Chapter Eighty-Six: They Seem to Have a Good Conversation
Jessica Benis had breakfast and rushed to the North Las Vegas airport. There's the little plane Link helped her pack.
After a three-and-a-half-hour flight, the small plane landed in a small airport. When she stepped off the plane, a car took her to a vineyard. This put her hanging heart to rest.
Last night's assumptions were still terrible. But when she saw the vast vineyards along the road, she let go. Although she knows how stupid it is to grow grapes on this land. But this stupidity gave her a business opportunity – she probably understood why Link would say that the grapes here had downy mildew. In such a humid and rainy environment, it is no wonder that the grapes are not allowed to suffer from mold.
However, when she got out of the car and saw the diseased vines, she found that the situation was a little different from what she thought.
"Mr. Hans, is this an outbreak just discovered?" said Jessica, who came to the vineyard and inspected the vines, which were supposed to be newly planted for a short period of time. There are a lot of diseased grapes here. But it's not serious.
That's certainly a good thing for Link. But it was not good news for her, because the extent of the epidemic was much milder than she had imagined, which did not show the effectiveness of the prevention and control services she provided.
Link shook his head and said, "This downy mildew was discovered in this vineyard three months ago, and some low-toxicity pesticides were used. But recurrence is frequent. It has been four days since the disease was discovered. ”
"I think it's because of the climate. You know that molds love to multiply in humid climates. The humidity here is quite high. ”
Jessica looked very capable when she got into the working state. She plucked an infected grape leaf and pulled out a thumb-sized magnifying glass to look at the lesion.
She looked at it for a while and said, "The mycelium of the uniaxial fungus has invaded the mesophyll and veins, and the spores of this mold cannot be eradicated with pesticides." You know, the shell of the spore is a very hard thing relative to the size of the spores, and some of the shells of the spores can resist the heat of 130 degrees Fahrenheit for up to half an hour. You know, mold is also resistant to pesticides. ”
Link nodded and said, "I know this, so this time I see that the epidemic is not out of control, and I have not let the workers apply pesticides for the time being." After all, pesticides have a great impact on the environment, such as ants and natural enemies of other insects. ”
Jessica seemed a little surprised when she heard what he said: "I didn't expect Mr. Hans to be an environmental protection idear. ”
Link pulled a smile and said, "I should say I'm the one who wants to protect the grapes." I'm just dealing with bugs and mold that harm the grapes, not insects and animals that are good for the vines. If I lose them, it will cost me more to protect these grapes. ”
"It seems that Mr. Hans is a smart man. Jessica raised an eyebrow. "A lot of winery owners in California usually use those herbicides to get rid of weeds in their vineyards. They tend to forget that soil is also the basis for the survival of many insects. Without those insects, their grapes would need to use more pesticides. ”
"I've seen the video you sent me. It says you have a way to get rid of these pesky downy mildews once and for all without using pesticides?"
Jessica brushed the hair that was scattered across her face behind her ears, looked at Link and said seriously, "Mr. Hans." I think you understand that there is no such thing as a one-and-done good thing in this world. Even in a place where an atomic bomb has been bombed, it is not without grass. Any living thing evolves in the face of adversity. Of course, mold has that ability. ”
Link stared into her eyes and said, "So, your video is exaggerating. ”
"It's just an artistic rendering. Jessica wasn't ashamed. "At the very least, we can provide convenient and safe control services before uniaxial mold mutates. And we're not making a product. We are selling services. ”
Link was a little puzzled by this: "Is there any difference between the two?"
"Of course it is. Jessica held out an index finger that seemed to let in a little bit of light in the sun. "First of all, we don't use drugs. ”
Then he held out another finger and continued: "We need to continuously improve our technology to meet the requirements of our customers. This requires us to follow up with our customers for a long time. Collect up-to-date biological information on pests and diseases at any time. ”
Link frowned and said, "You mean, we're going to provide you with a lab too?"
"Nope. We have our own laboratory. However, we need to take samples regularly for analysis. See if the pathogen has developed a tolerance to our products. ”
Link looked down with a smirk and said, "Maybe I can trust you now that you do have that ability." ”
"Thank you! I don't think our company will let you down. Jessica's eyes lit up with excitement when she heard this.
