Chapter 64: The Green Screen

Zhang Ran only slept for three and a half hours, but he slept very sweetly, and even the best sleep he had in a month.

After washing up, Zhang Ran came to the playground and urged the students to do their morning exercises.

It is said that the management of the class has entered the right track, and the morning work can be handed over to the two squad leaders. However, Zhang Ran always felt that as a teacher, he should play an exemplary role, if the teacher is lying in bed and can't get up, how can the students get up early.

After staring at the morning gong for half an hour, Zhang Ran gave an explanation to Li Xinyue, came to the canteen to buy two steamed buns, and walked towards Qingying Studio.

The others hadn't arrived yet, but Zhang Jingchu was already waiting at the door of the studio.

This girl is so interesting, she is really the first one to come today!

Zhang Ran walked over, looked at Zhang Jingchu, and asked, "Jingchu, you came too early." There's no play for you in the morning, so it's not so early, have you had breakfast?"

Zhang Jingchu shook her head with a smile: "I'm not hungry, I haven't seen green screen shooting, I want to come and see it soon." ”

That's not eating!

Zhang Ran bit the bun, took out his meal card, and slapped it on Zhang Jingchu's hand: "This is the meal card, go to our school cafeteria to eat, our school is okay early, I have a treat today!"

Zhang Jingchu hurriedly waved her hand: "No, no!"

Zhang Ran said: "When I was in college, our teacher told us that there is an iron rule for making movies, what the director wants, give the director. The director said jump off the building, you can't say why the director jumped off the building? You can only ask, which floor does the director want me to jump from? Now that Director Zhang Da has asked you to go to breakfast, what do you think you should say?"

Zhang Jingchu smiled and said, "Director, what should I eat?"

Zhang Ran laughed and said, "That's right, you can eat whatever you want, go ahead!"

"Thank you, director, then I'll go to dinner!"

"Go, go, I'm rare and generous to invite back guests, don't save money for that!" Zhang Ran waved his hand and continued to bite the bun in his hand.

In fact, there is another sentence after Mr. Zhang Ran's words, he is not embarrassed to say, the director asks me to take off my clothes, you can only ask, which one does the director want me to take off?

After a few minutes, Zhang Jingchu returned to the studio with a bag of milk and a piece of cake. She thanked her and returned the meal card to Zhang Ran.

The crew came to the scene one after another, and the quiet studio gradually became lively.

Today, I mainly filmed the scene of the elderly Cai Yan driving a flying car to save Cao Lin. This part of the scene is quite simple for the actors, there are almost no lines, just sit in the car model and do the corresponding actions.

Because the actor is sitting in the car and performing, and the car is not moving, there is no need to move. The art team will directly start to set up the green screen, and Zhang Ran will convene the photography team and special effects team to discuss the issues related to green screen shooting.

The green screen used for filming was quickly erected, and a large green cloth 4 meters high and 8 meters long was stretched evenly. The green cloth used for shooting must be flattened and there must be no wrinkles, which mean shadows, which will not be clean when cutting out the picture in post, leaving black blocks.

Immediately afterwards, the green model of the car was pushed out, and the corners and outlines of the car were covered with black tape, mainly to capture the outline and movement of the car, so that it could be easily combined with the 3D model. When motion capture is performed in movies such as "Rise of the Planet of the Apes", there will be many small black spots on the actors' faces, and there will also be many small black spots on the special jumpsuits they wear, which is similar to the effect of the black tape that Zhang Ran pasted. Of course, people's technology is much more advanced than Zhang Ran's.

In fact, before Zhang Ran's rebirth, green screen shooting was already a big commodity in China, and it was very commonly used in domestic movies and TV series.

However, in 2001, green screens were still high-tech for domestic films. The first time that domestic films applied green screen technology on a large scale was in 2004. As for which movie it is, many people may not think of it, it is Feng Xiaogang's "No Thieves in the World".

Most of the stories of "No Thieves in the World" take place on the train, and the shooting period of such a blockbuster takes at least three months. "No Thieves in the World" is a commercial blockbuster, which has extremely high requirements for photography and lighting, and it is difficult to achieve these live-action shots. There is only one way in front of Feng Xiaogang, which is to shoot through a green screen and then perform computer synthesis.

In the end, "There Are No Thieves in the World" rented an 8,000-square-meter studio in Xiaotangshan, Beiping, and built a "out of nothing" train in the studio. The train is about 40 meters long, and is divided into 4 carriages: soft sleeper, hard sleeper, dining car, and hard seat, and most of the scenes of "No Thieves in the World" are completed in these 4 carriages. After filming, the film is entered into the computer, the green background is removed, and then the real scene shot in Gan 1 Su is replaced, and the film becomes the last thing the audience sees.

