Chapter Ninety-Seven: Hagrid and Buckbeak
Over the next few days, Harry was discharged from the school hospital, and life seemed to return to normal.
But losing a Quidditch match and what happened in the common room had an impact all the time.
The students of the entire Gryffindor House seemed to have little energy, and everyone was depressed.
Because of Ron's affairs, Hermione now seems to be in tears at any time, which is too hard for her, Harry often looks at the wreckage of his Halo 2000 alone in a daze, although everyone tries all kinds of methods to make him happy, but to no avail, Wood looks completely lifeless, as if he has lost his purpose in life all of a sudden, Fred and George are not keen on pranks, and the progress of new product development has been significantly reduced.
But none of them have changed as much as Ron.
Ron's behavior is getting more and more erratic, he now barely talks to anyone but Harry, and his temper has become very bad and unfriendly to everyone.
It's like an active volcano that has been suppressed for a long time, and it can erupt at any time.
During Monday's Potions class, after Malfoy mocked Harry in imitation of the Dementors, Ron threw a big, slippery crocodile heart at Malfoy, hitting him in the face, causing Snape to deduct Gryffindor fifty points.
I don't know if it's an illusion, but Evan always feels like Ron is a different person.
His gaze was often empty and glazed, but every time he saw himself, he was full of vigilance and hostility, as if he would pounce on him at any moment.
Evan does have this idea, if that solves all problems.
In short, an unexpected defeat made the atmosphere in the entire Gryffindor House depressing.
The only thing to be happy about lately is probably that Professor Lupin is back in class.
During Wednesday's Defence Against the Dark Arts class, Evan meets Professor Lupin.
He did look sick, his old robes were even looser on his body, and there was a thick black shadow under his eyes, and the werewolf transformation must have put a lot of load on his body.
Everyone asks about Lupin's health with concern, and complains about what Snape did when he was sick. As far as Evan knew, during his substitute teaching period, Snape taught the same thing in Defence Against the Dark Arts classes at all grades: how to identify and kill werewolves.
Of course, almost all of them don't take this seriously.
For young wizards, in this day and age, werewolves are like creatures that live in legends, and they don't think they can touch them in their lifetime.
Aside from Hermione, Evan is unclear who has discovered Lupin's true identity.
It was supposed to be Snape's disappointment, and his good intentions had had no effect other than doubling his hate.
Professor Lupin returns, making Defence Against the Dark Arts class enjoyable again.
In that class, Evan saw Lupin's new dark creature Hinkpunk, a one-legged guy who looked like it was made of wisps of smoke, was fragile, and didn't seem to want to hurt anyone.
But in reality, it often lures travelers into swamps.
It leaps forward through the foggy swamp, using the light hanging from its legs to lead the way in front of it, and the people follow the light, before falling into the swamp and suffocating to death, Hinkpunk living on the carrion of these dead men.
If you look at it through the tank, you'll never know how terrifying this creature is.
The pleasant atmosphere of Professor Lupin's return lasted only a little more than two hours, and when Evan walked downstairs to go to the auditorium for lunch, he saw Hagrid, who he hadn't seen in a long time, standing in the foyer, surrounded by Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Hagrid had just returned from the school owl room, and there he was standing, his eyes red and swollen, tears falling on the front of his leather vest.
"Hagrid, what's wrong?" Evan walked over in surprise to see Harry, Ron, and Hermione reading an official letter.
Evan leaned over and glanced at it, and the letter read:
Dear Mr. Hagrid, we have further investigated the incident in your class in which the Hippogriff attacked the students, and we have accepted Professor Dumbledore's assurances that you are not responsible for this regrettable incident.
However, we must express our concern about this problematic Hippogriff. We have decided to support Mr. Lucius Malfoy's formal complaint, so the matter will be referred to the Committee for the Disposal of Hazardous Organisms.
We will organise a hearing at the Commission's London office on January 25, when you and your Hippogriff should be present. During this time, Hippogriffs are to be tethered and isolated. Underneath your colleagues is a long list of school boards.
"They want to kill Buckbeak!" Hagrid sobbed uncontrollably, his face covered with tears, and more tears falling onto his tangled beard.
"But Buckbeak isn't a mischievous hippony-winged beast!" Harry said uncertainly, "Hagrid, I bet it's going to be fine?!"
"No, you don't know about the weirdos of the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures. Hagrid wiped his tears with his sleeve, "They're these funny animals!"
Hagrid's words made several people look at each other, not knowing how to answer.
Hippogriff, what Hagrid called an "interesting animal", was seen by others as a "terrifying monster".
Even if Buckbeak didn't mean to hurt anyone, no one would like it.
In fact, by Hagrid's usual standards, it's certainly cute.
But Evan knew that this had nothing to do with whether Buckbeak was liked or not, and that it was mainly Lucius Malfoy who was playing tricks.
The Malfoys have not been as prestigious as ever since last year's failed removal of Headmaster Dumbledore from the school board, and the conversation in the Headmaster's office about who opened the Chamber of Secrets has not been leaked, and there are now rumors throughout the wizarding world that Lucius was distributing items from Voldemort's student days.
This is not a good sign, Lucius Malfoy urgently needs something to divert everyone's attention and reinvigorate the family's prestige.
Hagrid had given him the opportunity to hold on to Hagrid and Buckbeak, the attack had turned into a contest between him and Dumbledore, and he could regain his lost prestige by removing Hagrid from his position as a teacher or killing the Hippogriff Buckbeak.
Needless to say, the politicians at the Ministry of Magic and the school board must have made a trade-off between the two of them, not wanting to offend Dumbledore or giving up the large sum of gold Galleons that Malfoy had sent.
They could support Dumbledore to keep Hagrid at the school, in exchange for Lucius Malfoy to kill Buckbeak.
No one but Hagrid cares about the life or death of a Hippogriff.
What a hearing, it's just a procedure!
That committee was almost under Malfoy's control, and no matter what Hagrid said, it wouldn't be useful.
In other words, the outcome of this incident has been determined from the beginning.
It doesn't matter what Hagrid's intentions are, whether Buckbeak is really evil or not.
Buckbeak is certain to die, although cruel, but it is a fact!
Perhaps, this is politics!
