Chapter 273: Language
Writing is the greatest invention after magic.
It is what makes civilization.
The hieroglyphs we use today were gradually simplified from oracle bone inscriptions over the course of tens of thousands of years of development, but our names use a relatively simple script that prescribes letters, pronunciations, and then combines and defines the meaning they represent, except that everyone uses hieroglyphs to write their names.
That's not normal, it's just that it has lasted too long, people have become accustomed to it, ordinary people can ignore such innocuous "small problems", we can't, modern research has shown that the words used in our names are actually an ancient lingua franca, yes, the truth is actually very simple, our current names are very strange compared to the Otlan Empire, which also uses hieroglyphs, because from the very beginning, the words we use to name and write are not the same language family at all.
It seems to have been a lingua franca from the time of the Four Great Powers after the fall of the elves.
Research shows that at that time, the language barrier caused a lot of confusion.
This kind of alphabet spelling text is relatively coarse, it lacks compatibility, we can create a text at will, a word represents the new object, but [ancient lingua franca], in order to facilitate reading and writing, the new word must not be too long, and an object occupies a combination sequence, its sequence is always limited.
Even if you have a long word shorthand, there are only a limited number of sequences that can be abbreviated.
To this day, every civilization that has a long period of development and has no fault in between, or a short fault line, has evolved from hieroglyphs, such as Avaranga, Otlan, and SmΓ₯lan, which is enough to prove the superiority of this language family.
We believe that the script used in a normal large country is bilingual.
An unsimplified set of self-used scripts, a simplified language of foreign communication, which is also the mode we use today, the current name format, as a legacy of that time, may accompany us until we are completely extinct.

Some people say that language is the core essence of a civilization, because without language, civilization would cease to exist.
I think that's right.
In modern archaeology, there are far more complete [pictographic evolutionary writings] than the existing three, three countries, and three languages, and the civilizations that have been destroyed on the way to our current heights are simply innumerable.
For example, the ancient civilization of Kana, which is now famous for its earliest discovery, perished under the power of nature.
The island kingdom died in a supervolcanic eruption.
If it weren't for archaeological research, we wouldn't know that there was still Kana in this world.
Because the descendants of this civilization are all extinct, we can only infer the meaning of those words from the existing remnants of the text, and the decipherment is a long process, and many linguists have their own opinions and debates, especially some of the words that have nothing to do with the natural environment and objects, and are tentatively speculated to be grammatical particle particles, adjectives, and verbs, as for how to pronounce these words, no one will ever know.
May we not become extinct.
I don't want to see a crowd of people standing on our ruins arguing what we really are, arguing around our bones about whether we are unclothed savages or not, who might take our runes as unspeakable paintings, and then put on us a false faith that they know us basically.
This is a mistake we have made, and this is the case in the study of the [Kudzu] tribe.
Researchers at the time confused the primitive tribes that appeared there a thousand years earlier than the neighborhood, and as a result, a group of people who could make clothes out of animal skins, make pottery, and refer to specific objects with special marks (this is the primitive writing) were regarded as uncivilized tribes who did not even know how to use fire, and this misconception was not corrected until further archaeological excavations.
What we can see is that civilizations were extremely fragile in the early days, dying from droughts, floods, earthquakes, landslides, locust plagues, insect plagues, or destroying people who were stronger than them despite being uncivilized.
Ancient kingdoms have gradually awakened from myths and legends with modern excavations, but the masters of the kingdoms have become the dust of history.
They are like sand castles on the coast, they disappear as soon as the waves come by, but the longer they exist, the bigger and stronger the stone castle becomes.
Over time, it will gradually become made of wood, then stone, and then a layer of iron, and then the foundation, and finally the whole sandcastle will become made of iron, and finally, we will build a levee.
At least none of today's countries have reached the stage of feudalism or higher, and they can be shaken by the eruption of a cricket volcano.
One day, when Avaranga died, it would be war or a threat from heaven.
Like an asteroid impact or something.
And we who have come to this day have reached new heights by standing on the shoulders of those who came before us, and we have also been influenced by many of the past.
Today's writing, to a large extent, has been influenced by the ancient elf kingdom, although the phonetics, glyphs, and grammar have been completely different, we can still find some similar traces, that is the erosion of the advanced to the backward, and there are many ancestral prayer rituals that were simplified at that time, they are right, sweeping away the obstacles to progress is inevitable in development, but they failed, so they were condemned as evil, in fact, the ancient elves were just too arrogant, and too impatient.
If they win, then today we are a "weak barbarian race", "little ants trying to resist fate", and they are a species of "kindness, justice, and civilization", the winner is the king, and the loser is just a villain, and if you are backward, you will be beaten, and it will never change.
They can completely take other races as vassals, assimilate us culturally, and then just wait, and when those who resist are consumed, the rest will naturally be obedient people.
In fact, in a sense, the ancient elves have succeeded.
There are still people who can use the ancient elven language proficiently, but no one can use the ancient language of other races, and the current language is largely borrowed from part of the elven language as the foundation, the language, the essence of civilization, was destroyed once in the early days, but we are already very lucky, haven't we, we have developed, much luckier than those fellow travelers who fell on the road, at least we can still sit here and complain.
Ironically, it is the old elves who have destroyed us who have contributed so much to the restoration of our ancient languages, without whom we would never have progressed faster.
But we shouldn't put the hatred of our ancestors today, we are just blocking the way of others, and others are just tearing down a roadblock.
They're right, they just lost.
