Chapter 40: New Semester New Teachers
Walk through the large oak door and into the deep vestibule, where torches are brightly lit. The hall has a magnificent marble staircase leading upstairs.
The door to the right of the auditorium was open, and they followed the crowd towards the hall, the magical ceiling indicating that the weather was terrible. It's raining again.
The auditorium was filled with four long college tables, and candles floated above the tables, illuminating the silver-white ghosts dotted the auditorium, and everyone was whispering to each other because of the events on the train, making the opening ceremony of the new school year a little depressing.
It wasn't long before Hagrid appeared at the faculty desk, and he walked to the very end of the desk and sat down. That is, the first-year students must have crossed the lake to the castle. Sure enough, a few seconds later, the door to the hall opened, and a long line of terrified-looking first-year freshmen was led into the auditorium by Professor Flitwick. Professor Flitwick held a stool with an old wizard's hat on top of it, with patches on top of each other and a wide tear next to the frayed brim.
To their astonishment, it is Professor McGonagall who completes this tradition every year.
But no one spoke up. Everything seems to be in order. First-year students line up at staff desks, facing their classmates from other grades. Professor Flitwick placed the stool in front of them, then stepped back. The faces of the first-year students shimmered pale in the candlelight. Maybe frightened by the Dementors. The whole school waited with bated breath. Then the crack by the brim of the hat opened like a mouth, and the Sorting Hat sang loudly.
After the Sorting Hat was finished, the auditorium burst into applause. It saluted each of the four House tables as Professor Flitwick unfolded a large roll of parchment.
"When I call someone's name, they put their hat on their head and sit on a stool," he said to the first-year students, "and when the hat announces the house, go and sit at the corresponding table." β
But no one was in the mood, they just wanted to finish early and go back to bed for a good night's sleep.
"Strange, where is Professor McGonagall?" a burst of applause erupted from Hufflepuff as a boy was sorted into Hufflepuff.
"I don't know. β
"I saw her call Granger and Potter away. "Marcus is in seventh year and this year is his last year at Hogwarts.
"Look, new teacher. Bress said.
"The one who taught Defence Against the Dark Arts used to be my personal tutor, and it's not bad. "Phoenix joins everyone in welcoming the new students who have been sorted in.
The sorting ceremony is over. Professor Flitwick picked up the Sorting Hat and small stool and took them away. New Hogwarts students wear the Sorting Hat to decide which house they should attend, and the hat calls out which house they are best suited to attend (Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin). Professor McGonagall slowly walked to her empty seat in the faculty chair, while Harry and Hermione walked as quietly as they could in the opposite direction, the Gryffindor House table. As they walked along the back of the auditorium, people looked back at them, a few pointing at Harry. He passed out in front of the Dementors, and this matter has been widely known, and it seems that it is really a good thing not to go out and evil things to do a thousand miles.
"Welcome!" Professor Dumbledore said, his beard glistening with the light of the candles, "Welcome to Hogwarts in the new school year!" I have a few things to say to all of you, one of them is very serious, and I think it would be better to make it clear before you get confused by this mealβ"
Dumbledore cleared his throat and continued. "When they searched the Hogwarts Express, you all know. Our school is currently hosting a number of Dementors from Azkaban, who are here to carry out official duties with the Ministry of Magic. Of course, there was a very serious accident in between, but thankfully, no one was permanently injured in the incident. β
"They are stationed at all entrances to the school's grounds," Dumbledore continued, "and I must make it clear during their stay here that no one is allowed to leave the school without permission. Dementors should not be tricked into trickery or disguise - not even the Cloak of Invisibility. He added expressionlessly, "Dementors don't know what a request or an excuse is. Therefore I warn each and every one of you: do not give them any excuse to hurt you. I'm counting on the prefects, as well as our new Boys and Girls Presidents, to make sure that no student comes into conflict with the Dementors. β
Dumbledore paused again, and he glanced around the Great Hall solemnly, no one moving, no one making a sound.
"It's a great pleasure," he continued, "that this year, I'm excited to welcome two new teachers to our team.
"The first was Professor Lupin, who graciously agreed to fill the void in the Defence Against the Dark Arts course. β
The Slytherin leader in Phoenix applauded, several other houses watched, and Lupin's dress symbolically clapped a few times. Professor Lupin sat in the middle of all the well-dressed teachers, looking particularly shabby.
"As for the second teacher we appointed," after the not-so-enthusiastic applause given to Professor Lupin had subsided. Dumbledore continued, "Well, I'm sorry to tell you that Professor Kettleburn, our teacher in the Conservation of Magical Creatures class, retired at the end of last year to have more time with the rest of his little mischievous. However, I am pleased to say that it was none other than Rubeus Hagrid, who had agreed to serve as a teacher in addition to his duties as a gamekeeper. β
The applause at the Gryffindor table was particularly enthusiastic.
"Well, I think the important business is said and done," Dumbledore said, "Let's start eating." β
It was a sumptuous meal, and the auditorium reverberated with laughter and the clashing of knives and forks.
"They attacked the train, and Dumbledore had them guard here? β
"You should have some confidence that the Dementors won't dare to attack us openly. "Melinda helped cut the steak into pieces.
"Not necessarily, Dementors have brains, too. They should have understood that Dumbledore couldn't really kill them - they couldn't make sure they stole a little. β
"Can't the minister change something else to protect us?"
"No, I've heard that the Aurors have been sent to search for Sirius Black. You're going to expect the Ministry of Magic to send the law to enforce it, right?" Phoenix said to Blaise, bringing Melinda's cut steak over and starting to eat it with a fork.
"And I can't believe that stupid big guy can actually be a professor, this school is really not as good as a year. Draco sliced the steak resentfully.
"Definitely. God knows, what he will teach us. "The crowd was very unhappy with Dumbledore's appointment. The last piece of pumpkin pie disappeared from the golden plate, and Dumbledore said that everyone should go to bed.
In Slytherin tradition, Phoenix presided over the Year Chief Battle. However, this year he was not interested in watching, usually young wizards of this age only have some basic magic. There is nothing ornamental and skillful, and the people who stay are sleepy to watch.
In order to end as quickly as possible, Phoenix lets everyone in and decides the winner at once.
