Chapter 12: The Night Watch

The Community Kingdom of Free Will is at 22:17 local time

Snow-white skin, bright silver hair, and a dreamy veil of moonlight are enough to be intoxicating. The sleeping girl is like a fairy tale turned into reality, and when her name is called, it is as if she is in the palace of heaven, and the newborn goddess sleeps, waiting for the dawn to rise.

Reluctantly, Mondstadt closed the curtains and covered her with a quilt so that she could get a good night's sleep.

Mondstadt even resented the fact that he was working day and night, and the heavy workload weighed on his fragile body. However, he couldn't resent the man who started it all, because he had given a choice, and Jeffrey had the right to refuseโ€”the status quo was the result of her choiceโ€”and in the end he could only resent himself and couldn't help much.

Mondstadt took one last look back to make sure that Jefti hadn't been woken up, and quietly exited the room.

"Has Her Majesty fallen asleep?" asked a voice by the window as soon as the door was closed.

What is she doing here?Mondstadt wondered, he couldn't trust anyone here, let alone an iron-blooded humanoid who was clearly dead.

"Yes, don't worry. Mondstadt replied as usual, and then asked, "Is there anything wrong with you?"

"It's okay, just ask~"

It was this frivolous and casual tone that made Mondstadt tremble from the bottom of his heart. She was like a poisonous snake that spit letters, and though she was now tamed, she was still full of black water, and she didn't know when she would bite againโ€”at least that's what Mondstadt thought.

"Thank you for your concern. Mondstadt continued to disguise, speaking against his will.

"Then again," the adjudicator looked out the window, "from your human point of view, isn't that too much responsibility for her age?"

โ€œ......โ€

"It's really worrying~ No one wants to see Her Majesty fall from overwork, right~"

The adjudicator sighed.

"Well, of course ......"

"She can't afford to be bothered by anything else," the adjudicator said, "and will Lord Mondstadt, as a Knight of the Guard, be willing to share a little of the burden for her?"

"Do you need to ask?"

Mondstadt blurted out, not in a loud voice, but full of his true thoughts. This is different from the way he spoke before, the difference is very obvious.

Realizing this, Mondstadt looked at the adjudicator, who smiled triumphantly with the corners of his mouth raised.

"Sure enough, it's a reliable knight," she threw an old-fashioned communicator at him, "Please listen carefully~"

Mondstadt grabbed the communicator and leaned into his ear, hearing the cold voice of a mechanical woman.

"This is Fran, the central AI of the Free Nation," the AI recounted unhurriedly, "Your Highness Mondstadt, ten minutes ago I discovered in the national security surveillance system that a special forces suspected of Luo Lian had invaded our territory. โ€

"What did you say?!"

"In my judgment, it is very likely that this unit is an infiltrated unit that has been transferred to quickly hijack Her Majesty, so I am considering the investigation as a priority. โ€

Luo Lian's Special Forces ...... Did you end up betting all on this force, or did you not intend to win on a frontal battlefield from the start?

"Why are you telling me this?"

"Miss Adjudicator suggests that such information which threatens Her Majesty's personal safety should be reported to you, and after a brief assessment, I consider it necessary to do so. โ€

Mondstadt looked at the adjudicator once more.

"Your Highness Mondstadt," Fran continued, "are you going to be involved in the investigation? I have to warn you that this operation is quite risky. โ€

"I know, but I'll go anyway. โ€

"Then, please join the rest of the participants. โ€

Once the communication was complete, Mondstadt handed the communicator back to the adjudicator and prepared to leave.

"Mondstadt," said the adjudicator, "it would be better for you to be honest, for it is not at all right for you to disguise your thoughts. โ€

โ€œ......โ€

"Well, then, I wish you good luck. The adjudicator saluted and walked into the darkness.

One by one, the street lamps streaked by, and the country where nothing had happened remained calm under the night. There is very little traffic on the road, but not to the point where there are no cars.

Even so, Mondstadt's car was still speeding away, and its speed had already violated the traffic rules. That's all he can do, that's all, so he's going to give it his all.

An hour later, Mondstadt reached the countryside on the southern border and got off the bus near the target location. After that, he was instructed to climb a hill and join the members of the operation.

"It's been a long time, why don't you start yet. A gray-haired girl grumbled, apparently impatiently waiting.

Unsurprisingly, it was the tactical humanoid that was waiting for Mondstadt.

"There's no way around it, isn't it?" said the other figure, unlike his companion in a black coat, the particularly short figure was completely obedient to the arrangement, "The sudden announcement that there was a new person to be added, and all command authority was handed over, probably the top paid attention to it." โ€

"Not necessarily, it's not a good thing to make last-minute changes for a long time. โ€

"Sorry to interrupt. Mondstadt came behind the two young girls.

"Hmm!" The gray-haired girl was startled, and quickly turned around and set up a posture to fight, "Who is it?!"

"Stupid, sir!" said the other girl, quickly straightening her police hat on her head.

Mondstadt couldn't help but laugh at the cute actions of the girls.

"No, I'm so sorry!

"No, it's okay......"

"Super Shorty, Ump40 reports to you, sir!"

Mondstadt looked at the two tactical figures slightly, and the information provided to him by Fran explained them in detail, and they were actually recognizable by their names alone.

"Hmm...... Didn't you say there were three of them?" he asked.

"The G28 is already in place ahead of schedule. The super elf replied, "G28, here comes the sir." โ€

"Hello sir, I'm G28," a humanoid voice sounded over the communicator, "taking on the role of Sniper." Allow me to take the liberty of asking, have you ever had any experience in indoor close-quarters combat before?"

"Yes, yes, I used to be a member of the Antarctic Federation's TASA force, but I wasn't very experienced. โ€

"TASA, I'M RELIEVED," G28 LAUGHED, "PLEASE." โ€

Mondstadt holds up the binoculars and observes the target building.

"So this country house is the hideout of the Luo Lian special forces?"

"Based on the intelligence provided, there can be no mistake," Superdwarf reported to him, "and the G28 also witnessed the occupants of the house possessing firearms. โ€

"What about the enemy's counter-reconnaissance?"

"Every fifteen minutes I will be watching from the window," replied the ump40, "there is no drone warning." โ€

"Okay, then the action begins. โ€

Mondstadt said, grabbing the "Reckless" miniature submachine gun that hung from his waist. This Antarctic Army-standard weapon is his old buddy, and tonight it will be sipping blood for the first time in a long time.

The chirping of insects in early spring came to an abrupt end.
