Chapter 161: The Problem of the Cotton Picker

The development and testing of the cotton picker of the machinery company is proceeding step by step, and the two small cotton pickers have been improved twice, and the designed functions can be basically realized, and the practicality is being verified in the cotton fields this season. More than 10 prototypes have been produced for both machines, four of each of which are tested on the durability test bench, and the rest of the machines, except for one for comparison, are put into the cotton picking test.

In the cotton picking test, the prototype was handed over to the experimental field workers from ordinary cotton farmers to operate, so as to facilitate the inspection of problems in the design of the machine. In the experiment, a variety of problems were raised, some were thought of at the beginning of the design, difficult to solve under the premise of low cost, while others had room for improvement, these requirements were summarized, and finally the product was modified to make the product more suitable for the requirements of cotton farmers.

The test began in September, and now it has entered November, and the last improvement of the machine has basically completed the design, and the production of the finalized prototype and process development have begun.

This year, the machinery company planted a total of four experimental fields, which are located in Shuanghe, Jingdong, Shihezi, Hunan Province and Hainan, the classic cotton-producing areas of Xinjiang Province.

The first experimental field open for testing is the first batch of cotton in Shuanghe, with cotton spit from the beginning of September, and the last experimental field in Hainan, where the harvest period is expected to be extended beyond the Spring Festival. The cotton picking test time is as long as half a year, which provides the greatest convenience for the development of the machine.

On the basis of the planting experience of this year's experimental field, the experimental field and the experts of the Agricultural University jointly proposed that the time control of cotton planting next year can be further extended, and it is estimated that the test time can be extended by about a month, but the planting cost of these specially planted cotton will increase a lot, and the yield and quality of cotton will be affected.

For this problem, Tian Chuan and the R&D center have the same opinion: even if the cost is appropriately increased and the cost is lost, it is necessary to ensure the smooth progress of the development of the cotton picker, and if the number of test fields is insufficient, it can also be considered to further expand the planting area, and in any case, the continuity of the cotton picking test must be ensured, and the machine cannot be allowed to wait for cotton.

Different from the smooth development of small cotton pickers, the development of large cotton pickers has encountered many difficulties.

First of all, in the development process of the cotton picking head, the durability of the cotton picking finger and the cotton removal disc manufactured is not satisfactory, especially the cotton picking finger, which can only be used for dozens of hours, and the problem of broken finger will occur, which can not meet the high-strength production requirements of the cotton picker. Every time you change the picking finger, it takes a few hours. The cotton removal disc is a rubber product, and the wear and tear in use is too serious, and the cotton removal effect has also decreased significantly with the extension of working time. Another problem is that the washing mechanism is unreliable, and the cleaning and cooling of the cotton picking finger are not done thoroughly, and even caused the cotton picking head to catch fire twice. Such a quality is not impossible to meet the requirements of the installation.

In response to these problems, the R&D center held continuous meetings to discuss and tried a variety of methods, but they were unable to completely solve these three problems. With these problems, the enthusiasm of the R&D center was poured with cold water, and everyone was a little lacking in confidence.

In addition, many problems have also been encountered in chassis design, control system design, etc., and the overall progress of cotton picker development has begun to be affected.

After receiving the report, Tagawa went to the R&D center, gathered the various teams, and held a meeting for everyone. At the meeting, Tagawa proposed several directions to solve the problem.

In view of the problem of cotton picking finger and the life of the cotton removal disc, Tian Chuan pointed out that we should walk on two legs, on the one hand, we should go to universities and professional material manufacturers, and invite experts to set up projects for the selection and improvement of materials. On the other hand, it is necessary to find a way to reduce the working intensity of wearing parts as much as possible in terms of structural design, so as to prolong their life.

In view of the problem of the washing mechanism, Tagawa asked that the working process of the washing mechanism be analyzed using high-speed cameras, and the key to the problem should be found and solved. At the same time, learn and master the working principle of leaching and the related theories of spraying from theory. For problems that are difficult to solve, we should consider them from a professional point of view, rather than taking them for granted.

He asked the R&D center to introduce the means of computer simulation analysis into the design, and through computer simulation analysis, the feasibility of the design can be predicted in an early manner, so as to shorten the design and test cycle and reduce the design cost. This is a method of simulating and analyzing products and components through finite element analysis, through which the analysis can be carried out on a computer, which saves a lot of time.

