Chapter 098: There is a spectrum

In the home dressing room at Highbury Stadium, manager Arsene Wenger was giving his final tactical analysis and mobilisation.

It's been told many times before, so some players are listening intently, while others are drawn to the LCD TV screens in the dressing room.

The TV was showing footage of the match being played at home to Inter Milan in the 2003/2004 UEFA Champions League.

That match was played on 25 November 2003, a day that countless Arsenal fans will remember.

If Arsenal were knocked out of the Champions League on 25 November 2003 after losing at the Meazza Stadium, the day would be forgotten very quickly.

You know, just two months before this day, Arsenal suffered a 3-0 defeat at the feet of Inter Milan in Highbury, and in the second leg of the group stage at Meazza Stadium, Arsenal will be eliminated early unless they win.

In the end, Arsene Wenger's side overcame injuries and a heavy first-leg home defeat to deliver the biggest home defeat in 47 years of European competition for the Milan giants.

It was a proud evening for Arsenal fans from afar. They slaughtered Inter Milan 5-1 away from home!

Without a doubt, the star of this special show is Thierry Henry.

In the 25th minute, the French striker broke the deadlock with an instinctive effort and although Inter relied on Christian Vieri to equalise in the first half, Arsenal quickly regained control.

Four minutes after the break, Thierry Henry played a pass to Freddy Ljungberg and the Swede again put the Gunners ahead before the Frenchman netted again five minutes from time.

Henry dribbled through the ball after receiving a header from Parlour halfway through, and after twice getting away from Argentine captain Javier Zanetti, the Frenchman fired a powerful left-footed shot past the goalkeeper of Francisco Toldo. The ball perfectly showcased Henry's superhuman abilities – speed, power, technique and lethal strikes.

With Inter's defence crumbling, there are many more wonderful moments for Arsenal fans to enjoy. Before being replaced by Jemal Ariadellere, Thierry Henry launched an attack to set up Edu's fourth goal, and Robert Pire sealed the score at 5-1.

Arsène Wenger's side are at the top of the Premier League, but their ability to compete in Europe has been criticised. This game was undoubtedly a perfect response.

Arsene Wenger noticed that some of the players were focused on the TV, and the French professor smiled, pointing to the TV screen and saying, "The heaviest defeat in the history of Inter Milan so far was caused by us, so you can ask Thierry how he felt about that game. ”

The crowd looked at Captain Henry.

The French star also had a smile on his face, "It's wonderful!"

Then there was a burst of laughter in the home dressing room.

***********

"Welcome to Highbury Stadium! You are now tuning in to the first leg of the 2005/2006 UEFA Champions League semi-finals against Arsenal and Inter Milan. The two sides have met twice before, in the 2003/2004 UEFA Champions League group stage, Inter Milan beat Arsenal 3-0 in the first leg at Highbury Stadium, but at Meazza Stadium, Arsenal handed Inter Milan a 5-1 defeat!

As the commentator said this, the broadcast camera showed a close-up of Highbury Stadium, and in the center stand, Arsenal fans unfurled a huge banner that read: '5:1!'

"Aha, this must be the number that Inter Milan fans hate the most!" laughed Andy Grayhaha, the BBC5 commentator for England.

Subsequently, when the players of both sides came out and the live broadcast began to broadcast Inter Milan's starting lineup, the Arsenal fans suddenly chanted in unison: 5:1!

The camera immediately gave Inter Milan coach Li Ang a close-up, and the Chinese coach's face was slightly calm.

It is naturally impossible for Li Ang not to know about Inter Milan's worst European defeat in history, you know, the media and reporters in England have always 'reminded' in his ears these days. However, Leon didn't care, did it have anything to do with him? The Inter Milan manager at that time was not him. As long as his team can win and get past Arsenal, that's a good result.

Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti had a slightly solemn expression, his fists clenched slightly.

As an experience of that fiasco, Zanetti still remembers that fiasco, and in today's game, the Inter Milan captain has a strong desire to fight, and he wants revenge!

***********

The game has begun, and Leon is sitting in the coach's seat.

He has in his hand a list of Arsenal's starting XI for today: Lehmann/Eboue, Toure, Sandros, Flamini/Hleb, Cesc Fabregas, Ljungberg, Gilberto Silva, Pire/Thierry.

This should be said to be the strongest lineup that Wenger can put out right now.

At right-back, Eboue was the first choice and 2006 was a breakthrough year for Eboue. With Lauren's injury, the Ivory Coast defender has a great opportunity. The right-back impressed Arsene Wenger with his excellent running speed, and the French coach compared him to Brazilian legend Garrincha.

At centre-back, Toure and Campbell were an indestructible defensive duo at the back and helped the Gunners win the league title unbeaten in 2003/04. However, Campbell was suspended today due to accumulating yellow cards, so today's partner with Toure is Senderos, and seeing the young Swiss defender start, Leon has a smile on his face, and he is looking forward to Adriano making a breakthrough at Senderos today.

The talented Swiss defender had high hopes for Arsene Wenger, but after being beaten by Didier Drogba in the 2005 Community Shield, Senderos became extremely inconsistent, or so to speak, Sendros has had a psychological shadow when facing a physically strong centre-forward.

Before the game, Li Ang analyzed that Wenger might send Senderos and Toure to partner as central defenders today, so he put special emphasis on letting Adriano stare at Senderos and press the Swiss defender strongly!

It can be said that when predicting Senderos's start, Leon had a plan in mind for this game.
