Just a few days ago, many places around the world held themed activities to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of Tang Xianzu and Shakespeare.

During the Ming Dynasty, the famous opera critic Shen Defu once said: Tang Yi is still a dream of the Peony Pavilion, and the family heirloom recites a few orders to reduce the price of the West Chamber.

It can be seen that the Peony Pavilion has an irreplaceable position in the history of Ming Dynasty opera and even in the history of classical Chinese opera.

I myself have seen the popular version of the Peony Pavilion, and I admired Tang Xianzu's thinking at that time. In that period when culture and etiquette were extremely feudal, they dared to write a love story about young people's pursuit of personality freedom, free love, and anti-feudal etiquette.

This shows that Tang Xianzu himself has the spirit of opposing feudal etiquette and demanding a good person. However, Shakespeare's operas were able to circulate in the Western continent 400 years ago, which is also closely related to the invincible model of the British empire at that time.
