Chapter.0 Asterlei: Drifting Bottle
"Human beings have always been able to work miracles in desperate situations. Pen @ fun @ pavilion wWw. ο½ο½ο½Uο½Eγ info I've always thought that this sentence is nonsense. Many times, opportunities come to you on their own, not by people. All we did was seize the opportunity at great cost, and then it turned into a miracle. Like a drifting bottle thrown into the sea, we look forward to the day when it will be picked up. Luckily, it did get picked up. βRamia Peters
Rio, Brazil, 2033
The "buzzing" sound of the old electric fan, mixed with the occasional electromagnetic noise of the communicator, reached Astre's auditory nerves. This, combined with the scorching sun, made Astre and his accomplices irritable. It's a miracle that there is still a mercenary group operating in this dilapidated slum.
However, no one in the world today is thinking about air conditioning and money. Astre thought. Since the events of Beilan Island in 2030, all the inhabitants of the world have been terrified for survival and have prayed feebly to see tomorrow. Collapse liquid, just saying this term, can make people tremble uncontrollably. This requisite is expanding his territory into the world at an astonishing rate, contaminated by radiation everywhere he goes, and death is written on every inch of the contaminated land.
Naturally, Astre had never seen what the contaminated area was like, and he would rather never see it in his life. And his immediate boss, Hogg, the head of the mercenary group, is trying to avoid radiation infection, and all the money of the mercenary group is used to find a way to resist the collapse fluid.
Live, people all over the world want to live, when disaster strikes.
"Captain, come and see this. The militia sitting in front of the computer beckoned to the regimental commander, and the chair moved back to make way for some space.
The big man, who was lying lazily on the back chair, sat up, got up and walked to the side of the militia, and approached the screen. Asterey leaned over as well.
One order, hefty price.
"I told you we wouldn't take orders, Salted Fish. β
"But sir, his content may be what we're looking for. β
Steal information from the Antarctic expedition team of Jonas and Dr. Deming Li about the ruins. This is the only thing Astre understands in this order.
"Jonas and Deming, who are they?" Hogg asked, lighting a cigar.
"I don't know. Asterley shook his head.
"Oh hell," Hogg sucked hard, "he said the ruins, when we don't know anything, it must have something to do with the collapse fluid, thanks to the bastard." β
I probably thought we were all mentally retarded people lying in the slums. Astre thought. Then you really have to wonder if the employer sent the email by mistake.
Hogg extinguished the cigarette butt and shouted into the walkie-talkie, "Cupid, your dad is leaving." I'll give you a message, fifteen minutes to prepare the plane to the South Pole. After that, Hogg glanced at the people in the dirt house and patted Asterley on the shoulder.
"Five minutes, pack your way to Antarctica. β
"Sir, just the two of us?"
"Little ghost, God said 'steal', isn't it possible that you are going to take a hundred minions to break into that wasteland that is pure ice cubes?"
Asterley sighed helplessly.
About five hours later, Asterley arrived at the South Pole in a helicopter.
At the South Pole, which is the polar day, the snow on the ground reflects the intense rays from the sun. To prevent snow blindness, both Hogg and Astre wear goggles.
"Sir, look at that. "The speed of the helicopter slowed down slowly. Astre looked out and saw the huge curved structure come into view, the pure white of which blended in with the snow.
"That's the target building," Hogg flicked off his cigarette butt and picked up his gear, "I want you to pass by as naturally as a passing helicopter, Cupid, and fly as close to the ground as possible." β
"Understand, whatever the leader says, is what it is. β
"Astre, listen to me. β
Astre stood next to the hatch and waited. The helicopter made a turn at a constant speed and flew past the entrance to what appeared to be a dome, facing the glacier.
"Jump!" Hogg commanded, and Astre reflexively jumped out of the helicopter and plunged into the soft snow. He got up and pulled out a muffler-mounted ump45 submachine gun from behind him, the best weapon Hogg could get his hands on.
"Confirm the surrounding situation and find no threat. Astre reported.
"It may not be good," Hogge gestured forward, stealing with his gun in hand, "God knows how many years this big eggshell has been built, and how hard it is. β
At least eight years or more. Astre thought, following Hogg slowly.
"Stop, there are guards. Hogg fell to the ground, observing the situation through the holoscope.
"Lady Luck is on us," Hogg said, "that's the entrance, and there can be no mistake." Asterlei,
Take out one guard, and I'll kill the other at the same time. β
Astre clenched his grip and smoothly lifted the gun, resting the butt on his shoulder, adjusting his breathing and placing his crosshair on the guard on his left.
With a muffled sound, the bullet hit the guard in the head, killing him with a single blow, and the other guard fell in response.
