Chapter Forty-Eight: Shakespeare of the East

When I write about the title of Shakespeare in the East, many people may not understand it, and even ask Shakespeare, isn't Shakespeare from Western Britain in the West?

He is a world-famous opera artist and poet. And the Oriental Shakespeare I want to talk about today is also a great opera master who has influenced China and foreign countries, he is my famous Chinese opera writer Tang Xianzu Tang Weng during the Ming Dynasty.

Just a few days ago, many places around the world held themed activities to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the death of Tang Xianzu and Shakespeare.

So today, I will briefly evaluate the Oriental Shakespeare that influenced the world. Tang Xianzu's meaning is still, JX Linchuan people, born in the Ming Dynasty Jiajing period of a scholarly family.

He was proficient in ancient poetry since he was a child, and he also specialized in astronomy, astrology, medicine, divination and other miscellaneous sciences during the middle period of that time.

In his thirties, he was promoted to the official side, and later angered the powerful because of the suppression of the powerful, and finally abandoned the official and returned to his hometown, and since then he has devoted himself to the study and creation of opera poems.

His most famous is the opera Peony Pavilion, which is known as the Four Dreams of Linchuan together with the Purple Hairpin, Handan and Nanke.

The opera peony pavilion has long been spread to many countries in the world and is regarded as a treasure of the world's opera art.

During the Ming Dynasty, the famous opera critic Shen Defu once said: Tang Yi is still a dream of the Peony Pavilion, and the family heirloom recites a few orders to reduce the price of the West Chamber.

It can be seen that the Peony Pavilion has an irreplaceable position in the history of Ming Dynasty opera and even in the history of classical Chinese opera.

I myself have seen the popular version of the Peony Pavilion, and I admired Tang Xianzu's thinking at that time. In that period when culture and etiquette were extremely feudal, they dared to write a love story about young people's pursuit of personality freedom, free love, and anti-feudal etiquette.

This shows that Tang Xianzu himself has the spirit of opposing feudal etiquette and demanding a good person. Hehe, I love to watch Dream of Red Mansions more, and Menxing asked himself that he was also a pawn in the study of Red Studies, but I saw the love story of Du Liniang and Liu Mengmei hundreds of years earlier than Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu, and began to emancipate their minds.

Moreover, many of Tang Weng's works criticize the harm of feudal etiquette and religion, thus showing the social phenomenon of social turmoil and people's misery, and many of the beautiful words and lyrics in Tang Weng's works have become swan songs for the ages.

Tang Xianzu's opera can now be widely circulated all over the world, which is also closely related to the strength of our country.

However, Shakespeare's operas were able to circulate in the Western continent 400 years ago, which is also closely related to the invincible model of the British empire at that time.

I believe that the strong military conquest of a country is indispensable, but the cultural conquest is the conquest of the human heart.

I remember that RB occupied South Korea and Taiwan, China, and ruled Taiwan for 50 years, during which the Taiwanese people were allowed to learn Japanese and RB culture, and then they were conscripted to invade China, but in the end, many Taiwanese people thought that they were RB people, which was also cultural conquest.

For many years, many people in the cultural circle have compared Tang Xianzu with Shakespeare, and some people say that every work of Shakespeare is suspected of plagiarism.

In my opinion, there are many great works of opera in ancient China, all of which have the same effect. Because they brought opera to a certain height, readers and scholars cannot look at the problem out of context.

The environment is different, the national conditions are different, but in the end, it is they who bring the culture out of the country and to the height of the world.