The most difficult thing about the green screen is the lighting, first of all, the green screen must be brightened with light, the light must be uniform, the brightness must be appropriate, otherwise the later cutout will not be clean; at the same time, it is necessary to simulate the natural environment for the actor to light, the light on the actor must be consistent with the background that will be replaced in the future, the direction of the light must be consistent, and the brightness must be consistent, otherwise it will look uncoordinated.

Take "No Thieves in the World" as an example, before Andy Lau and Ge You fought the battle, they kissed Liu Ruoying on the top of the train, and the main light source of the green screen in this scene was on the upper right. If the green screen is cut off in the later stage and replaced with a natural background, if the sun is on the left, it will be uncoordinated, and it will be a goof. Therefore, before shooting on a green screen, it is necessary to choose the background, determine the position of the light source, and simulate the light source according to the position of the light source.

While the gaffer and photographer were setting up the lighting, Zhang Ran gave Cui Xinqin a brief lecture. However, the scene itself is relatively simple, there is not much to say, and what should be said is quickly finished.

At this time, there was a commotion at the door, and then a field worker ran over: "Director Zhang, the students in your class are here!"

Today's green screen shooting, Zhang Ran plans to let the students see what green screen shooting is all about, so that they can better understand the meaning of some of the training they usually do, and nodded: "Let them in!"

With the sound of chattering, Li Xinyue and Zhou Zheng walked over with the students in the class. Li Xinyue and Zhou Zheng smiled and nodded at Zhang Ran, while the students in the class hula surrounded Zhang Ran in the middle, and said non-stop curiously.

"Teacher Zhang, that's a green screen? It's a green cloth!"

"Mr. Zhang, is that a car? Why did you make it look like that? It looks so ugly!"

"That's how Hollywood movies are made?"

Zhang Ran's ears were buzzing with noise, his head was about to explode, and he said loudly with a straight face: "What's the noise, this is the shooting scene, not the vegetable market, give me a quiet place!"

After the students quieted down, Zhang Ran continued: "I asked you to come here today to show you what the green screen shooting is all about, you all stay obediently, you are not allowed to talk casually, let alone make trouble!

Soon, the preparations of various departments were done, and Cui Xinqin also sat in the green car model, holding the steering wheel with both hands, and the preparations for shooting were ready.

Zhang Ran picked up the walkie-talkie and began to issue the password: "Let's shoot officially, and each group prepares!"

"Power on!"

"Let's go!"

Cui Xinqin in the car model held the steering wheel with both hands, frowned slightly, and looked preoccupied. Forty years have passed, Cai Yan has not forgotten that incident, which is not only related to Cao Lin's life and death, but also related to the life and death of a carload of children, she can't sit idly by, but she is not sure to change everything that will happen. Cao Lin saved the little girl many times before succeeding, and she only had one chance, once she missed it, it was impossible to come again. She really wasn't sure at all and was very worried.

"Stop!" Zhang Ran shouted. He was quite satisfied with Cui Xinqin's performance, worthy of being the teacher of Nortel's star class, and the performance was really speechless.

Ning Hao nodded at Zhang Ran after confirming the sound and photography questions.

Zhang Ran announced loudly: "This shot has passed, and the next shot is ready!"

The camera quickly moves to the next position.

The next few shots are still the driving shots, but the angles are different, shooting from the side, from the back, and from the front. The shots are very simple, and the shooting is not always smooth, all in one pass.

One of the most difficult shots in the whole film is the shot of Cai Yan landing from the air in a car and parking in the hotel parking lot. This shot can't be shot on the ground, you have to really let the car fall from the air, so that you can make the effect of the car flying over and landing from the air in the later stage.

Zhang Ran's idea was to mount the model car on a gimbal with a large rocker arm, the actor sat in the model, and then the operator propped the model car into the air, and then slowly descended from the air to the ground.

At this moment, the crew pushed a large rocker arm to the shooting site, which looked a bit like the boom of a crane, and then the crew lifted the car model onto the rocker arm and began to install and fix it.

In between the installation of the model, Zhang Ran called the students in the class to a nearby open space. He looked at the students and said solemnly, "What is the matter with green screen shooting, right? This technology is very widely used in the United States, and it is used in TV dramas." We still have relatively few in China, but with the development of film technology, there will be more and more in China. In the future, your acting will often be like this, there is no real scene, it is just a big green cloth, and even your opponent is fake, but you still have to show the most real feeling and perform the trick. By now you should understand that the training we've been doing these days isn't meaningless, right?"

The students in the class are all nodding, these days Zhang Ran has been asking everyone to do simple non-physical action exercises, nailing buttons, opening doors, washing clothes, etc., dozens of times and dozens of times of practice, quite boring. They didn't understand it at first, but now they understand the meaning.

(Something is happening today, it's later.) Thank you Ma Yeliang for rewarding, asking for collection, asking for recommendation!)
