Chapter 104: Music Sound Effects

At the same time as the color grading work, the Industrial Light & Magic in San Francisco and the Macguff studio in France also received the footage after Sid and their finished editing and color grading, and then began to create special effects shots.

Compared with the complicated visual effects of as many as 4 special effects directors in "Star Wars Episode 2", the special effects shots of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" are relatively simple, because the story of this film still takes place in the atmosphere after all.

So Sid asked ILM for two VFX Supervisors to help, and Macguff Studios invested all its manpower and resources to prioritize the Harry Potter project.

But on the other hand, Sid's "Harry Potter" requires more detailed polishing in details, especially like the three-headed vicious dog in this film, the ogre who makes trouble at Hogwarts, and the final maze of the duel wizard chess.

Sid was not satisfied with the original Chris Columbus version, because whether it was the slightly rough three-headed dog and ogre in the original version, or the wizard chess duel that seemed to have no tension in the finished film, Sid was very dissatisfied.

The three-headed dog and ogre produced by CGI in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" are compared to the contemporaries of "The Matrix 2", "Star Wars Episode 2" and "The Lord of the Rings 1", and it is difficult for Sid to believe that they are the same works of the same period.

Especially when Peter Jackson created the mesmerizing "Middle-earth" in New Zealand, Sid knew that he could not let "Harry Potter" really become just a children's movie.

Therefore, the pure CGI monsters and characters in the film, Sid were all handed over to the special effects team of Industrial Light and Magic on the basis of green screen shooting, and Sid was also submitted to the strict requirements of Sid.

It is said that the three special effects directors of Industrial Light and Magic couldn't help but be disgusted when they saw Sid's request, and the requirements for ogres and three-headed dogs in different states can be described as extremely detailed. Even in Star Wars Prequel, there were only a few special shots that used such a high level of CGI accuracy.

As for the scene of the Wizard Chess showdown, Sid decided to use CGI to make the chess pieces instead of a physical model like the original at the time of filming.

Because of the way the physical model moves, it is difficult to achieve the expressive tension in Sid's design, that is, Sid is absolutely unacceptable to move the chess pieces slowly like the original.

So when filming this section, the special effects artist of Industrial Light & Magic only made the sponge chess pieces wrapped in green cloth, and then the three little protagonists sat on it to perform.

The movement of the chess pieces has also been changed to a fast and then slow way of progress, and the action of the chess pieces during the battle has also been changed to a slow and then fast way at Sid's request, and the moves are solemn and lightning-like, which is very ornamental.

Under such changes, the spectacle and tension of this wizarding chess duel have finally been raised, especially the scene where Ron sacrifices himself for Harry at the end.

Under the cold glow of the knight's sword, Ron's small body falling into the dust, and Hermione's tears seemed to make the scene look moving.

This change also allowed Sid to reaffirm an important principle - never let your film lose its tension, otherwise it would be the beginning of a slow suicide!

After spending a month editing and grading the work one after another, the sound adjustments went quite smoothly because of the synchronization, and Sid's focus finally shifted to the music.

"Mr. Leon, this is ......," the director of Universal Studios Music Studio warmly introduced Sid.

"Ms. Celine Dion. Sid smiled and preemptively said.

Standing opposite Sid is Celine Dion, one of the four divas of the 90s, since she sang the theme song "My-Heart-ill-Go-On" of "Titanic" a few years ago, Celine Dion has become more and more connected with the film industry.

This time, the theme song of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" "The-Boy-ho-Lived", Sid also decided to be sung by this singer genius, and the lyrics of this theme song did not look for Fire Lion Records, because a group of producers led by Max are in charge of making pop music.

But if you want to have the theme song of the movie and the corresponding soundtrack, you still have to find a professional soundtrack company in Hollywood to be really professional. And the theme song "The-Boy-ho-Lived" even invited James Horner and Will Jenin, who composed "My-Heart-ill-Go-On" (Titanic).

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Dion. Sid smiled and stretched out his hand.

Compared with several other post-90s music divas and big names, Celine Dion can be regarded as the most approachable among them.

"Hello, you can just call me Celine. Celine Dion is really as down-to-earth as the legend, she also said with a smile.

"Then please call me Sid, too. Sid said with a grin.

"Very well, Sid. Celine Dion is not a pretentious person, and when she heard Sid's words, she immediately greeted Sid generously.

"Oh, by the way, I have a CD, could you please sign it?" Sid pulled out an open CD from behind him, which was the album of Celine Dion's "My-Heart-ill-Go-On".

"Oh, you're a fan of mine too?" said Celine Dion with some surprise.

"Not a fan, but I do love Titanic. Sid smiled and shrugged.

"Hey, you're really 'honest' kid. Celine Dion said with a smile, and it didn't seem that he cared because of Sid's outspokenness.

"That's because I know that Miss Celine, you have a big heart and a big heart, and you definitely won't mind. Sid's grinning appearance made Celine Dion laugh heartily.

She patted Sid on the shoulder without smugness and smiled, "I really didn't expect Sid Leon to actually slap people's ass." ”

"It depends on who it is, I don't have much interest in ordinary people. Sid laughed too.

Just as the two big names were greeting, the studio staff had just finished their preparations, and then Celine Dion entered the studio and began recording.

And she also let Sid see the diva-level skills face-to-face for the first time, Sid had heard of the Asian diva Wang Fei singing the theme song for "Final Fantasy 8" for only a few days in his previous life. And Celine Dion also lived up to being one of the four divas, and it only took two days for the theme song to be recorded.

This can't help but surprise Sid and others, but also have to admire the strength of this older generation of top singers.

Under this progress, the music and sound effects of "Harry Potter" are progressing quite smoothly, especially the sound effects part that was carried out at the same time as the color grading, which has been completed about half of it simultaneously. Sid watched the whole film again, and adjusted the music and sound effects.

The finished film effect of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" has finally begun to take shape little by little.
