Chapter 667: Ford's Considerations
Ford, the company and the brand name "Ford" are derived from the surname of the founder, Henry Ford.
Founded in the early 20th century, Ford Motor Company has finally become one of the world's four major automobile group companies after a century of ups and downs with the dream and outstanding vision of its founder, Henry Ford, to "make cars that everyone can afford".
The current chairman, Bill Ford, has been on the board of directors since 1988 and was elected chairman of the board in September 1998 and assumed office on January 1, 1999.
He also chairs the Environment and Public Policy Committee of the Board of Directors and is a member of the Corporate Finance Committee.
On October 30, 2001, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Chairman.
In September 2006, Mr. Ford became chairman, which means that his CEO hat was forced to be transferred to someone else.
Why is that?
Because I didn't do a good job, I lost a mess.
Not to mention the previous few years, Ford has been going downhill, and last year alone, Ford lost $12.6 billion.
$12.6 billion, it's a loss of vomiting blood.
So Bill Ford was forced to cede his long-term tenure as CEO to Alan Mulally, who had worked for Boeing for 37 years.
But he's still the chairman.
Why?
Let's take a look at his work history first.
Bill Ford joined Ford Motor Company in 1979 as a Product Planning Analyst. He has held a series of positions within the company in the areas of production, sales, marketing, product development and financing.
After only ten years on the job, he made it to the board of directors.
Because he is the great-grandson of Henry Ford, the founder of the Ford Company.
Ford is a company controlled by the Ford family.
Some people, after a lifetime of struggle, can't catch up with the starting line of others.
However, as the subprime mortgage crisis intensified, U.S. car sales became more sluggish, and Ford also has financial companies.
Under the nest, will there be no eggs?
Naturally, Ford Financial Company is also a mess.
"Bill, the company that Celestial Empire has been negotiating with us to buy Jaguar Land Rover and transfer some of the engine production lines and technology, can we make some concessions?" said Alan Muraly to Bilford.
Prior to joining Ford Motor Company in September 2006, Murali served as Executive Vice President of Boeing and President and Chief Executive Officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, where he was responsible for all of Boeing's civil aircraft programs and aviation services businesses.
In addition, Murali served as a member of Boeing's Executive Committee and as a senior executive officer for Boeing's Pacific Northwest.
As soon as he joined the company, Alan Murali moved his family to the office, arrived at the company at 5:30 a.m. every morning, and started a 12-hour day.
After six days on the job, or 72 hours on the job, he announced that he was ready to sell Ford's luxury brands Jaguar, Aston Martin, Land Rover and Volvo.
And, less than half a year after announcing this decision, Aston Martin was really sold for more than $900 million.
Now Jaguar and Land Rover are also in talks with companies such as Korn Ferry and Tata Motors to sell them.
Ford, which has been established for more than 100 years, has begun to move in a new direction.
In order to let each employee know what he thinks, Murali made plastic cards of the company's goals and distributed them to each employee.
On one side of these cards are the four goals of expected behavior, and on the other side is the "One Ford" corporate strategy.
The One Ford program is a major part of Murali's efforts, and he wants all Ford models to be reduced from 97 in 2006 to 40 in 2013.
In fact, the concept of "one Ford" means that Ford should manufacture more models for the world on a few core platforms, and the spare parts should be universal, so as to improve the scale effect.
Speaking of which, Jiang Hui has to thank others for coming up with this concept, otherwise Ford would definitely not have decided to sell Jaguar Land Rover easily.
"You can just judge the day-to-day affairs of the company and submit it to the board of directors for approval before signing the contract," Bill Ford said as he took a sip of coffee.
It was rare for the two to have afternoon tea together in the café next to the company, and Bill Ford did not express his opinions at will.
As it turns out, Alan Muraly has already shown his housekeeping talent in less than a year after joining Ford.
So Bill Ford didn't want to interfere too much with the details of the sale of Jaguar Land Rover.
"I'm going to lower the price of the 2.0L and 3.0L engines first, because both engines are used by Jaguar Land Rover anyway, and since we are going to sell Jaguar Land Rover and sell some of the engine technology they are using to other companies, it can be considered waste."
Although Bill Ford said that he would not interfere with the details of the company's day-to-day operations, there were some things that Alan Murali wanted to talk to him.
Sometimes, it's one thing for the boss to listen to it or not, but it's another thing whether you say it or not.
"I remember that our new generation of EcoBoost engines is almost complete, right?
Bill Ford still approves of selling engine technology to Guanghui Automobile, after all, Ford Motors now needs cash flow too much.
Coupled with the current sluggish sales, some factories are already in a state of semi-shutdown.
It is also very good to take this opportunity to make use of the equipment.
"Yes, I also think so, coupled with the huge influence of the parent company of Guanghui Automobile in the Internet industry of the Celestial Empire, we also hope to deepen cooperation with them."
"Is the parent company of Korn Ferry very powerful?", Bill Ford is not very aware of the relevant situation because he was not specifically involved in the negotiations between Ford Motor and Korn Ferry Motors.
"It's very powerful, it's very powerful, if you want to say that there are people in the Celestial Empire that I admire, Jiang is the founder of their company. In the Celestial Empire, the largest microblogging, the largest video website, the largest SNS website, the largest automobile professional website...... All of them are controlled by the parent company of Guanghui Automobile. Even our Twitter and Potato in the United States are their group."
"Twitter is also the parent company of Korn Radiance Motors?", I heard Allen introduce the connection of Korn Glory.
Twitter is now one of the most popular internet apps in the United States, and almost all netizens have their own Twitter accounts.
Bill Ford was no exception, so I was surprised to hear that this company was actually involved with Radiance Automobile.
"Yes, the parent company of Guanghui Automobile, Guanghui Group, is the largest Internet company in the Celestial Empire and the fastest growing Internet company in the world, and its influence on the Internet is very huge."
Alan Mulally also did an investigation on the relevant situation of Guanghui Automobile, after all, one is willing to buy and the other is willing to sell, so it is necessary to deepen the understanding.
