Chapter 53: The White Statue
Carey's group, guided by Pierre, cautiously and quickly approached Vane's residence, a small manor house made of blue-gray stone bricks, with two guards at the door.
The two were basking in the sun and lazily leaning against the wall, sleeping soundly, and their snoring could be heard even from a distance.
Carey asked softly, "Are you sure it's here?"
"There's no mistake, both smells come from here. ”
Pierre pinched his nose, a little unbearable. For some unknown reason, the smell of defectors made him extremely uncomfortable. But he was sure that the smell was what he had been tracking for a long time.
Carey beckoned to the man behind him.
He and one of the soldiers approached two manor guards who were sleeping comfortably.
Maybe it's because of Carey's tall stature blocking out the warm sunlight. The shadow fell on the guard's face, making him immediately aware that someone was approaching.
He had just frowned and was about to open his eyes, when someone suddenly covered his mouth. Then he felt his neck clamped around a pair of broad palms like iron tongs.
"Mmmm......mmmm
He let out a frightened whimper, and the thought of breaking free just crossed his head. In the next second, a tremendous force was heard, and all he heard was the sound of bones dislocated—from his neck.
The hands that wanted to grab Carey instantly fell weakly in the air.
After Carey eliminated one of the guards, the soldiers he brought with him also dealt with the other guard neatly.
The two guards' eyes were wide open, their pupils constricting in horror slowly dilating as death approached.
With some disgust, Carey wiped the saliva that remained on the palm of one of the guards' clothes before beckoning the rest of the people to come over. He glanced at the two lying on the ground, forcibly suppressing the ambivalence of the two different ideas.
- Now is not the time to be merciful.
A few people gently pushed open the door, and when they looked inside, they found that it was quiet only the crisp sound of birds. They quickly rushed in and dragged the bodies of the two in.
"What about these two people......?"
"Hide, you two guard the door, and the rest will come with me. Carey quickly gave instructions.
I don't know if it was because the chief of Giethoorn took everyone away to help, but they easily entered the house without any hindrance.
Pierre frowned and pointed to a room, and said softly, "He should have been here for a long time, but now I'm not sure if he's still there." ”
Carey nodded, turning the doorknob slightly, only to find that the door was locked. He tried a little harder, but he still couldn't open it.
"Willy, are you there?"
In desperation, Carey could only take the risk of calling Roy's cousin's name to confirm if there was anyone inside.
After waiting for a while, there was still no movement. Just as Carey was about to break down the door directly, there was finally movement behind the door.
Someone asked, "How do you know my name?"
"I was sent by your cousin Roy to pick you up, my name is Carey, Carey Hilter. I met you a few times when I was a kid, remember?"
"You're Brother Carey?!"
Willy seemed to try to check through the crack in the door to see if what Carey was telling was true, but after a while, the door slowly opened.
"I thought someone was going to kill me......"
Willie was only about thirteen years old, not very tall, with curly blue-gray hair, which looked a little similar to Roy's.
He breathed a long sigh of relief: "Brother Carey, how did you find me?"
"Now is not the time to explain, we have to leave quickly. ”
“...... But my dad was caught by them, and if I leave, they will be bad for him. Willy said hesitantly.
"Your dad has been saved by Roy, otherwise we wouldn't have known you were being held here. ”
"Ahh ”
As soon as Willy finished speaking, Pierre patted Carey on the shoulder and said to Carey, "Lord Carey, I think you'd better check that room." ”
"Huh?"
Carey wanted to get out of the house as soon as he could—ever since he entered the house, he felt like a pair of eyes were on him. With each passing second, he felt his heart grow more and more irritable.
Pierre didn't explain, but led the group directly to the room.
The room is simply furnished – just a white stone statue.
It was a humanoid god with a circle of light on his head and a pair of white wings behind his back. Strangely, his hands were clasped tightly around him, as if he was in great pain.
Although Carey was curious about what kind of gods there would be in this world, he never had a chance to learn about it, and he only remembered a church god with no specific image.
He then looked down to find three corpses casually thrown at the foot of the stone statue—as if in some kind of ritual.
"Evil spirits?"
Carey couldn't help but frown. If the village chief is known about the evil spirit sacrifice, even if the village chief hides at the end of the world, he will be hunted down and eliminated.
Carey examined the three bodies and found them all stiff, presumably dead for some time. Combined with Willy's description, it is very possible to sacrifice evil spirits.
Pierre shook his head: "It doesn't feel like it, but I know the identities of these children." ”
Others looked at Pierre, waiting for his answer.
"It's the missing child ...... Ante Village"
"Wait......" Carey suddenly couldn't turn around. How could the missing child be here, kidnapped by a water monster, and die at the house of the village chief, isn't it?
"How can you be sure?"
"I went to them, do you remember? I asked their family for underwear, but in the end the tracking failed because the smell was too weak. ”
After a long silence, it occurred to Carey that Mr. Carlyle had told him a long time ago. If it weren't for the thought of the curse of the water monster, he would probably have forgotten about it long ago.
"Do any of you know the name of this village chief?"
Carey's gaze swept over everyone and saw that everyone was at a loss.
"Brother Carey, I know. Willy tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "I've heard their conversation before, and they call him Master Vanne. ”
"Vann?!"
Carey took a breath and suddenly figured something out. He nodded, "Take these children with you, they are also the subjects of Eternal Light." ”
"Yes......"
Carey looked at the strange "idol" again, its eyes had been deliberately hollowed out, dark and hollow. "I always feel like there are eyes watching us......"
The soldiers looked at each other, and one of them boldly said, "My lord, we feel this way too." ”
Pierre touched his chin and walked around the "idol": "In such a big room, there is a 'idol'...... Strange, really weird...... And, as soon as I entered here, the smell of defectors disappeared...... It's so weird. ”
"Maybe the defector spotted us early and fled?" Carey continued to scan the "idol", still finding no mechanism. He guessed for a moment and gave up on further checking.
"Perhaps...... Alas! another step slow. Pierre sighed in frustration.
