Chapter 54: The Final Suspense
Listening to Julia Roberts's speech, Lindsay turned her head to look at Sid's side face on the stage, and couldn't help but think sweetly, "Brother Sid is also the only person in the world who can make my dreams come true." β
"Timekeeper, I see you. Julia "convulsed" again, pointing to the staff member in the audience who kept knocking on the countdown to speak, "I thank you (Soderbergh) for really making me feel so, so ...... , ahaha-"
The big mouth sister's trademark laugh waving her hands finally appeared, "I love me here!"
"Well, I'm going to be working with him (Soderbergh) again in two days, so it's not too late for me to thank him then. Julia Roberts, who was already dancing a bit, finally thanked all her family and friends, and Sid even heard a familiar name later, Emma (Roberts).
"I love the world! I'm so happy! Thank you!" Julia Roberts finally concluded with joy.
After the new actress stepped down, the host Steve Martin returned to the stage for a gag, and invited two-time actor Tom Hanks to present today's Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay.
"Next, there's Tom Hanks, who can do anything easily. β
In the midst of a burst of laughter, Tom Hanks, a handsome guy in a straight suit and a hairline, strode up.
"Since George Orwell completed Nineteen Eighty-Four, only the author of 2001: A Space Odyssey has made a year so compelling. β
"That writer, of course, is Sir Arthur C. Clarke. At 83 years old, he is the most influential science fiction writer in the universe. Clark teamed up with the late director Stanley Kubrick to bring his short story to the big screen, creating a work that will be haunted. β
Tonight, Sir Clarke will present the Best Screenplay Award in Sri Lanka in front of the famous mural on the surface of the moon in 2001. Next up is Sir Arthur Clarke. β
This is indeed a big deal, at the 2001 Oscars, the author of "2001: A Space Odyssey" was invited to present the screenplay award, no wonder this year's screenwriting award was placed after Best Actress.
Amid applause, the big screen shows the cityscape of Sri Lanka, and finally switches to Mr. Arthur C. Clarke in a wheelchair in front of a moon mural.
"Thanks, Tom. It doesn't look like it, but it's Sri Lanka, and it's 11 a.m. tomorrow in Sri Lanka. β
"It is a great honour to present the award for Best Adapted and Original Screenplay. I will award the award as soon as possible because I know how nervous the candidates are. β
Hearing the old sir's words, I originally thought that after last year's grain harvest, Sid's heart had already looked down on Oscar, but it was suddenly raised again!
Damn! This damn Oscar!
Always like the goddess of victory, exuding endless temptation.
"I've experienced this firsthand. There is a never-before-read message of thanks on behalf of Kubrick and myself. And that was already in the last century. Candidates for this century includeβ"
"Chocolate Love" is based on Joanna Harris, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is based on Wang Dulu, "Brother, Where Are You?" is based on Homer's Odyssey, "Drug Network" is based on Simon Moore's British drama "Drug Network", and "Perfect Man" is based on Michael Shabon.
The old man opened the envelope and read out the result of the "Best Adapted Screenplay Award": "And the winner of the Oscar is, Stephen Gahan "Drug Network"!"
"Drug Network" won another prize.
Stephen Gahan, who is in his thirties, did not surprisingly win this award, this is his first nomination and first award.
After hugging and shaking hands with his fellow crew members, director Soderbergh and several of the main cast members, Stephen Garhan, 36, received the little golden man from Tom Hanks, and his acceptance speech was brief but warm and sincere.
Tom Hanks smiled and said, "Next, the award for Best Original Screenplay will be awarded, and there is no need to find an excellent writer to explain this award." This is the award given to the Original Screenplay Award, and the list of nominees is as follows β "
Cameron Crowe's "Almost Famous", a film about a teenager who grows up to understand family and life on a road trip to rock 'n' roll, is an independent film released by DreamWorks.
If there's one big rival to Juno, it's this seemingly inconspicuous work, because it's the one that won the Oscar in history.
Next up is Lee Hall's "Jump Out of My World", which tells the inspirational story of a young boy who finally overcomes poverty and prejudice and realizes his dreams with his persistent love for ballet.
In the middle are the scripts for Suzanne Grant's "Never Compromise" and John Logan, David Franzoni, and Ridley Scott's "Gladiator".
As for the last, of course, "Sid, Juno." β
Amid cheers and applause, photos of Sid's youth and excerpts from "Juno" appeared on the big screen, and the hearts of Sid and the crew members of "Juno" were immediately lifted.
Although "Juno" was nominated for four awards (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay), everyone knows that in the face of fierce competition and the shortcomings of being too young (Sid and Lindsay).
What is really competitive about "Juno" is the script award!
But Sid just won the award two years ago with "Little Sunshine Beauty", a record 18 years old.
Just two years later, Sid won the "Best Original Screenplay" award again?
Not to mention others, even Sid himself felt that there was little hope. You must know that in history, Matt Damon, who won the Olympic Award at the age of 28, only stepped on the Oscar podium 10 years later!
Tom Hanks opened the envelope and pulled out the thin piece of paper, and all the candidates felt a dry run in their throats.
"And the winner of the Oscar isβ" Tom Hanks spoke at a brisk pace, as if to end the fight before all the chosen ones could react.
"Cameron Crowe, 'Almost Famous'!"
The cheers on the ground shook the entire theater, and Cameron Crowe, who was still in a trance, couldn't believe that he had defeated a group of strong opponents and won the "Best Original Screenplay Award".
And Sid couldn't help but take a deep breath, Lindsay on the side couldn't help but grab his hand, Sid turned his head and smiled at Xiao Nizi, signaling that he was okay.
Then he smiled and applauded as everyone congratulated the new best original screenwriter, Cameron Crowe.
