Chapter XVI: New Members

Rogge cautiously made his way to the eighth floor, standing in front of the tapestry of the troll battering the silly Barnabas. After thinking for a moment, he turned around and faced a wall. Without the slightest surprise, he took out a piece of parchment from his robe and read it carefully.

Occasionally, there were some sounds of students fighting. He slowly approached the wall, closing his eyes and muttering something over and over again. A very smooth door appeared on the wall. Rogge stared at it with an excited look on his face. He grabbed the brass handle and pulled the door open.

It was surprisingly dark inside, with only the glow of the fireplace. A roaring fire lit the room in an ornate marble fireplace, and above the fireplace was a gilded mirror. He paused in the doorway for a moment, as he adjusted to the dim light.

"You're almost late, Rogge. "Phoenix sat by the fire. Instead of wearing a school robe, he wore a vest embroidered with a phoenix. His feet rested on a large velvet cushion, half-reclining on a comfortable winged armchair. "This is our new member, Roger Pike!"

Phoenix stood up and applauded the crowd in welcome, then introduced the others one by one.

"Let's get to the point," Phoenix sat back down, his feet resting on the cushion. A few words appeared on the blackboard next to him: Silent Spell.

"Silent spells, literally, give you an advantage for a moment if you don't need to pronounce the spell out loud to cast a spell without the opponent knowing what magic you intend to cast. Not all wizards can do this, you need a lot of concentration and willpower. ”

Phoenix paused, drawing his wand. Watch as their quill brushes brush down on parchment. When they all stopped, "I'll demonstrate, Rogge." You can protect yourself by any means. ”

"Okay," he nervously raised his wand and got up and walked to the center.

Phoenix's lips didn't move, and Rog's robe suddenly caught fire, and he hurriedly extinguished it with a water charm. With a whoosh, the wand flew out of his hand, landing right on his own seat. At the same time, the flames were gone, and his robe was intact.

"Thanks, Rogge. Phoenix turned his wand nimbly with his fingers, "You see, this momentary advantage will be invisibly, based on the opponent's strong sense of oppression, and it is impossible to judge what kind of magical defense to use. While the enemy is still dealing with the danger in front of you, your next spell should be out. This accumulation is very fast, and if the opponent doesn't use silent spells or other means to limit you, you will lose within a few moves. ”

"What are the restrictions?" asked Noether curiously.

"The silent spell itself is the most basic and easy method. Neither side can judge the magic that the other will use, and the competition is the ability to adapt and the proficiency in the use of magic. ”

"A higher order," Phoenix waved his wand, and there were two lines in black and white: Neurosis and Occlumency. "Receptivity is a kind of magic that can be used to capture emotions and memories from another person's mind. Not only can the caster learn about this, but they can also tamper with memories and block your thoughts, the latter of which obviously requires a high level of magical skill. ”

"Friedhelm, come. Phoenix asked him to stand in the center, "You can say the incantation aloud, and you can recite a incantation to me." ”

"Quick prisoner-" Phoenix blocked the magic, he was stunned and tried again, "fainted-"

It was blocked again. "Good, you see. He couldn't pronounce spells at all, and even if he could silently spell, I could hack into his brain, know the spell he was going to use, and deal with it even if I couldn't stop it. ”

"It's illegal, isn't it?" asked Hermione, biting her quill.

"Noβ€”in a way, it's even legitimateβ€”" Phoenix shook his head, not going into the question, "- Occlumency is its counterpart to defensive magic, which seals the brain against magical intrusions and influences, and basic Occlumency involves clearing the mind of thoughts and emotions so that the Guardian cannot find any emotional connection to the memories that the caster intends to obscure. Simple resistance to the Regent's telekinetic attack requires similar skill to the Imperius Curse. ”

"In a more advanced form, Occlumency allows its user to suppress certain feelings and memories that are contrary to what the user of Occlumency, which the Regent wants the Mind to believe, thus allowing the Occlumencler to lie and avoid self-exposure. ”

Phoenix pauses to give them time to organize their thoughts and handwriting.

"Silent spells, dementors, and occlimency. When you master all three of these magics, your magic level will far exceed that of most wizards, making it possible for you to become a true wizard. ”

He turned his head and glanced at the time, "Now you guys work in pairs and start practicing." One person attacks and one person defends, and no one is allowed to make a sound. ”

This is not simple, watching them blushing one by one, but there is no reaction at all. Ten minutes later, everything had changed. Melinda and Hermione successfully used the Silent Spell to attack and defend, and a 'big battle' ensued.

