Chapter 280: The Great Compassion Mantra
Mrs. Huixin tidied up the room and came down to look at the mourning hall arranged by Jin Lian, because considering that she also had to explain Buddhist scriptures to Jin Lian, she added a long table and two square stools in front of the mourning hall. Jin Lian cooked a few tofu-based vegetarian dishes, boiled a pot of white porridge, baked several flatbreads, and it was completely dark.
Use a tray and serve four kinds of vegetarian dishes, fried dried tofu, chicken with vegetarian roasted soybean oil, boiled tofu with cabbage, and a plate of tofu milk. The second time the white porridge and flatbread were served, the candles were lit, and Pan Jinlian and Mrs. Shi ate together. Master Hui Xin praised Jin Lian's craftsmanship well, and vegetarian dishes can make such a good taste, and then said: "Actually, it will be good to have two vegetarian dishes in the future, if there is a dish of tofu, it will be a delicacy for the monks." In the future, you will be a woman, and you will not have any strengths, so don't spend too much and let yourself be stretched thin in the future. ā
Mrs. Huixin's kindness and thoughtfulness warmed Pan Jinlian, their family is a person who has lived in a bitter cold place for a long time, and longs to see the warm sunshine, and Mrs. Huixin's words are this warm sunshine. They were talking and eating, and they were in a good mood.
As she was talking, Wang Po came upstairs and asked Jin Lian: "Jin Lian, is this the Huixin Master that Sister-in-law Sun invited for you?"
Pan Jinlian stood up and pointed to Mrs. Wang and said to Mrs. Huixin: "This is Mrs. Wang, a neighbor of my family, and she opened a teahouse next door. ā
Master Huixin nodded and said to Wang Po: "This Wang benefactor, if you haven't eaten, then I will invite you to eat together on behalf of the master." ā
When Mrs. Wang saw their meals, she said to Mrs. Huixin: "Mrs. Huixin, you are a precious guest, if it weren't for Sister-in-law Sun's big face, who would be able to invite you? ā
Master Hui Xin said: "The monks do not pay attention to extravagance, I see that the Lord Pan Shi and our Buddhist family have a fate, this kind of food is already very good, I don't know how many people work hard to ask for such a meal, if the Lord Wang feels that the food is simple and not to taste, then we are not reluctant, we will eat first." With that, he beckoned Jin Lian to sit down, put Wang Po aside, and continued to eat, but did not say anything more.
Pan Jinlian knows that Wang Po is not a natural bad person, she also has contradictions in her heart, she has no children and no daughters, she is alone, and she has gradually entered old age, she also wants to tie up with Ximenqing and get some money from him, so as not to even be able to afford to eat when she is old, that Ximenqing's money is all money with a clear conscience, and she knows it in her heart; in addition, she is also afraid that others will spurn and isolate her.
That's why she asked her sister-in-law to help Pan Jinlian when Ximenqing was not in Yanggu County, because she and Ximenqing both thought that Pan Jinlian had already willingly obeyed Ximenqing's majesty and did not dare to disobey Ximenqing's arrangement. But she was afraid that after listening to Master Huixin's explanation of the Buddhist scriptures, she would make Jin Lian regret her previous actions, so the benefit that Ximenqing gave her was not only to catch the moon in the water, but also to kill her with Ximenqing's viciousness.
In such a situation, she would naturally come to see if Mrs. Huixin would pose a threat to her interests. Seeing that Master Huixin was calm and calm, he was just a monk's compassion and sympathy for Jin Lian, and would not cause other troubles.
It seems that Wang Po is relieved, so she said: "Then I won't accompany Master Huixin, Jin Lian's craftsmanship is still passed on by me, to put it mildly, I make a good meal, and the teacher is too interested in changing the heavens, so I asked Jin Lian to tell me, I make good dishes for Mrs. Shi to taste, and I can also use this to get married to Mrs. Shi." And so the princess took her leave.
Master Huixin didn't say anything, listened to her, and then looked at the change in the expression on Jin Lian's face, and continued to bury her head in eating vegetarian food.
It was dark, and the surroundings were as silent as death, and Master Huixin sat in the golden lotus room with her, and then she said: "The donor is afraid that he will suffer by himself, Buddhism says that planting good causes and producing good results, and the king donor values money and is too persistent, I am afraid that it will produce evil consequences." Buddhism also talks about a self-crossing, let's not think about her, from tomorrow, I will tell you a passage every day, step by step, in a hurry. ā
During this time, Pan Jinlian's restless heart was finally enlightened by Mrs. Huixin, and Mrs. Huixin gave her a lecture, which was God's favor for Jinlian and kindness to her.
As soon as the morning dawned, Pan Jinlian got up to boil water for Huixin Shitai to make tea and porridge, and then asked Shitai to get up, wash her face, and have breakfast.
After a simple lunch, Pan Jinlian and Mrs. Huixin each had a bowl of thin noodles handmade by Jinlian, rested for a while, and recited the "Great Compassion Mantra" three times.
Master Huixin then introduced what the "Great Compassion Mantra" is all about: "The Great Compassion Mantra is the great compassion of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, the heavenly bodhicitta and the important mantra for the people of the world to become Buddhas.