Link continued: "You don't hear of any reputation in California, the heart of the American wine industry. I don't think it's because your technology and services are not good. It's that no one wants to let you do that. ”
"No, no. Mr. Hans. Jessica shook her head. "This is not the case. The truth is, the owners of the vineyards think that if they can solve the problem by renting a plane and buying some pesticides, why bother us with this expensive service. You know, our products are not the same as pesticides, we don't have government subsidies, and the production capacity is not high, and the cost is of course much higher. ”
Link listened, and said with a smile on his face, "That seems to make sense." ”
"My mom is the owner of a winery, even though she only has six acres of vineyards. I've known her for twenty-two years, and of course my dad and she have slept with for more than twenty-four years. But we worked together for two months to get her to agree to use our product. Jessica gave a good example. "That shows that wineries are not easily receptive to new concepts. ”
"She used it, and how did it work. I mean, is there any harm to other species?"
"It's not perfect, but it's better than I imagined. If you need, I can show you some of our experimental data. Of course, it refers to the report of experiments on the harmfulness of some organisms. ”
Link shook his head and said, "You know, even the president is fake, and of course all the data can be fake." ”
Jessica heard what he said, raised her eyebrows and said, "You have also watched the documentary "Obama's Lies"?"
"I saw it seven years ago. ”
"Earlier than me. You're there to watch, though. I was watching it from a video site from China. ”
"Well, I know a Chinese hacker. I watched it from him. Link thought about it for a moment, but in the end he didn't lie.
"Hacker, you have a cool friend. ”
"yes, he's cool. Although his friend's identity has not been revealed, he is wanted by the FBI, and now he does not know where to hide. He hadn't seen him online in years. I don't know if he's in jail or not. "Maybe we should move on to the virus. ”
"Good. Jessica paused and said. "Maybe I can introduce you to some videos so that you can understand our products more intuitively. ”
"Here?"
"If there was a better place, of course it would be better. ”
Link looked at the angle of the sun and said, "It's already noon." Maybe we can have lunch first and continue on this topic. ”
Unless the ingredients are not prepared, the bodyguards who follow Link here all cook and eat by themselves. Link, on the other hand, cooks himself.
It has been three days since he and his three bodyguards came to this farm. Of course, the farm will also prepare ingredients for them.
After returning to the villa, Link took a look at the ingredients sent today and made a few dishes casually.
"Is this Chinese food?" asked Jessica when she saw that there was no meal to be shared.
Link's cooking is indeed Chinese food. Since learning that more than 70% of the food sold in the American market is related to genetically modified foods, he will never go out to buy ingredients at home. The seasonings are also imported from foreign countries, although there may also be genetically modified raw materials, but they are always less than those in the United States. The ingredients are provided in-house.
Since he started cooking for himself, he has bought a few cookbooks for cooking Chinese food and watched some instructional videos on cooking. Now he's doing the same.
He brought the last dish and said, "Yes, I made it from the Chinese [country] method, and it looks very similar." But I don't think it's an authentic Chinese cuisine. ”
"It's a little different from what I've eaten in Chinatown. ”
"How many mapo tofu and kung pao chicken have you eaten?"
"Haha, of course I know that it doesn't represent Chinese cuisine. ”
Link smiled and said, "Please be seated." ”
"But I don't know how to use chopsticks. ”
"The only thing that can't be missing from eating Chinese food is the mouth, not chopsticks. So, you have no problem. Link sat down, thought for a moment and asked her. "Do you need something to drink?"
Jessica's gaze lifted from the table, looked at him and said, "You mean to say that you need Chinese liquor to eat Chinese food?"
"You want to drink liquor?" Link was stunned for a moment. "I don't have one here. Maybe next time it can be prepared for you. ”
"I mean, baijiu is too spicy for me. If it's a red wine, you can have a little bit. This chicken looks a little fatty. Red wine might help me get rid of some fat. ”
Link's eyes couldn't help but move down her face when he heard the word "fat".
"Hey!" Jessica raised an eyebrow.
"I'm sorry! I'm going to get the wine. He said as he left the table and took out a bottle of wine and two glasses in the incubator of the small bar.