In addition, Tagawa also proposed more advanced design tools such as experimental design and FMEA, so that everyone can open up ideas and try to introduce the world's most advanced design methods, so as to solve the current difficulties.

At the end of the meeting, Tian Chuan said to everyone: "You are all professional and technical personnel, and I, the boss, can only give you some suggestions on the overall trend, and the specific problems must be solved by you in the end." I'm generally satisfied with your development work, and I'm also happy with your hard work day and night. I would like you to do the following in your development work:

The first is unity and cooperation, one person's ability is limited, we must twist everyone's ability into a rope, and rely on everyone's common strength to cooperate to solve problems.

The second is to leave professional things to professional people to do, each of us cannot be good at everything, and there are some things that we are more difficult to deal with, if we entrust professionals to do it, it may be very easy to solve.

Third, we have the courage to learn new knowledge, accept new knowledge, make use of new knowledge, introduce advanced working methods and new technologies, and transform advanced things into our productive forces.

That's what I expect from you, and I hope to hear the good news of your achievements in the next presentation. ”

After the meeting of all the technical personnel, Tian Chuan held a meeting with Gong Lihua and Wei Wenqiang and other senior leaders of the R&D center, at which he criticized the management: "The management team of our R&D center can be regarded as a relatively high configuration in the car, most of you have studied in senior colleges and universities in developed countries, and many people have worked in internationally renowned enterprises, why do you spend a salary much higher than the domestic average to introduce you into this team?" On the one hand, I value the advanced management experience that you have been exposed to, and more importantly, the advanced development theories and technologies that you have been exposed to, and I hope that you can apply the world's advanced knowledge to our development work. ”

"But until now, I haven't seen progress in our R&D staff in referencing advanced development techniques, which is a dereliction of duty. At the all-hands meeting, haven't you heard or come into contact with the simulation analysis, finite element analysis, experimental design, FMEA analysis, and so on? Or have you introduced other advanced design methods? Why do I see that our engineers are still using the drawing-prototyping-try-and-try method for development? I see that our engineers are using CAD for design, but the use of CAD is like an electronic drawing board, that is, the drawing board with a pen is just moved to the computer. What does CAD mean? It's computer-aided design, not computer-aided drawing. I would like to ask you, what is the purpose of a computer for each of our engineers? It is not only an electronic drawing board, nor is it just an electronic typewriter, but a brain, a computer, which helps human beings think, not helps human beings to be draftsmen. ”

"I would like to see some advanced design concepts and technologies applied in our company, otherwise the completion time of our cotton picker project will be far away, and I don't think you would like to see that. ”

"Specific to the cotton picker project, we all know that China's material level and processing level, are not up to the level of developed countries in the West, in John Deere's large cotton picker, the use of a lot of advanced materials and processing technology, we may not be able to reach their level in many aspects. If we blindly imitate them, then what we make will definitely not be able to surpass them, this is determined by the industrial base, and it is difficult to reverse it in a short time. To surpass them, or simply catch up with them, we need to redesign all aspects of the machine, innovate, build on our strengths, avoid our shortcomings, and discover and play to our strengths, so that we can achieve our desired goals. At this point, you managers need to think a little more. ”

"The last requirement is that you give confidence to our engineers, and I don't want to have another technical conference like today, with the theme of 'no way'. ”

At the end of the meeting, Tagawa affirmed everyone's hard work in the past six months, and at the same time told everyone to pay attention to rest and pay attention to their health. The specific requirements are summarized into three most important requirements, that is, it is forbidden to work continuously for a long time, and no one can spend more than 13 hours in the company in a row, and it is forbidden to occupy rest days consecutively, and no one can work more than 8 consecutive working days, and it is forbidden to work too much overtime, and no one can work more than 60 hours per week. The fundamental purpose of these requirements is to protect the health of workers and prevent accidents.

After making these requests, Tagawa was still not at ease, so he handed over the matter to the newly established human resources department of the investment company to manage, and asked the human resources department to supervise all the enterprises under his name to prevent the appearance of overwork.

Tagawa's attention to this matter is not unfounded. The companies under his name, the R&D center of the machinery company are all a group of workaholics, and the production department is busy working in black and white shifts. The otaku of the software company are even more exaggerated, and if no coercive measures are taken, someone may sleep next to the computer. Only the vegetable base and the distribution company are slightly better. Tagawa is really afraid that the company will cause an accident due to excessive fatigue, which is not only a matter of compensation, but also a lifetime of guilt.