Master Huixin saw that Jin Lian was looking serious and thoughtful, so she stopped. Jin Lian told Mrs. Shi that after three years of chanting, she only learned the source of "The Great Compassion Mantra" today, so she felt a little funny. Mrs. Huixin didn't smile, she just said calmly: "Many ordinary people tend to only see what they show on the outside, and few people care about the consistency of appearance and connotation. This unanimity is more than what is shown on the outside, and it is not too late for you to realize today. ā
It was Zhang Shanren who asked Pan Jinlian to recite scriptures in the Buddhist hall for three years, in fact, it was also for outsiders to see, and he thought that he was a loving father who spent so much effort to atone for his daughter's sins. The purpose of arranging Jin Lian as a stand-in is to make Jin Lian submit to his authority, to be his concubine, and to be his tool for passing on the lineage. So what sutra Jin Lian recites does not hinder his purpose, he doesn't care at all, and he is not interested. Then Jin Lian's ignorance of the Buddhist scriptures is not her fault, thinking of this, Jin Lian's face showed a look of relief.
Seeing Pan Jinlian closing her eyes and pondering, Master Huixin knew that she was really contemplating her thoughts, so she picked up the teacup and took a few sips of tea: "My mouth is dry, I want to take a break, and I will stop here today." I would like to hear what you have learned after listening to these paragraphs, and we can talk. ā
Pan Jinlian sighed and said: "In this vast world, all living beings, every time they run around in the world and work hard and accumulate wealth, most of them are for their children and grandchildren to enjoy the wealth of the poor, or to enjoy the things that can be bought with money in the world, and rarely for the benefit of others. If this person in the world is really like Guanyin Bodhisattva is a person who gives birth to a thousand hands and thousands of eyes to help all sentient beings in this vast world, then this person is not a Buddha, and I am afraid that he will also be famous among the people for eternity, and he may not leave a famous history. ā
I didn't expect Pan Jinlian's words to make Master Huixin appreciate it too much, her eyes lit up and she said: "It's been a long time since I've heard words that I understand life so thoroughly, and if you hadn't suffered a lot, I'm afraid you wouldn't have such an understanding." ā
Then she added thoughtfully: "I'm afraid that the donor's uncle is also like this, who is willing to grow a thousand hands and a thousand eyes and benefit all sentient beings, right? But even if there are a thousand hands and a thousand eyes to benefit all sentient beings, I am afraid that sometimes they often can't take care of their own relatives and also need Tetra Pak." ā
The rest of the time, Mrs. Hui Xin chatted with Jin Lian, she did not ask about Jin Lian's past, but Jin Lian trusted her, and told her about her family background and her uncle, her parents' marriage, her grandfather's trust, and her uncle's lifelong commitment. Master Huixin quietly turned the rosary in his hand, feeling that the stone that pressed on Jin Lian's heart no longer existed.
Jin Lian cooked four kinds of vegetarian dishes, cold salad shredded cabbage, stir-fried cabbage, vermicelli boiled cabbage, vegetarian fried tofu cubes, white porridge and a plate of sesame pancakes. At dinnertime, Wang Po came around again, this time she didn't come empty-handed, she really brought a few colors of mountain delicacies, mushrooms, fungus, yellow flowers, bamboo shoots, Jin Lian did not refuse, accepted it, and the day passed peacefully.
The next day, Mrs. Huixin said: "Sincerity is spirituality, and the emphasis is on one word of sincerity." If you really think sincerely, leaving all your troubles behind, your soul will naturally be sublimated, and then this heart disease and body disease will not be cured. The method of reciting scriptures for a little monk like you said, don't say ten or eight times, even if it is a thousand times, it is useless. ā
Pan Jinlian still seemed to believe it or not, and Master Huixin smiled and said, "Comprehend slowly, don't rush." ā
Pan Jinlian couldn't understand these interpretations, so she asked Mrs. Huixin: "Mrs. Master, why do you talk so much that you get the true meaning of the Buddhist scriptures, but I seem to understand a little, some seem to understand but don't understand, and some don't understand at all." ā
Master Huixin said: "Buddhism is boundless, I have studied Buddhist scriptures for 30 years, and now I can only say that I know only a little understanding, and you have only studied Buddhism for a few days? You just need to have peace of mind and slowly come to your senses. ā
"It is often said that the Master leads the way into the door, and the cultivation is in everyone. I can only lead you into the door, and how much I realize is the creation of each person. In fact, if you think about it, in this vast world, after we are born, we will live in just a few decades, how many people can live to be 100 years old? I have not seen the ancients before, we have not seen the comers after us, and there are a thousand things and a hundred kinds of people, how much do you say we really understand? The greed, hatred, and ignorance that Buddhism wants to abstain from are also a kind of obsession that must be abstained from. ā
Master Huixin's words seemed to mean something about Jin Lian, but it seemed to be said casually, which made Pan Jinlian think about it for a while and didn't understand, so I don't want to, it will come naturally, this is still caused by the short time to learn Buddhism, right?
Master Huixin paused for a moment, took a breath, and said no more, because she saw the confusion on Jin Lian's face, so she smiled and said, "If you have any doubts, just say it, the Buddha's teachings are also perfected in constant debate." Even if the Tang Dynasty Sanzang Master opened the altar to preach the scriptures, there were people who debated according to the Buddhist scriptures, which is very normal, and the great master was often refuted from time to time. ā
Seeing that Master Huixin did not reproach the Buddha of Jin Lian's insincerity at all, Jin Lian boldly said: "Master Huixin, if reciting the "Great Compassion Mantra" can really cure 84,000 diseases, then if people are sick, don't they need to ask a doctor, just recite the "Great Compassion Mantra" will be fine?"
Master Huixin said: "Buddhism talks about a fate in everything, and if it is really related to the Buddha, then reciting the "Great Compassion Mantra" will work. In fact, this is the same principle as asking a doctor to see a doctor, you think, if you don't trust that doctor to cure your disease? If you invite a doctor to come, and you don't cooperate, don't take medicine, and don't listen to the doctor's arrangement, can your illness be cured?
