Chapter 39: Fighting ghosts and borrowing Zhong Kui
In ancient folklore stories, there is a hero named Zhong Kui. I believe that many readers have also seen it, and now many film and television works highlight the deeds of Zhong Kui catching ghosts, it is said that every place he goes, he specializes in punishing the demons and monsters there, and eradicating the scourge for the people.
And after a long time, all the demons and ghosts were not afraid of him, and the poor people worshiped him instead. In the period of New China, there is a tourist attraction called a ghost city in Fengdu County, Sichuan Province, there is a Zhong Kui Hall on the left side of the Temple of the Son of Heaven, and the main god enshrined in the hall is the ghost king Zhong Kui who specializes in catching ghosts and eating ghosts in folklore, in fact, Zhong Kui's prominence has a lot to do with Tang Ming Emperor Li Longji, and it can also be said that it was Tang Minghuan Li Longji who originally put Zhong Kui on the altar.
During the reign of Emperor Li Longji of the Tang Ming Dynasty, once when he returned to the palace from the Lishan Schoolyard, he suddenly fell seriously ill, and the imperial doctors tried their best to be helpless, and they were busy for more than a month, but they did not see the emperor's holy body turn around.
Until late one night, Emperor Tang Minghuang dreamed of a bull-nosed imp, dressed in red, with one foot wearing boots, and the other foot bare, with boots hanging from his waist.
This little ghost stole Yang Guifei's purple sachet and Emperor Ming's jade flute, and Li Longji was furious when he saw it, and scolded loudly.
At this time, a big ghost suddenly appeared, wearing a broken hat on his head, wearing a blue robe, and a horn belt, catching the little ghost at once, gouging out two eyes with his fingers, and then tearing the little ghost in half and devouring it alive.
Emperor Tang Ming hurriedly asked the name of the big ghost, and the big ghost hurriedly stepped forward and said: The minister is Zhong Kui, the Jinshi of the South of the South, who died on the steps of the corner hall because of the failure to move, and became the ghost king after his death, swearing to eliminate the evil ghosts and demons in the world.
At this time, Emperor Tang Ming woke up from a big dream, and his sick body was cured, so he immediately summoned a generation of painters to paint Saint Wu Daozi according to what he saw in the dream, and painted a picture of Zhong Kui catching ghosts.
After the picture was drawn, Li Longji stared at him for a long time and said: Isn't Mr. Mo dreaming with me?
The painting is the same as what you see in your dreams. So he immediately hung this painting on the back door to suppress demons and drive away evil spirits. Due to the vigorous promotion of Emperor Tang Ming, Zhong Kui was able to establish the status of the god of fighting ghosts.
This can also be regarded as the beginning of Zhong Kui's journey to the altar. Later, in the Qing Dynasty novels The Legend of the Ghost Slayer and the Legend of the Ping Ghost, Zhong Kui's origin was created with more twists and turns.
The book says that he is a talented man in the south of Shaanxi, and he was born fierce and ugly, but he is extremely talented. Later, when he entered Beijing to take the exam, the article was completed in one go, and even the chief examiners Han Yu and Lu Zhen couldn't help but applaud after reading it, so they were named the top champions.
Unexpectedly, Tang Dezong judged people by his appearance, and was very displeased when he saw Zhong Kui, so he listened to the slanderous words of the treacherous minister Lu Qi and wanted to drive Zhong Kui out of the Dragon Court.
Zhong Kui was so angry that he thundered and died on the spot. At this time, Tang Dezong was also very remorseful, so he exiled Lu Qi and named Zhong Kui as the god of exorcism, traveling all over the world to kill demons and evils.
Zhong Kui got rid of ghosts, made great contributions, and was named the Emperor of Exorcism by the Jade Emperor, and Zhong Kui's reputation spread more widely among the people at this time.
The Song Dynasty scientist Shen Kuo's book Mengxi Pen Talk Magazine, one said that it was a slander of the end of the sun, and it was attached to the people. That is to say, in ancient times, a kind of mallet used to drive away ghosts was called the end of the sun.
Therefore, there is no Zhong Kui in history, but the story of Zhong Kui is widely spread. A generation of great men also once said: In order to fight ghosts, with the help of Zhong Kui.
The comprehensive meaning is that no matter how big or small the ghost is external, as long as it harms the interests of the common people, no matter how powerful you are and how big the internal officials are, the final result will be self-destruction.
