Chapter 2: The Last Battle of the Indomitable City (5)

Now the inner city of Saint Sophie is like a giant meat grinder. The walls on all sides had been breached on all sides, and they could no longer do anything to stop the enemy, and all the guards were surrounded by the apostles in a huge clearing near the palace. But even so, none of the warriors of Hagia Sophie despaired because of the desperate situation. The few remaining magicians used the little time their colleagues had fought for them to create a massive wall of earth, isolating the other three directions of the guards from the apostles, leaving only a gap in one direction. This is where they fought the apostles and the entrance to the meat grinder.

On one side of the meat grinder are the growing number of apostles, fearless and rushing towards the other in a way that makes people feel like a sea of mountains in a way that doesn't have any formation. On the other side, there are two distinct races. The beast slayer army on war horses rushed towards the opposite apostle with an indomitable momentum like a moving fortress, although it was still a little far from the scene of ten thousand horses galloping, but it was shocking enough, and on either side of the beast slayer army were human guards who looked much thinner but were also fearless. Some of them were the elite of the kingdom, some were ordinary soldiers, and more were the common people who volunteered to stay and live with St. Sophie and Magellan. The weapons in their hands were also different, and the guards soldiers held almost all kinds of swords made of stainless steel, and the weapons of ordinary soldiers were slightly weaker. The civilians had a wide variety of weapons, including farm tools and knives, but their most powerful weapon was their courage.

Although only a few of the human guards were equipped with war horses, they did not have war horses, but they rushed towards the apostles who were also rushing towards them with the same decisive posture as the beast slayer army. Behind them, the few archers and magicians, who are now the only remaining ranged forces of Hagia Sophie, kicked off with fireballs and a rain of arrows.

"Hmph. Some of the charging apostles snorted and fell to the ground unwillingly. The tails of several arrows still fluttered on their sturdy bodies, but more of the apostles pulled out the arrows that had sunk into their bodies with disdain, smiled mockingly at the guards on the other side, and attacked again. However, there were many who were more unlucky than them, and the various magic thrown by the magicians were much more powerful than the arrows that were not very lethal, and the charred and frozen apostles could be seen almost every few steps, but this still could not stop the apostles from moving forward.

Finally, the close contact battle began, opposite the thousands of apostles, there was only a few hundred beast slayers, but this time the contact battle began with the defeat of the apostles. When the speed advantage of the cavalry was fully exploited, the formation of hundreds of beast slaughtering armies and more than a hundred human cavalry slapped heavily on the rock formed by the apostles like a monstrous wave.

This duel ended with the victory of the cavalry, and by the power of the charge, within a distance of several tens of meters, any apostle who tried to block the horse ended in being knocked away. There were quite a few apostles who planned to wait until the power of the charge had waned before sneaking up from behind their horses, but the human cavalry with the Beast Slayer served as a good cover. The horsemen on their horses stabbed each of the apostles they met with their spears, and achieved good results.

But when the speed of the horses slowed down due to the increasing number of apostles, the gap between the cavalry and the apostles disappeared. The knight's spear of the human cavalry is sharp, but it has a single function. Coupled with the fact that it was too heavy, the horse's movement slowed down and it was completely useless, and the saber on his body was powerless to penetrate the apostle's hard armor. They could only be ripped off their horses and slashed by the swarming apostles, or torn to pieces along with their horses. Some of the apostles even used their blood to tear the flesh and blood of the cavalry who had not yet been sacrificed, and tried to break the psychological defense of the guards.

But this provoked the opposite effect, and after seeing this scene, the beast slaughter army was instead aroused to the primitive beast nature. Some of the Beast Slayer even learned to put some of the apostles alive on the war horses and eat their flesh, and also deliberately threw some stumps to other Beast Slayer Armies to share with them. What's even more terrifying is that these beast slayers did the same as those apostles, none of these apostles died when they were eaten. While the apostles who had become physical objects wailed bitterly, some of the apostles were afraid. Dozens of apostles involuntarily stopped their charge and looked at each other.

This act of cowardice made the captains of the apostles extremely angry, and there was no room for manoeuvre, and while the apostles were still hesitating, the sharp machetes had already cut off the heads of the cowardly apostles. Some of the Apostle captains also raised the heads and smashed them at the Beast Slayer who were still eating the flesh and blood of the Apostles. And these smashed beast slaughterers just grinned, threw down the stumps and flesh in their hands, and drove the war horses to continue harvesting in the apostle herd. By this time, the soldiers who had no mounts had already arrived, and at great cost they had died with the apostles.

"These monsters!" Urevar, who was standing behind the Apostle, felt a pang of nausea, and he spread his wings and flew into battle. Fearful of the Beast Slayer and the remarkable Simos, Urevar saw the Beast Slayer on these horses as the greatest threat. Every second of Ureva's pause takes the life of a Beast Slayer.

With the addition of Ureva, the scales of victory tipped in favor of the apostles. Even though courage is the biggest line of defense for the guards, in the face of the sheer quality gap, some of the guards gradually become crazy. When one soldier can't kill an apostle, that's fine, then use more soldiers to kill you. But the consequence of this is that the already small number of people has become even smaller. It may create an advantage in one area, but the danger is greater for the guards in other areas. The end result was that when they finally killed a few of the apostles, they found that there was not a single living comrade around.

After going on like this for a while, Ureva was a little physically exhausted, but nearly a hundred of the Beast Slayer had already died because of it, which was a good result. Ureva organized the attack and ordered the apostles who had been kept out of the earthen walls to attack them with all their might, so that the guards could be killed. It seems that the final victory is not far away.
