Chapter 46 Chapter 1 The Vampire's Homeland
The follow-up promotion of "Schindler's List" Wang Jie was completely handed over to Spielberg and the distribution departments of Disney, United States, and Fox, while he continued to shoot "Tales of the Night" in an orderly manner.
In order to complete the action scenes in the film well, Wang Jie specially found Cheng Xiaodong as the action director of the movie, the reason why he did not find DreamWorks Yuan Kui, Dong Wei and other action directors, on the one hand, they are busy with the shooting of other movies, on the other hand, Wang Jie hopes that the fighting actions in the movie will be gorgeous and elegant, which Cheng Xiaodong is good at. Kate Beckinsale also had to learn to adapt to the intricacies of the hook stunt, and in the film, there was a shot of Serena leaping up and shooting a werewolf while doing a somersault, which Beckinsale did in just two seconds, and even a little bit more than enough.
In order to present the unique world in the film, Wang Jie decided to shoot the rest of the scenes in Eastern Europe, and Budapest, the capital of Hungary, was the ideal choice. Wang Jie feels that Budapest has a long history and vicissitudes of life, and has a strong ancient atmosphere, while Transylvania, the birthplace of vampires and werewolves, once belonged to Hungary, and the mysterious connection between Budapest and the film is more of a topic of discussion in publicity.
The origin of the legend of blood-sucking creatures can be traced back thousands of years, and in the myths and legends of the early Mesopotamian civilization, the ancient Hebrew civilization, the ancient Roman civilization, etc., there are devils who suck the essence of human beings. However, the creation of the image of vampires in the true modern sense mainly came from the compilation and publication of oral folklore in Eastern Europe in the 18th century.
In these legends, a vampire refers to a corpse that is able to crawl out of a grave and suck blood after death. Under the conditions of underdeveloped medical treatment, some people who did not really die, but were only in shock, were buried, and then when they woke up or were resurrected, they moved again, and were regarded as immortal beings. During the Black Death epidemic in Europe, the fear of the continued activity of the dead was created in situations of extreme panic, hence the legend of German vampires like Nitat, who had the ability to spread the Black Death. What made the modern vampire was a vampire novel written by Bram Stoke called Dracula, the Count of Vampires. At the time, Bram Stoker was preparing to write the novel, but while researching the materials, he stumbled upon the name of the archduke, which meant demonic meaning, and later named the novel.
The novel was later adapted into the movie "400 Years of Horror", which was produced and distributed by Wang Jie's Lianmei Pictures, and the producer was Shirley Lansing herself.
In European history, there is indeed a person named Dracula. Historically, Dracula's full name (pronounced in Romanian) was Vlad Zebes Dracula. He was born in 1431 in the city of Sikischa, present-day Romania. His father, Vlad Tagul, was then accepted as a member of the "Dragon Knights" and was appointed by King Chichmon of Romania as the governor of Sichuan Sofania. According to the Romanian analysis, "Tagul" comes from the meaning of "dragon", which means to be included in the honor of being a dragon knight, and "Dracula" is "son of the dragon". Later, the Romanians associated the word with "demon", which was influenced by the language of the Saxons in southern Germany who were in Romania at the time. These Saxons fled in Romania and behaved in disorder, and were punished with the most severe punishment by Dracula, so they were privately called so. At that time, the Order of the Dragon Knights had a sacred status, created by the Holy Roman Emperor in present-day Germany, with the aim of allegiance to the Holy See and to save Catholics from persecution in Turkey. Dracula was a brave warrior throughout his reign, fighting valiantly against the invading Ottoman Turkish army. He had twice defeated the enemy and was killed on the battlefield. Dracula's military exploits were so successful that he was regarded by Romanians as a national hero who fought against foreign enemies. However, Dracula was extremely brutal, and whenever he captured a captive, he had to be stabbed (that is, standing in the soil with sharpened wooden stakes, piercing the tip of the enemy, and bleeding to death), so he became infamous as the "King of Piercing, Vlad". Perhaps because of Dracula's brutality, he eventually fused with the legendary vampire. Ironically, Dracula's best use of stabbing is his fatal wound in Stoker's novel. Of course, Dracula is just the most famous vampire, he is not the first vampire. In myths and legends, vampires have been around for a long time. But he was the first modern vampire, a radical departure from the image of the beastly monster of the more ancient stories that preceded him.
From the very beginning, Wang Jie hoped that the vampires and werewolves in this film would be different from the stiff and ugly monsters created by makeup techniques in other films. For this reason, Wang Jie used a lot of CG technology, which also made the cost of "Legend of the Night" reach more than 40 million US dollars, and Wang Jie is not sure whether he can recover the cost in the future, after all, the box office after the release of the original version has not exceeded 100 million, but even if he loses money, Wang Jie doesn't care, after all, with his net worth today, a loss of tens of millions of US dollars is just a drop in the dime.
On July 1, Wang Jie came to Budapest, the capital of Hungary, after two or three years of turmoil, Eastern Europe has calmed down at this time, but for the safety of the crew, Wang Jie still brought more than 20 bodyguards.
Budapest is located on the banks of the Danube River. Here the Danube leaves the mountains of central Hungary and enters the Great Hungarian Plain. The highest point in Budapest is 527 meters high. Geologically Budapest is located right on a fault, so Buda has many hot springs.
After the crew arrived at their destination, Wang Jie gave all the cast and crew two days off, and he took Kate Beckinsale to relax happily for two days, during which the two visited many beautiful and charming scenic spots, and also participated in a local custom activity. When the filming of "Tales of the Night" began, everyone was still a little unsatisfied.
There are two main places where Wang Jie filmed, namely Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion. Matthias Church is a unique building in the city of Buda. As Hugo described it, the Matthias is a "symphony of stones". It abandons the symmetrical structure of traditional Gothic architecture, and builds a high bell tower in the corner of the church, which makes the whole building suddenly light, and less heavy and restrained than other churches. The coronation ceremonies of successive Hungarian kings were held here, so it is also known as the "Coronation Church". The Fisherman's Fort was built in 1905 as a fish market and was later built by fishermen to protect their interests. The Fisherman's Bastion is surrounded by beautiful surroundings and has a bird's-eye view of the whole city of Budapest. Today, Fisherman's Bastion is an important place for Budapest citizens to take a leisurely stroll after dinner, especially for couples. Someone once did a survey and concluded that young people have the highest percentage of first kisses here.
Wang Jie filmed in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, for more than 20 days, and did not return to Los Angeles until July 22, and filmed in Burbank for more than ten days.
