Juan Bei doesn't look like a scholar in appearance, he dresses very casually, but looks like a person in the rivers and lakes. At that time, I was still a little arrogant, a little bit judged by my appearance, and I was a little slow to talk about it. But Juan Bei was not unhappy at all, but even more humble, but after chatting, I was greatly surprised by his insight.

He has a deep knowledge of Chinese culture, and he is one of the best people I know, and he knows all about poetry, calligraphy, music and painting, history and folklore, not to mention some interesting anecdotes among cultural people, which are eloquent and fascinating. I couldn't help but wonder how such a scholar could come to me for advice.

Hu Anbei was frank, he told me that Peking Opera is art from the perspective of drama, it is culture from the perspective of history, it is thought from the perspective of philosophy, and it is a story from the perspective of folklore. In the creation of Peking Opera scripts, there are too many top literati, too many famous ministers and gentry, and too many worldly masters involved in the creation of Peking Opera scripts. It's a pity that in the past 100 years, the protection and excavation of it have not been enough, and less than one or two have been handed down.

In recent years, Peking Opera has become more and more unable to keep up with the changes of the times, and there are fewer and fewer people who like to listen to opera. For example, in the traditional drama "Hitting the Golden Branch", if you focus on the plot, then it is an ethical and moral drama, but if it is placed in the background of the story, it is a court political drama, but unfortunately, no one has thought of trying to play it from a different angle.

Traditional Peking Opera is too one-sided, too scripted, always with a century-old unchanged face to the audience, you sing together, old opera fans will know what your next sentence is, there is no new play, who wants to watch it for the longest?

The origin and maturity of traditional Peking Opera in the Qing Dynasty, which is closely related to the political and cultural environment at that time, in a sense, traditional Peking Opera is in line with the political needs of the time, Hu Anbei's vision is to explore more at the source, re-examine the traditional repertoire from a relatively objective perspective today, and use new techniques and expressions to make the traditional repertoire glow with a different charm. I completely agree with Juan Bei's idea, although I am not a fan of drama, but I am very familiar with the background stories of many dramas, especially the falsification of real history by the creators of that era. And what he is interested in is the dusty past hidden in the corners of history, and there are genealogical records of more than ten generations of the Chang family who have spared no effort and have been working all year round, which can make some useful supplements.

Once a few of us enter the small whirlpool of history, we quickly forget the passage of time. In the process of communication, I noticed that Juan Bei's voice was very low and hoarse, and unlike ordinary people, he would take the initiative to break sentences in some long sentences, and sometimes a sentence would even break three or four times, which seemed very incoherent. This phenomenon is by no means our common stuttering, stuttering is more of an unconscious behavior, the speaker does not know where it will be interrupted, and once it is interrupted, he will not be able to continue to spit out words due to psychological reasons. But Juan Bei is obviously conscious and actively breaking sentences.

Juan Bei has practiced since he was a child, and his pronunciation is the foundation, it stands to reason that this situation is impossible at all, if this is habitual, then it is impossible for him to perform on stage, let alone become a famous actor.

I couldn't hide something in my heart, so I asked this question by changing tea for Hu Anbei and Peng Yushu and temporarily stopping the topic.

Juan Bei was obviously unprepared for my sudden question, stunned for a moment, looked at the hot air slowly rising in the teacup in front of him, and for half a minute, he smiled bitterly and said: "Mr. Chang, I won't tell you, my throat had surgery a few years ago, and I couldn't even speak in the first two years, but it's better in the past two years, and I'm also practicing hard, but whether I can perform on stage again depends on God's will." ”