"Beautiful, that's why I brought you. β
If he had a choice, Asteret would rather not come.
The two quickly walked across the snow and walked to the corpse to search for it. They had to move quickly, before anyone else found the body. Astrey found an access card from the corpse's jacket pocket and opened the door with a "drop".
Hogg and Asterley entered the dome one after the other, and the intricate walkways made Asterley dizzy for a moment. He followed Hogg, unsuspecting whether Hogg knew the way.
"It looks like they're putting too much faith in the building's defenses," Hogg said, "and there's no patrolling guards at all." β
"Where's the camera? Isn't there surveillance here?"
"Of course it's everywhere," Hogg said as he approached a lift, pressing the down button, "but we have the guilt, and our employer will do whatever it takes to make this operation a success...... Let his wishful thinking succeed. Oh, and the elevator arrived. β
The moment the elevator doors opened, Asterley was stunned. Looking out of the window of the sightseeing elevator, a huge pit comes into view, filled with all kinds of instruments and devices that have never been seen before. At least 10,000 people are working in the pits, all over the corner, and they seem to be digging for something, taking samples and studying it.
"See?" Hogg pointed to a glass room where he could make out how many computers were inside, "It's obvious where the Doctors organize and store their information. β
Astre nodded, signaling that he had seen it.
"Alright, the elevator is almost here," Hogg crouched down, "Hide, as soon as the elevator door opens, rush out to see if there's anyone." Kill anyone as soon as they find it. β
Astre glanced at Hogg, and the veteran's expression was calm, as if he was not in the slightest concerned about the impending difficulties. Astre even suspected that the front was where they were buried.
The button goes off, and after a beep, the elevator doors open. Astre and Hogg turned around and rushed out of the elevator almost at the same time, one on the left and one on the right.
"Luckily, no one. Okay, follow me, we're going to touch it one step at a time. β
Astre tried to keep his feet as light as he could, while keeping close to Hogg. The excavation site to the left of Asterei was innumerably staffed, and he looked over there from time to time for fear that any one would spot them.
"Calm down, make sure you make sure you're in good shape before you shoot," Hogg said, his UMP45 still focused on the front, "Blindly firing will only expose us faster." β
They crossed the walkway next to the excavation site and quickly ran into the shadows behind the warehouse, dodging two patrols. They then climbed onto the scaffolding that held the rock wall in place, climbed sideways all the way to the glass house, and waited for the patrolling guards to circle around again and pass the glass house before jumping off the scaffolding.
Astre pried open the door of the glass room, and it was empty. Hogg walked over to the computer, took out two USB sticks, and copied everything he could see, regardless of thirty-seven twenty-one.
"It takes a little time to copy the material. Astre, keep the gates. β
There was no sign of anyone coming. Astre leaned against the door, every cell in his body tensed. The loud noise of the machinery and instruments of the excavation site completely hindered Astre's hearing, and he was afraid that he could not hear the sound of footsteps that were close at hand.
"Three minutes. Hogg chime, his hands darling to manipulate the keyboard.
Oh, three minutes, three more minutes to say goodbye to this place. It was as if Astre had seen the sun.
Suddenly, the door opened. A female researcher walked into the glass room and turned her head to find him.
"Hell!" Astre quickly covered the woman's mouth and pressed her against the wall, aiming at her lower abdomen and pulling the trigger while preventing her from breaking free. Blood splattered Asterre's body, and at the same time, his self-esteem was tainted. He slowly puts the woman down and feels guilty for killing unarmed civilians.
"It's in hand, let's get out of here. Hogg said, tucking the USB stick into his pocket.
The dying woman grabbed Astre's ankle and said something in a faint voice. Asterley held his breath and listened.
"Can't...... Let...... Information...... Leaked ...... He ......" "Bang!"
The woman's brains splashed Asterre's face, making him sick and frightened. Hogg was expressionless, still calmly, "You should have known her so that she wouldn't have begged you so painfully." β
Astre didn't speak, and he couldn't do anything but follow Hogg in a drowsy head.
The two of them, as when they came, made their way to the elevator and went upstairs, bypassing the patrolling guards, and leaving the dome building. They quickly found Cupid's helicopter outside.
"Hey, you didn't find it, did you?" Cupid opened a bag of snacks, "I just came back from a circle and found a lot of heavy firepower behind me. β
"Let's take off before they even notice us. β
"Well, I'll answer you as you would. β
The helicopter lifted up the snow and fog and slowly lifted into the air. Astre looked back and saw that the Empty Rocket had been activated and was turning to aim at them, but the helicopter was quickly out of range.
"So where are we going now? β
"To the northeast, near the Stonefield offshore rig, there will be a freighter to pick us up. β
While Astre pondered what he should eat for dinner, the helicopter flew over ********, and the freighter at ten o'clock gave them a flashing signal, and Cupid complained about shaking his eyes.
