weak. The strong have the right to grab what they want, while the weak deserve to be exploited. When the chaotic and evil are united, it is not out of a desire to cooperate, but against a more powerful enemy. For such a group to work together, there must be a strong leader who keeps his subordinates compliant with a high-pressure policy. Since leadership is based on authority over subordinates, such a leader is likely to be replaced, and once the leader shows signs of weakness, his position is in jeopardy. Bloodthirsty pirates and mentally retarded monsters are prime examples of Chaos evil characters.
The behavior characteristics of this type of character are as follows:
Hardly keeping promises. There is no shame.
Lie and deceive to anyone.
Attacking and killing enemies who were no longer able to resist were commonplace for them. (It's the happiest thing for them!)
Do not hesitate to harm or kill innocent people. (Or just for fun.) )
Torture for the sake of intelligence and fun.
Killing purely for fun.
Help others only on a whim.
Despise honor, authority, and self-discipline. Take these as signs of weakness.
There is no team spirit. Constant competition for power and dominance.
Always embezzlement and bribery.
Will betray friends. After all, friends can always find another one.
It is mainly the characters of the other evil factions who are united.
