Myeongdong Catholic Church is the earliest local church in Korea and the symbol of the Korean Catholic Church. As the country's oldest brick church, Myeongdong Catholic Church has a Latin cross with a three-beam plan, a 23-meter-high sanctuary and a 45-meter-high bell tower, which is a typical Gothic building.

The faith community formed here began with the Ming Lifang religious congregation in 1784. Then, in 1894, Father Coste began to design the church. In 1945, on the occasion of Liberation Day, the name of the Great Church was changed from "Chung Hyeon Grand Church" to "Myeongdong Cathedral". In the turbulent years of modern history in the seventies and eighties of the 20th century, it has always played a role in promoting the promotion of human rights and the transformation of Korean society into a holy place.

Due to the special status and symbolism of Myeongdong Cathedral in Korea, every year on Christmas Eve, many devout believers gather at Myeongdong Cathedral to celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus Christopher.

Christmas Eve Mass is generally divided into two times, one is held at 9~10 o'clock in the evening, and the other is the big Mass at midnight, which generally starts at 11:30 o'clock, which is the high tide of Christmas Eve. The Midnight Mass ends at midnight, just as Christmas begins, often accompanied by church bells that ring forgiveness, blessings, joy and happiness to the world.
