Fudge and a witch who looked like an old toad were almost the last to leave, treating most of them as background walls and nodding only to Phoenix. The witch looked at Harry with a scrutinizing eye. The last to leave was Percy, who walked up to Phoenix.
"It's a shame that you didn't do your best in your first trial. Harry's eyes lit up, "But I think the Minister understands, and I wish you a nice day." β
The corners of Phoenix's mouth curled up, not like he wanted to laugh, but instead gave people the emotion of holding back a smile. Percy understood that Phoenix didn't take his words to heart, and after reluctantly shaking his hand, he immediately left.
It wasn't until Percy disappeared into the stairs on the ninth floor that Hermione said in a surprised tone, "What's wrong with him?"
"He thinks Dumbledore is spreading rumors when he says Voldemort is back," the poor old man, almost stunned by the words, "that I'm not in my right head, and that they had a big fight with the Weasleys during the summer vacation." β
"What- he wouldn't be so stupid-"
"Then I think he is. He's going to stand with Fudge," Harry calmed down a bit, "he's loyal to the Ministry of Magic. β
Harry cursed silently.
"Let's go first. Phoenix pushed Hermione towards the elevator.
"Are you classmates?" asked the old wizard, still panting.
"Yes, but we're not from the same house. Are you?" asked Hermione, awkwardly, just noticing.
"Just call me Perkins, girl. He looked a little shy, "Can you stay with me for a while, Potter." Wait for Arthur to come back and send him back. By the way, you can have a good celebration. β
If he had known about their relationship, Perkins would not have thought that Harry would have asked him to celebrate something-
"Of course, it's nothing. Hermione said happily, "We're going to see the Ministry of Magic, and we're going to tell me how your summer vacation went." β
Harry didn't want to be with Phoenix, especially after his confrontation with Ron last school year. Ron was punished for extracting dead spider venom, and by the end of the school year, he nearly broke down.
But he didn't tell you anything all summer vacation, did he? You're good friends with him, but he won't tell you what's going onβhe thinks in his head, as he walks to the elevator.
"Okay. Phoenix glanced back at Harry in surprise. The elevator was so nice to be here, there was no one in it, just a bunch of small notes flying around in the air. He pressed the button to the second floor, and the elevator doors slammed shut.
"Excuse me, what is this?"
"Slips for the transfer of information between departments. Perkins was succinct in his words.
He shrugged and said to Hermione, "We'd better just stay in my office while Mr. Weasley picks him up." β
Harry looked ahead, pretending not to hear.
"You've just been exonerated from your crimes, Potter. I think it's better not to take you around, it will look too arrogant. β
Hermione agreed with him, seeing that Harry wasn't going to ignore Phoenix.
"Alright, don't do thatβ" She tried to keep them from being so cold, but to no avail. The elevator went straight to the second floor, and Hermione talked alone for a long time.
"All right, kid. Wait for Arthur to pick you up. With that, Perkins hunched over and walked away. They went in the other direction, and they walked through a window.
"Is this- a magic window?"
"yes, it seems to be managed by the Magic Maintenance. Phoenix explained. The hallway is flanked by room doors, and occasionally passing by a window or two.
They turned a corner, passed through two thick shimmering wooden gates, and appeared in a noisy open area divided into separate cells, filled with conversation and laughter. Small notes are moving back and forth here like miniature rockets. On top of the nearest cell hung a crooked sign that read: Auror Command.
As they passed, Hermione stole a sneaky look through the door. The walls of their cells were covered with pictures of wanted wizards and family portraits of themselves, some of which posted pictures of their favorite Quidditch teams, as well as articles from the Daily Prophet. A wizard in bright red robes was sitting cross-legged on a table, using his large quill pen to make a report, with a long ponytail on his head.
Seeing Harry Kingsley, he immediately walked up, his expression was serious, and his tone was not impolite.
"Mr. Peverell, how can you take your classmates around the Ministry of Magic at will?"
"Oh, it's not illegal, is it? Phoenix motioned for them to follow, and Harry tried to say something to Kingsley, but he glared back.
"It's not a crime, but some people inevitably break the law. He glanced at Harry, and his meaning couldn't be clearer.
"Mr. Potter, he has been proven innocent, he has no bad record. Kingsley snorted coldly and passed by them. As he passed Harry, he whispered hurriedly.
"Congratulations, I knew you'd be fine. β
Harry couldn't figure out what to say, and Kingsley went back to his cubicle.
"Is he?"
"This is not the place to talk. They walked to the right through a solemn oak gate. On both sides of the door are small bronze plaques with people's names written on them.
It was only in the depths that the name Phoenix appeared. He waved his wand in front of the door, and saw no change. Hermione was surrounded by a large number of Phoenix, and across from Phoenix was Greengrass, who reminded her of the member of the Wizengamot who had extracted Mrs. Feig's memories, and the silver-haired girl in Slytherin, also named Greengrass.
"Alright, first time. Some security measures are in place. Phoenix pushed the door open and invited them in. Harry's heart jumped as he entered, the whole room was huge, with high ceilings and three large magical windows that let in warm and pleasant sunlight, creating patches of light and shadow on the floor. Dark blue marble is covered with a carpet of flowers.
The dΓ©cor is simple, or maybe Phoenix hasn't started to add decorations to your office for the first time. There was only a gray oil painting next to the desk, there was no one in it, only a chair, probably the portrait went out to visit the door.
"Sit down. With a wave of his wand, he conjured up three chairs and a small coffee table by the window, and then a pot of tea and three teacups appeared on the coffee table.
As soon as Hermione sat down, she couldn't wait to ask.
"Which Auror are you?"
"Oh, he'sβ" Harry stopped suddenly, but the Phoenix Gang continued.
"He's a member of the Order of the Phoenix, and Auror Tonks is new to the Order of the Phoenix. Harry froze.
"What's the Order of the Phoenix?" Hermione poured hot tea over the three teacups and took a sip. "How is it herbal tea?"
"Well, hot tea is a hassle to drink, isn't it?" he took it all down, "The organization that Dumbledore founded to fight against Voldemort was very active during the last war, and it also suffered heavy losses. β
"You know!" Harry looked furious, a flash of red light flashing across his eyes.
"Yes, I helped the Order of the Phoenix with the Ministry of Magic and foreign intelligence. Hermione poured him another glass, "I didn't see you last time I went to Grimmauld Place, and now we're standing together for a common enemy." We should put aside our prejudices against each other for a while, you say?"
He held out his hand.
"Goodβgreatβ" Harry seemed angry, and he finished word by word, turning his head to look out the window. Just like in the first year, when Harry rejected Draco, he didn't answer.