Soon, the helicopter landed at the designated place, and they were greeted by armed personnel of four detachments, all with real guns. Hogg frowned, jumped out of the helicopter, and walked over to a man in a suit. Astre was close behind.
"Sir, are you looking for the wrong person?" Hogg lit a cigar and gulped in front of the man in the suit, "You're looking for a special forces, not a mercenary group rotting in the slums." β
"But you've done what I've been assigned, haven't you? The man in the suit said with a smile as he held out his hand.
Hogg took a puff of his cigarette, took a red USB stick from his jacket pocket, and placed it in the other man's hand.
"Very well, I'll check the contents now. Your reward is in the cabin, and my men will take you there. β
"I hope so. Hogg said, and without waiting for the soldiers leading the way, he walked to the cabin himself. Asterley didn't have to do anything, just followed all the way. The two followed the soldiers to the cabin, when an explosion was heard from the deck.
"What sound?"
"Damn, they did it too soon......" the soldier scolded in a low voice.
Before Astre could ask what was going on, Hogg drew his dagger and stabbed the soldier to death.
"Astre, throw the crate out," Hogg said, tossing the cigarette butt to the ground, "the man is going to kill us." β
"Why?"
"It doesn't matter why, just know that he's going to kill us. β
Astre lifted the unopened box and felt heavy. He guessed it was a bomb, and the bill was probably not that heavy.
The moment he quietly threw the box out, Astre saw their helicopter dipped in flames.
"Boy," Hogg tossed the fallen soldier's rifle over, "I can't guarantee if I will survive or not. β
Astre leaned against the wall, and Hogg threw a smoke grenade outside, and a steady stream of gunfire rang out in the cabin. Astre could feel the bullets flying past the gun. The enemy wanted to suppress them by fire, not let them leave the cabin, and then advance step by step.
Sitting back and waiting is not in line with their character. Seeing this, Hogg decisively lay down and crawled forward, and fired a few shots from the pistol in his hand into the smoke, and the movement in the cabin was much smaller.
"Let's see if the lifeboat still works. Hogg said and fired another shot into the smoke. Asterley shot the enemy out of the doorway, dodged out of the cabin, and fired from the bow of the ship from his kneeling position. The three grinister soldiers collided and fell in a pool of blood.
Withdrawing his magazine, Astre guarded the direction of the bow of the ship, and after taking out a few miscellaneous pieces that tried to charge, the enemy's offensive weakened.
"It's broken. Lifebuoys, lifeboats, none of them work. Hogg calmly recounted the bad news.
The only way to survive is to kill all the enemies on board. The two immediately turned to the stern of the ship, and the next step of the crossfire was advanced. The enemy's offensive was much weaker, and there were no pursuers in the bow direction. Neither of them noticed the anomaly until several helicopters flew over their heads.
"They're evacuating," Hogg said, lighting the last of his cigars, "these cowards want to blow up the whole ship, and they don't dare to die with us." β
"There is also a helicopter in the stern. Before saying this, Asterley had already killed the pilot of the helicopter. Without saying a word, Hogg shot and killed the soldier who was preparing to counterattack, and then, under the cover of Astre, approached the helicopter.
The last enemy fell, and Hogg jumped into the helicopter and waved for Astre to come up and pilot. Astre put away his gun and ran to the cockpit, only to find that the enemy helicopter was slowly turning.
"Missiles are coming!" Asterley shouted, lying on his stomach. The missile flew out from under the helicopter's wing and headed straight for Hogg, flooding the stern with a loud thud.
The smoke blocked Astre's vision, blocking his airways and causing him to cough. In the confusion, he touched the viscous liquid, raised his hand to take a closer look, and it turned out to be blood.
It wasn't his, he didn't feel pain. Astre crawled through the trail of blood and found Hogg lying on the ground. Hogg's mouth was covered in blood, and the impact of the explosion broke his spine.
"I'm sorry, Astre ......"
Astre held his hand, looking like he was going to die.
"Take it......" Hogg pulled out a USB stick from his jacket pocket, "find a way...... Spread the ......"
Astre reached for it. It was a blue USB stick, which he had seen many times, and each time it was plugged into Hogg's personal computer. Closing the captain's eyes, he walked to the container marked with the bottle logo and smashed the lock with the butt of his gun.
I don't know how long it will take to detonate the bomb, I have to hurry. Asterley casually opened the cardboard box, took a glass bottle, and threw the USB flash drive into it. It was the only way he could think of it.
With the greatest strength of his life, the glass bottle crossed a parabola and fell into the sea.
The flames engulfed Astre.