The others didn't have the heart to practice, and they all looked at the two of them intently. If there was to be an evaluation, Hermione's response was more open and skilled. Melinda has a lot of spells, and her attacks and defenses are unpredictable.

"You should have separated them. Philip gloated.

"Possibly. He spat out a word, and it was an answer.

Hermione barely dodged a cutting spell from Melinda, and a strand of her hair was cut off. Before the two erupt in a more intense confrontation, Phoenix intervenes to stop them.

"Enough. The Iron Armor Spell separated them from each other, preventing them from continuing to attack each other. "You have to practice hard when you go back. It's late, so let's stop here today. ”

"Aren't you leaving?" Hermione saw that Phoenix didn't mean to move.

"I'm going to be late, I've been working on a new magic lately. Phoenix gently stroked Eden, who had just appeared.

"Be careful, then. ”

"Rest assured. Melinda glared at him fiercely, turned and walked away quickly.

Over the next two weeks, their homework became harder and more demanding, especially Moody's Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson. To their surprise, Professor Moody announced that he was going to take turns chanting the Imperius Curse on each of his classmates to demonstrate the magic of the spell and see if they could withstand its effects.

Moody began beckoning his classmates to take turns coming forward and reciting the Imperius Curse to them. Under the influence of the spell, the classmates made the most abnormal actions one after another. Nott jumped up and down in the classroom reciting poetry aloud, and Draco imitated a stoat. It looks like Moody is going to fix him anyway. None of them seemed to be able to resist the spell, and it was only after Moody removed the spell that it returned to normal.

"Peverell," Moody's voice rumbled, "it's your turn." ”

Phoenix stepped forward to the center of the classroom, to the clearing that Moody had just vacated by removing his desk. Moody raised his wand, pointed at Phoenix, and said, "Out of body!"

Phoenix didn't feel anything, and this level of spell wasn't enough to disturb his spirit. He shrugged and smiled at Moody, "Professor, it looks like your spell didn't work. ”

"Good, good. Moody's rumbling voice said. "Look at it, all of you - he resisted!"

He said so, but his expression was diametrically opposed. The magic eye was firmly fixed on him, and the whole person looked at Phoenix carefully, as if to make some kind of judgment.

At the end of class, Moody assures them that the effects of the spell will disappear when they eat lunch.

In the second divination class, Professor Trelawney told Phoenix that he had received high marks on his homework, which they found particularly ridiculous. She read aloud many parts of his prophecy touting the professor or saying that she was going to be unlucky. Phoenix knew from a senior that Professor Trelawney was fond of predicting death and bad luck for his students.

On the other hand, Professor Binns, the ghost who taught them the history of magic, asked them to write a paper on the eighteenth-century goblin rebellion this week, and he pushed it all to Draco, as long as they could pass it, and it was not too demanding. Professor Snape forced them to work on an antidote, and the Slytherins didn't care at all, because Professor Snape never embarrassed the people of his house. Professor Flitwick asked them to read three more books in preparation for learning the Flying Charm.

Even Hagrid added to the burden on them. Snails grow quickly, although no one knows exactly what they like to eat. Hagrid was so happy that as part of the project, he suggested that they visit his hut every other day to observe the snails and record their unusual behavior.

The notice was already posted in the foyer.

Triwizard Tournament

Representatives from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang will arrive at 6 p.m. on Friday, 30 October. The afternoon class will end half an hour earlier. At that time, students are invited to return their school bags and textbooks to the dormitory, gather in front of the castle, greet our guests, and then participate in the welcome banquet.

"It's only been a week!" said Hufflepuff Academy's Ernie McMillan, his eyes sparkling, "I don't know if Cedric knows." I'll go tell himβ€”"

"Cedric?" said Breth dismissively as Ernie hurried away. "If that idiot were to become a warrior, it would be the decline of Hogwarts. ”

Several of the older Hufflepuff students tried to rush over and beat him up, but were held back by their companions behind them.

"Well, he's very good - whoever represents Hogwarts. ”

"It's just that he can't even beat Phoenix. You have a way to sign up, right?" Daphne agreed, adding fuel to the fire.

"Thank you for attracting so many haters for me. ”
