Chapter Seventy-Five: Phantom Shifting Lesson
Heading into February, the snow around the school melted, replaced by a bleak dampness. Gray-purple clouds www.biquge.info low above the castle, and the sixth graders' first apparition class was on the playground, which was scheduled for Saturday mornings so as not to delay regular classes.
"It's not a good day. "Phoenix walked on the muddy road with one foot deep and one foot shallow. Last night's cold rain made the temperature even lower than in winter, "Good luck to you." β
Daphne had joked with him before, saying that the prefect had to go. Phoenix, who didn't think much about it, really got up early in the morning to get ready to go to the playground.
"She's teasing you, are you really going?" Brace breathed a faint white breath from his mouth.
"Of course not, stop by Hogsmeade. He said. After saying goodbye to his companions, Phoenix deliberately slowed down, and in a few moments Hermione and Harry made their way through the mud.
"Hello, Harry. β
"Hello, Phoenix. β
"Listen, you've learned to phantom, that's important. Phoenix rubbed his hands, "No matter what you do, it's a very important magical skill. β
"Okay, aren't you going?" Harry looked at him.
"No, I have better magic than that. β
Harry and Hermione arrive at the venue, where they assemble in front of McGonagall, Slughorn, Flitwick, and Professor Sprout (the four Deans) and a small wizard. Harry guessed that it was the Apparition instructor from the Ministry of Magic. He was eerily pale, with transparent eyelashes and thin hair, and there was a sense of unreality, as if a gust of wind would blow him away. Harry wondered if it was the constant shifting and manifestation that had weakened his physique, or perhaps that the delicate form was best suited to disappear.
"Good morning," said the wizard of the Ministry of Magic when the students had arrived, the prefects had asked everyone to stand in their houses, and everyone had quieted, "My name is Wicky Tecros, and I will be your Apparition instructor for the next twelve weeks, and I hope to help you prepare for this Apparition exam." By then, many students may already be able to take the exam. β
"As you may know, apparitions and transfigurations are generally not possible in Hogwarts. The headmaster went out of his way to revoke the spell and lift the restriction for one hour, just within the confines of the streamers, so that everyone could practice. I would like to stress that you should not apparition outside of this ribbon, and it would be unwise for anyone to try.
"Now I want everybody to stand on their own feet, and for each person to have a wooden circle. β
The deans lined them up, and there was chaos, and the students began to scatter, bumping into each other, and telling others to get out of their territory. The deans walked around the students, helping them get their seats lined up and mediating disputes.
"Phoenix said he didn't need to learn Apparition, did he mean he would?" asked Harry.
"It's not. Eden can take him to transform and manifest at will, not to mention the anti-phantom transfiguration spell restrictions, but he can't bring others to retinue to manifest. Hermione explained.
"We should really study," she said, looking confident, "and we'll use it when we need to pursue, to escape, and even to fight." β
"I thought about it too. β
"Thanks," said Tycros, "nowβI'm going to tell you, the most important thing to remember when an apparition manifests is the three Ds!" "Goal, determination, and calm!"
"Step 1: Focus on your goal," said Tekros, "right now, inside the wooden circle in front of you. Now focus on your goals. β
Everyone was secretly looking around to see if everyone was staring at the wooden circle, and then hurriedly did what was asked. Harry stared at the round gray ground in his wooden circle, trying not to think about anything else. Ginny's long fiery red hair and warm body came to mind. He shook his head, trying to focus.
"Step two," said Tecros, "resolve to take the space you want!
"Purpose, determination, calm"
Harry peeked around, a little further to the left, and Ernie was staring at his wooden hoop, his face flushed, as if he was trying to make a Quaffle-sized egg. Harry bit his lip and didn't dare to laugh, quickly turning his gaze back to his wooden circle.
"Step three," shouted Tyclus, "when I give the order - spin in place, enter the void state, and move calmly! Now listen to my command--one-"
Harry looked around again, and many seemed surprised that they were apparitioned so soon.
"-Harry struggled to refocus on his wooden ring; he had forgotten what the three D's were.
Harry spun on the spot, losing his balance and nearly falling. He wasn't the only one, the auditorium was suddenly full of rickety people. Neville lay on his back on his back, and Ernie jumped into the hoop in a ballet-like motion, excited for a moment, until he saw Dean laughing at him.
"It's okay, it's okay," Tekros said dryly, as if he wasn't expecting a better outcome, "set up the hoops and get back to where you areβ"
The second attempt was no better than the first, and the third was just as bad. It wasn't until the fourth time that a little irritation appeared. There was a terrible scream, and everyone turned in horror to see Hufflepuff's Susan Bones swaying in the wooden ring, but her left leg was still five feet away.
The deans gathered around her, and after a loud bang, and a puff of purple smoke cleared, everyone saw Susan sobbing and her legs shut, but she still had fear on her face.
"Separation, the separation of a part of the body," Vicky Tecros said blandly, "occurs when the resolve is not strong enough. You have to always keep your focus on the goal, don't panic, take it in stride - like this. β
Tycros stepped forward, spread his arms, spun gracefully in place, vanished in the swirl of his robes, and then appeared at the back of the Great Hall.
"Remember the three D's," he said, "one more -- one -- two -- three -- "
Hermione was the first to do this class in an hour. The pattern of the Sphinx plush hat disappeared with her in a twisted spin, appearing in the wooden circle.
Tyclus and Slughorn gathered around her and shouted praise. This was not a surprise to most people, and then other PA members did the same.
This surprised Tyclus, who praised the significant improvement in teaching at Hogwarts.
After schoolwork, Phoenix, with fire in his nostrils, walked towards them.
"Learned?" asked Phoenix, relaxedly, seemingly casually.
"Hermione learned, you know. Harry had been standing in the cold wind for an hour, his clothes covered in mud, "I'm going to have another class or two." β
"You didn't learn, it's not good. As he breathed, the flames nearly burned Harry's eyebrows.
