Chapter 30: The Hapless Lockhart
Phoenix arrives in the weeping Myrtle's bathroom, where she is sitting on the tank of one of the innermost toilets.
"Hello, I'm Peverell, and if you don't mind I'd like to ask how you died?" said Phoenix. Myrtle's demeanor changed all of a sudden. It seemed that no one had ever asked her such a question, and perhaps she felt very honored.
"Oops, it's horrible. "This is where it happened, and I died in this toilet, and I remember it very clearly." Then. Oliver Humbe laughed at me for wearing eyes like a four-eyed dog, so I hid here. I locked the door and was crying inside, when suddenly I heard someone come in, and they were talking something funny, like another language. But what annoyed me the most was that I heard a boy's voice. So I opened the door, told him to go away, went to his boys' bathroom, and—" Myrtle thought herself remarkably puffed out her chest, her face radiant, "and I died." ”
"Excuse me, how did you die?" Phoenix listened intently, but didn't hear what he needed.
"I don't know," Myrtle said mysteriously, lowering her voice, "I just remember a pair of big, scary yellow eyes, right there." ”
Phoenix hurriedly walked over and examined it carefully, and on the side of a copper dragon head, a small snake was engraved.
This was it, Phoenix was sure, and a strange hissing sound came out of his mouth. Suddenly, the dragon's head emitted a dazzling white light and began to spin rapidly. Then the pool moved, revealing a very thick pipe that could be used by a man.
Suddenly, the bathroom door was pushed open, and Professor Lockhart walked in, trembling inside, followed by Harry and Ron.
"Aha, are we Lockhart here to show off our skills!" said Phoenix, startled at first, and sarcastically when he saw the comer.
"You've found it, the entrance to the chamber. Harry was taken aback, and Ron gasped and stared at the entrance in silence.
Phoenix waved his hand and motioned for them not to speak, "Since you're here, I think everyone's goal is about the same, Ron, Harry and I press Lockhart to go ahead, if there is any movement, look at the ground, don't close your eyes." ”
"But the basilisk's eyes—" Harry said hurriedly, but was interrupted by a wave from Phoenix, "you can't tell what's going on with your eyes closed. Alright, Professor Lockhart, please. ”
"Children," he said, in a pitiful voice, "children, what's the use of that?"
"At the very least, the basilisk will eat you first. Phoenix smiled slyly, raised his foot and kicked him down. Immediately after that, the three of them also entered the slide. It felt like speeding down a dark, slimy, endless slide. Many pipes diverge in all directions, but they are not as thick as this one.
Suddenly, the water pipe became horizontal, and he emerged from the mouth of the pipe. It's a dark stone tunnel, big enough for people to stand in. Lockhart's face was pale, trembling, and covered in mud. Phoenix stood next to him, Harry and Ron, and then emerged from the tube.
"Probably to the bottom of the lake. Ron said. He narrowed his eyes and looked around.
"Now let's go, be careful. As soon as Harry finished speaking, the three of them pressed Lockhart forward with fluorescent flashes. The tunnel was so dark that they could only see a spot in front of them, and the whole tunnel was silent, except for the occasional click from under their feet, some of the bones of small animals.
After a dark bend, I saw the silhouette of a behemoth of a coiled man, lying motionless on the other side of the tunnel.
"Maybe it's asleep. Ron gasped. Phoenix and Harry slowly moved forward sideways, wands in their hands. Lockhart's body stiffened, as if he had lost the ability to think.
The light shone on a huge snakeskin, very showy, and at first glance it looked like the skin of a poisonous snake, coiled and lying on the floor of the tunnel, and the inside was empty.
"Oh my God. Ron sighed weakly.
"It's safe here, the snake will molt where it thinks it's safest, but it looks like it's at least twenty feet long. With that, Phoenix motioned to continue. Suddenly, there was a movement from behind, and it was Lockhart's knees that went limp, and he collapsed.
"Get up. Ron said sternly, pointing his wand at Lockhart.
Lockhart stood up and lunged at Ron, knocking him to the ground. Lockhart panted to his feet, Ron wand in hand. Ron's wand can't cast spells properly, so it's not good to rob anyone. He scoffed, watching Lockhart's performance—
"This is the end of your adventure, children!" he said, "and I am going to take this leash back to school, and tell them that I am too late to save the girl, and that you will sadly lose your mind when you see her bloody body." ”
"Say goodbye to your memories. He shouted, "Forget it!"
Boom! The wand suddenly exploded, no less powerful than a bomb, and part of the ceiling of the tunnel was blown down, across several people.
"Ron!" Harry shouted, "you're alright, Ron. ”
"I'm here," Ron's muffled voice came from behind at any moment. "I'm fine, but this idiot was struck by his own magic. ”
"Phoenix wants to figure it out. ”
"There's no way, just removing the rocks could make the whole tunnel collapse, and we can only clean it up little by little, we don't have much time, let Ron do it, we have to get going." His wand didn't work, and taking him with him was just a matter of death, "Ron, you wait here, we'll keep going." ”
"Okay, be careful, I'll see if I can remove the stones," Ron tried to keep his tone calm.
"I'll see you later. ”
The two of them made one turn after another along the tunnel, and the sound of Ron moving the stones was no longer audible. At last they carefully turned a bend and found a sturdy wall in front of them, carved with these two intertwined snakes, their eyes set with large, shining emeralds.
Phoenix approached step by step, the emerald eyes seemed to flicker, and he glanced back at Harry, who nodded.
"Open. Phoenix said in a low, hoarse hiss.
The two snakes separated, and the stone wall cracked in the middle and slowly slid to both sides and disappeared.
They stood on the side of a long, dimly lit room. Many stone pillars carved with coiled snakes towered to support the ceiling that melted into the darkness, casting long black shadows on the entire room filled with green and mysterious.
They slowly walked through the stone pillars of the serpent with their wands in hand, and Phoenix walked cautiously in the shadows, making it seem like Harry was alone. After all, the possibility of a sneak attack by the enemy cannot be ruled out, which seems to be a bit of a betrayal, but in his opinion it is the best option, he does not trust Harry's magic level, and if he loses the ability to resist if he is attacked first, things will become very bad.
In fact, Phoenix didn't know the bottom of his heart, and it was not his style to rush into the enemy's lair without knowing the enemy's situation at all.
When they reached the last pair of stone pillars, a statue as tall as the room itself appeared, clinging to the dark wall behind it.
It was a huge, old-fashioned, monkey-like face, and a long, sparse beard that dragged almost all the way to the hem of a wizard's robe carved out of stone. Exactly what Slytherin himself looked like in his old age.
Beneath the statue lies a small figure in a black robe, with hair as red as flames.
