Chapter 1156: Prophecy
Dumbledore stood up and walked past Evan and Harry to a black cabinet next to the phoenix perch. Pen @ fun @ pavilion wWw. ļ½ļ½ļ½Uļ½Eć ļ½ļ½ļ½ļ½
He bent down, pulled the latch of the door, and took out a shallow-bottomed stone basin, a meditation basin, from inside.
"Throughout, this prophecy was crucial, and it determined that you were Voldemort's opponent, not me, not Aven, not anyone else, but you, Harry!" Dumbledore said, returning to his desk and placing the meditation basin on the table, "on a cold, wet night sixteen years ago, at Hogsmeade's Hogsmeade's Hoghead Bar. I went there to meet an applicant who wanted to be a teacher of the divination class, although it was not at all in line with my intention to keep the divination class going. But the applicant was the great-great-granddaughter of a very well-known and gifted prophet, so it was the usual etiquette for me to go and meet her. However, I was disappointed. In my opinion, she didn't inherit that talent at all. I wish I had been polite enough to tell her that she wasn't fit for the position. Then I turned and walked away, but to my astonishment, she was probably spurred on by this event at that time, and she made a real prophecy, and it was the beginning of everything. ā
Dumbledore raised his wand and pointed it to his temple, pulling out a few silver, cobweb-thin thought fibers that stuck to the wand, and placing them into the stone basin, where he watched as his thoughts swirled and floated.
After a moment, he sighed and raised his wand again, plucking the silver filament at the tip of the wand.
A figure emerged from within, wrapped around a shawl, her eyes unusually large behind her glasses.
She spun slowly, her feet in the meditation basin, and Sybil Terlawnette spoke, in that harsh, hoarse voice.
"The man who has the power to conquer the Dark Lord has approached, he was born into a family that has defeated the Dark Lord three times, born in the seventh month, the Dark Lord has marked him as his fierce enemy, but he has an energy that the Black Lord does not understand. One must die at the hands of the other, for neither can both live, only one will survive, and the one who has the power to conquer the Dark Lord will be born at the end of the seventh month......"
The slowly spinning Professor Trelawney was once again immersed in the silver ball below, and the office was silent.
No one made the slightest sound, and even the phoenix fell silent.
"That's what that prophecy is about, a real prophecy?"
"Yes, a true prophecy. Dumbledore said.
He was still staring at the meditation basin, as if his whole being was lost in thought.
"But what did she mean by that?" Harry asked, "why ......?"
She meant. Dumbledore said, "The man who had only one chance to conquer the demons forever was born nearly sixteen years ago at the end of July, and the boy's parents had defeated Voldemort three times. ā
Harry felt as if something was strapped to his body, and his breathing seemed to be difficult again.
Dumbledore looked at him through his eyes for a moment.
"Actually. He said softly, "Sybil's prophecy can be applied to two wizarding boys, both born at the end of July of that year, their parents were both in the Order of the Phoenix, and both had escaped death at Voldemort's hands three times. One is you, Harry, and the other is Neville Longbottom. ā
"But why is my name in the prophecy and not Neville's?"
"When you were a child, after Voldemort attacked you, the official records were relabeled. Dumbledore said, picking up the Prophecy Ball again, "From the custodian of the Prophecy Hall, it's obvious to the keeper of the Prophecy Hall that Voldemort wants to kill you, because he knows that you are the one Sybil is referring to. ā
"But maybe it wasn't me?" said Harry, "I don't understand, why it has to be me?"
"I'm afraid that person is undoubtedly you, I think. Dumbledore said slowly.
"You just said that Neville was born at the end of July, and his parents ......"
"The key is the second half of the prophecy, the final identifying trait of the boy who was able to conquer Voldemort, whom Voldemort himself labeled as his rival. He did, Harry. He chose you, not Neville, and he left this scar on your forehead that has proven to be both a blessing and a curse. ā
"But he may have chosen the wrong one!" Harry said immediately, "or the wrong person!"
"The boy he chose was someone he considered to be a very likely threat to him. "And be mindful that he has chosen not to be pure-blood, but half-blood, like himself." He saw himself in you before he met you, and when he left you with that scar as a marker, he didn't kill you as he wanted, but instead gave you strength and a chance to grow. It's these things that allow you to escape from his hands, not just once, but even when you face him alone, which neither your parents nor Neville's parents have ever done. ā
Evan did the same, and he escaped from Voldemort many times. ā
"Oh, I think it's because Evan is involved in another prophecy and a plan left behind by the four founders of Hogwarts. Dumbledore said solemnly, "But his opponent is not Voldemort, the only person who can defeat Voldemort is you, and it was Voldemort himself who chose you." ā
"I don't understand, why would he do that?" Harry asked, feeling cold and unconscious, "why did he try to kill me when I was a baby? He should have waited until Neville and I were both grown up to see who was more threatening to him before trying to kill that person......
"This may indeed be a more effective way!" Dumbledore said, "but it cannot be ruled out that Voldemort did not fully understand the contents of the prophecy, and Sybil chose the Hog's Head Bar because of its cheap price. And the hog's head bar has long attracted a lot more interesting customers than the three broomsticks bar, if we can say so. This bar is by no means a safe place to count on your conversation from being overheard, and of course, when I set out to meet Sybil Trelawney, I never dreamed that I would hear something of great value. It should be said that our luck was that the eavesdropper was found after hearing only a small part of the prophecy and was thrown out of the bar. ā
Evan sniffled, it was Snape who had overheard the prophecy, the incomplete prophecy.
Dumbledore should never have spoken out about it, he had promised, and that's why he didn't let them into the meditation basin.
Eavesdropping on that prophecy was probably the most painful thing in Snape's life, which in itself was a mistake.
