Chapter 53: Artemis (1)

The vast far side of the moon is covered with strange white mist on the lunar sea, shrouded in huge "craters" that do not obstruct the view. The transport plane was guided by the drone and landed on the lunar fortress and Artemis.

The fortress sits atop a ruin that, after the upheaval of Earth, moved to the moon in search of a race that Patrick had previously known. They failed, and for unknown reasons, only technology and architecture were left here that were more distant than antiquity.

At first glance, Artemis looks like a piece of silver embedded in a huge crater, and the crescent-shaped building is supposed to be the most densely populated place, occupying about a third of the area, adjacent to the tarmac. Among them, a tower rises from the building, facing the center of the crater, while the topmost area also houses gas collectors and gas storage tanks, hidden in inverted funnels, and there appears to be a more complex system further underground.

To the right of the Crescent Moon (so called) are rows of domino-like objects, the side facing away from the area is covered with a reflective substance, and these walls separate the area from a cauldron in the center. The object in the center of the crater, Patrick had an indescribable disgust, it was an extremely dangerous thing, and just staring at it would trigger an instinctive fear in his heart. It was indeed a silvery-white cauldron, with several protruding horns around the edge, spreading outward, and the tip was about ten meters above the edge of the silver cauldron.

The most impressive part of the fortress is the ring directly above it, which is a circle of light supported by a slender crystal rod erected from the crater, which is exactly a concentric circle with the silver pot.

The bad premonition intensified, but Patrick didn't know exactly what to threaten, perhaps it had something to do with his sick state.

As the transport plane landed, they lost the opportunity to continue to see Artemis in its entirety, and now they could only take one step at a time.

The hatch fell, Patrick and the G41 stepped off the transport plane, the fortress's emergency squad was already in place, and a team of people had prepared stretchers and medical supplies for emergency treatment of patients. The head of the rescue flew towards Patrick, saluted him, and stopped in front of him.

"Comrade, how is your situation? If necessary, seek medical attention immediately, and it doesn't matter if the report is submitted later. The person in charge asked.

"No, we're fine. Patrick shook his head, fortunately they were wearing Southern Union uniforms, and they were mistaken for their own people.

"Anyone else?"

"No, we survived the disintegration of the space station," Patrick shrugged, "I don't think anyone will be as lucky as we are." ”

"Really...... It's a shame. The person in charge recorded on his tablet, "You come with me, I will take you to the meeting place, and you must be purified before you can enter the Artemis ......"

He glanced at the G41 and hesitated.

"Comrade, aren't you soldiers?"

"It's not. Patrick replied.

"I think so, there are no more options in a life-or-death situation, isn't it?" the person in charge seemed to laugh.

"Well, it's good to survive. ”

They took the rover to a makeshift waiting hall next to the tarmac, which was crowded with people who had fled from Selene, the vast majority of whom were researchers and professionals there. Everyone is wearing similar clothes, basically not people who are familiar with each other, and they can't recognize who is who in each other, and thanks to this, they can hide themselves.

But the front is being registered one after another, presumably to count the list of survivors and report to the superiors.

If the madness was still there, it would have been a piece of cake to solve these censorship, but now they can't rely on him, and it's a big problem completely. Patrick uses the scan to understand the situation around him, and he has lost hope in the normal passage of the process and must find another way. But no, entering Artemis requires purification, so the purification area is the only entrance.

In that case, they can't stay here any longer. They were the last to come in, and no one else knew them except for the emergency squad that they saw when they got off the transport plane, so even if they went out now, it wouldn't attract unwanted attention. Patrick first turned on the optical camouflage and went out to confirm the situation, and the emergency squad was not nearby, so he asked G41 and him to come out.

The sun was shining from the ridge on the ring, and the temperature on the lunar surface was above 100 degrees Celsius where the sun was perpendicular to it.

They flew over the Crescent Moon building with thrusters and landed on the roof. The head-up display showed that oxygen reserves and thruster fuel were limited, and they had to find a way to enter Artemis as soon as possible. Patrick looked around and his eyes fell on the towering tower, the glass windows on which must have been tempered glass, but not a problem for Patrick.

The thrusters were sprayed in batches, and the two of them jumped forward, repeating five or six times before reaching the tower. There is a signal receiver on the top of the tower, and the direction of observation is the silver pot, presumably the conning tower that monitors the unknown building. The glass of the windows is brown, an opaque light-proof material, suggesting that the silver pot is associated with bright light.

Due to the low gravity environment, Patrick and the G41 quickly climbed the conning tower. The scan marked the personnel inside the tower, who all looked at them suspiciously, and tried to talk to them on the communicator. Patrick clinged to the edge of a window, raised his fist and slammed it down, causing a crack in the surface of the glass. The officials of Artemis were visibly frightened, first flinching, and then finally one of them went to sound the alarm.

Patrick threw two more punches, and when he finally threw the third punch, the tempered glass shattered completely, and the air in the conning tower was instantly emptied, and the poor people inside were also sucked into a vacuum, either crushed to death by air pressure or suffocated.

Patrick, waiting for the chaos to end, immediately entered the control tower to disarm the alarm, and G41 retrieved the tablets from the miserable commanders and handed them to him. Fortunately, it was not locked, otherwise their efforts would have been in vain. Of course, Patrick still can't get the administrator privileges, but at least they now have a map of Artemis.

"Syncing data ......"

"Eh, that cauldron is called ...... 'Luna Arrow'?" G41 said, receiving the synced data as well.

"Well, yes. Patrick replied absentmindedly. It's a good name, but it doesn't sound pleasant.

The "Luna Arrow" must be some kind of weapon...... Such a scale......

"Where are we going next? Master. ”

"We need supplies," Patrick said, "and we can't do anything without weapons." ”

"That's right......" G41 smiled wryly, "G41 can't help at all......"

"There's no way around it," Patrick gently placed his hand between her ears as he put his hand between her ears, "first we'll have to get in touch with Command before we receive supplies......

"In other words, take the communication center first, and then find a place to receive supplies, right?"

"Uh...... Correct solution. ”

Patrick was silent for a moment.

"That, G41......"

"What?"

"Thank you......"

Patrick walked down the stairs, leaving G41 alone.

"Yes?"
