Chapter 13 Buying a Boat
The clanging of knocks, the indescribable smell in the air, the shouting of the laborers could be heard in the distance, and truckloads of logs were sent deep into the shipyard, where they would become sturdy hulls in the near future.
Passing through a large, rusty iron gate, they were stopped by a guard sitting at the door of the cabin basking in the sun.
"Who are you looking for?" the guard asked lazily, in a rather respectful tone.
"We're here to buy boats, big sailboats. β
As soon as he heard that there was a big business, the guard immediately lifted his spirits and said with a smile on his face: "Please follow me!"
On the flat ground in the middle of the shipyard, there is a makeshift two-story building that is being renovated by a dozen laborers, which functions like an office today.
Led by the guards, they came to a small door, and could faintly hear the sound of conversation inside.
"Boss, someone wants to buy a big sailboat. The guard knocked at the door to report.
There was an answer from inside, and about five seconds later, a bloated middle-aged man opened the door with a fine pipe in the corner of his mouth.
The room was filled with smoke, and on the couch sat a balding man with parchment in his pocket.
Seeing someone coming, the bald man shook hands with the boss and said with a smile: "Then I'll go first, happy cooperation!"
"Happy cooperation!" The boss sent him to the door, and then smiled at Zheng Fei friendly: "Young man, do you want to buy a big ship and go to sea?"
"That's right. Zheng Fei smiled, sat on the sofa and poured himself a glass of sherry, looking at the quality of this wine, a bottle costs more than a dozen silver coins, and a man who doesn't want to take advantage is not a good businessman.
Pete and Santiago were very embarrassed, and stood obediently behind him, puffing out their chests like two competent bodyguards.
The boss was stingy, and when he saw Zheng Fei drinking his own wine, he couldn't help but feel pain, and wanted to hurry up and let him leave after the conversation.
So, he hurriedly sat down and said with a smile: "The quality of our ship is the best, so the price is not cheap, from five hundred silver coins to three thousand silver coins, which one do you want?"
After all, it was his first ocean-going sailing ship, of course Zheng Fei wanted three thousand, but now he only had more than one thousand nine hundred left in his pocket, which was far from enough.
He lowered his eyebrows and began to think.
At this time, the annoying door was knocked a few more times, only to hear the guard say, "Boss, Mr. Ross is outside, I want to see you." β
Hearing this, the boss shrugged his shoulders and said to Zheng Fei: "I'm sorry, I have to go and meet that guy first, he is a respected nobleman, you can think about it here, I'll come when I go." β
"Okay. Zheng Fei is taking time to think about it.
The boss walked to the door, suddenly turned around and picked up the bottle of sherry, and smiled awkwardly: "Hehe, that guy likes sherry the most." β
Seeing the boss go out and walk away, Pete snorted and said disdainfully: "Profiteer!"
"There is no treachery, no business? Zheng Fei replied, shaking the wine glass and drinking it all, without leaving a sip, causing the two "bodyguards" to stare at each other.
Pete began to rummage through the cupboards, and if he found something valuable, he picked it up and admired it, and quickly tucked it into his sleeve without anyone noticing.
Santiago, on the other hand, sat down opposite Zheng Fei silently, hesitated for a while, and finally said, "Man, how much did you sell that pile of shells?"
"Two thousand silver coins. β
"Two thousand?!" the strong man shouted, his rough voice startling Pete, who was stealing the medallion.
"Incredible, isn't it?" Zheng Fei smiled.
But the strong man didn't mean to be happy, but lowered his face and said, "I don't understand why we don't divide the money, so that each of us can get a few hundred silver coins, enough to buy a decent big house in Atlanta Town!"
Zheng Fei thought so, rubbed his hands and replied, "Your idea is great, so what about after buying a house?"
The strong man was stunned, thought for a few seconds, and said: "Continue to go to sea to catch shells, even if you catch them once a month, it is enough to squander, so that we can participate in the dance party of the upper class every night and soak the upper class girls, not to mention how cool it feels!"
"Do you want to be a fisherman for the rest of your life, Santiago?" Zheng Fei interrupted him as his eyebrows danced, and after a pause, the next sentence made the strong man stunned for a while.
"Comfort is the worst enemy of success, and if you revel in the life in front of you, you'll never get ahead!"
"Me"
"I also want to tell you that abalone is extremely rare, and it was pure luck that you were able to catch so much last time, and if you want to make a living from it, you may not catch anything. β
Santiago stopped talking.
He remembered that a few years ago, before he came to work as a laborer in the Atlanta docks, he had been a fierce Re Naya officer, and he was known for his decisiveness in the army. However, in one battle, his troops were scattered, and it took several times to get here.
He was reflecting, has the spirit of his original vigor been worn out after several years of working life?
No, Santiago is never willing to be ordinary!
"Man, I'll do it with you!" he said resolutely, his gaze determined.
Zheng Fei knew that his words had an effect, and said with a smile: "So strong man, now there is an important matter for you to do." β
"Just the command!"
"There's a cupboard behind you on the left with two bottles of red wine, you take them and get out of here now, sneak outside and wait!"
"Stealing wine?" the strong man's expression, quoting a trendy saying, looked confused.
"No, no, no, we are taking wine, and the price of one bottle of wine is worth two years of your income!"
Lafite, from the ChΓ’teau Lafite in France, although Lafite was not famous in the Middle Ages, but the mellow aroma of the wine is original.
Among all the world's famous wines, Zheng Fei longs for Lafite the most, because he can't afford to drink it, a bottle costs thousands of pounds, even as the captain of the St. Hurens, he can only have the opportunity to taste two sips at a high-end drinking party.
After seeing Santiago leave safely, Zheng Fei smiled shamefully, not knowing what kind of mood the miser boss would feel when he found out, in order to avoid this, he went out of the house and stood at the door.
The owner is back.
"Hey my guest, how are you thinking about it?" the boss raised his pipe.
"Can you take me to see the boat?" Zheng Fei was not nervous at all, even if he stole two bottles of Lafite.
"Of course, please follow me!"
The shipyard is close to the coast, and a dam several meters high is artificially built, and the boats are fixed to the dam and sent directly into the water by the guΓ² slide when the customer sees it.
At this time, there were dozens of boats on the dam, ranging in size, with sailboats and oarboats, and several with sailboats and oars.
For the first ship, Zheng Fei wanted the best configuration, even the sails had to be tarpaulin.
"This one is the cheapest, five hundred silver coins. The boss pointed to a beautiful sailboat and said, seeing that Zheng Fei didn't talk, he rolled his eyes and changed his words: "Seeing that you are a new customer, I can give you some discounts, four hundred and fifty." β
Zheng Fei was not interested at all, shook his head and said, "Let me see the three thousand!"
