Chapter Eighty-Six: Lupin's Memories
. Lupin pushed the door of the passage aside with all his might, sending up a lot of dust.
He quickly climbed out of the secret passage and into a house, a messy, dusty house. The wallpaper had fallen off the walls, the floors were stained everywhere, the pieces of furniture were broken, as if they had been broken, and the windows were nailed with wooden boards.
This is the Screaming Shack, which Lupin and his friends have visited countless times, and since Blake has invaded the castle, it is very likely that he is hiding here.
Lupin sniffed the familiar smell in the air around him, and with his wand crossed to his chest, he cautiously walked through the dark aisle and climbed the crumbling staircase.
Like the first floor, everything on the second floor was covered in a thick layer of dust.
But that's not the case on the floor, something has recently passed by, a kind of canine claw mark.
Lupin glanced down, he was all too familiar with the footprint, the mark left by Sirius after Black's Animagus. Blake must have been here recently, and there's a good chance he's still hidden in the house now.
Lupin tightened his wand tightened in his hand, cautiously looking at the closed door at the end of the hallway. Blake may be hiding behind this door, ready to pounce at any moment. Although the other party did not have a magic wand, Lupin still did not dare to be careless.
He approached slowly, trying not to make a sound, the magic of his whole body secretly converging and condensing, and the tip of his wand glowed faintly.
"Come out, Sirius, I know you're in there!" Lupin shouted as he stood outside the door, his voice echoing through the empty room.
Nothing happened, there was a deathly silence inside the door.
Lupin squinted, and in the next second, his wand quickly emitted a thick red light, slamming the door out of the room.
In the room, there was only one luxurious four-poster bed, and the curtains around the bed were all dust. There was no one up there, just him standing alone in the doorway, panting.
Lupin put down his wand in a dejected manner, Blake wasn't here, maybe he was, but after knowing that he saw him tonight, he hid somewhere else.
"Despicable coward!" Lupin muttered quietly.
Blake's behavior did not match his impression of Sirius, he was not a man who could run away, he was the bravest of them all when he was a student, but when he fell to his knees and kissed Voldemort's robes, his old courage was probably gone.
Now Blake is no longer a heroic Gryffindor, but more of a sinister and cunning Slytherin, or so he is.
Lupin stood at the door of the room for a full minute, with an indescribable loneliness on his face.
He sighed deeply and turned to leave. But he immediately stopped, and he saw that something was left on the bed, it was a photograph.
Lupin walked over and picked up the photo.
The photo shows four boys, from left to right, their school self, James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew.
The four people in the photo are smiling so happily, they are all laughing and greeting Lupin.
Lupin was suddenly a little sad, he still remembered that this photo was taken on the lawn in front of the castle gate when they graduated, one for each of them, as a souvenir.
His own one had been given away by Hagrid the previous year when he was collecting pictures for Harry, and James's one had been lost in the ruins of the building the night he was attacked, and Peter's one was supposed to have been blown to pieces by Blake along with himself.
The only one left with this picture is Blake himself.
It's likely that he accidentally left it here when he left it at the Screaming Shack before, and he didn't expect Blake to keep the photo of it, and Lupin thought he had thrown it away along with his friendship.
Looking at the yellowed photograph, Lupin's mind went back to the time when they had just graduated, the darkest time in the wizarding world.
At that time, the dark wizards led by Voldemort were wreaking havoc in the wizarding world, openly resorting to violence, spreading terror, killing impure wizards and Muggles in the name of "fun", and even starting a wizarding war that overthrew the pattern of the wizarding world.
During that protracted war, Lupin witnessed the death of many people, including his elders, classmates, and many other good people.
The year they graduated, three years before the end of the war. They can't wait to join the Order of the Phoenix and stand on the front lines against Voldemort.
Although Voldemort and his Death Eaters possessed much more power than the Order of the Phoenix at the time.
But relying on the close cooperation of the four men, they have repeatedly stopped Voldemort's plots and escaped from his hands.
Lupin had expected it to last until he defeated Lord Voldemort.
But in the last year of the war, everything changed. Dumbledore got the news in advance that for some reason, Voldemort was hunting down Jaime and Lily's son, Harry. Jaime had intended to fight head-on, but for Harry's sake, they followed Dumbledore's advice and went into hiding, using the Loyalty Charm to protect themselves.
Aside from Dumbledore, himself and Peter Pettigrew were the only two who knew who James' secret was. Jaime chose Sirius Black, whom he had once considered his closest friend and the strongest of the man.
Lupin also once naively thought that this was the best option.
But he was wrong, they were all wrong!
Less than a week after Blake became Jaime and Lily's secret keeper, he betrayed them to Voldemort. Voldemort broke into their house that night, he killed them, but he didn't know why he failed with Harry!
After learning the news, Lupin remembered his reaction at the time, he frantically went to find Blake, he needed to ask the other party the truth, what must have gone wrong, why James and Lily died, why the Loyalty Charm was broken.
Until that time, he didn't believe that Blake would betray them to Voldemort.
Two days later, Lupin found Blake.
But he was a step too late, and Peter Pettigrew found the other party before he did.
When Lupin saw Black on that street, he was surrounded by the Aurors, who had blown Peter and the entire street of Muggles to pieces a minute earlier.
Everything is clear, it was Black who betrayed James and Lily to Voldemort, and in the ensuing questioning, he killed Peter Pettigrew.
Lupin stood helplessly on the corner of the street, where he saw Blake laughing maniacally while he himself cried silently in the corner, the only time he had shed tears since he had vowed as a child not to cry again.
