Chapter Twenty-Eight: What to Repay with Virtue?
The Analects was compiled by Confucius and his disciples, and it mainly records the words and deeds of Confucius and his disciples, and reflects Confucius's thoughts in a concentrated manner, and is one of the classic works of Confucianism. Pen @ fun @ pavilion wWw. ļ½ļ½ļ½Uļ½Eć There are many famous sayings of Confucius in the Analects, and there are many well-known classics, which I believe we are all very familiar with, but there are also some idioms that I think have been misunderstood by us, such as: complain with virtue.
Complaining with virtue can be said to be a sentence that is often heard in real life, perhaps we usually understand that complaining with virtue is to say: Confucius taught us that others have bullied you, you have to endure it, and if you are broken your teeth, you have to swallow it in your stomach, others are bullying you, you should treat him better, you should use your love and sincerity to influence him, and use your kindness to move him, I feel that this understanding is very speechless. Try to think about it, if I slapped the past, and the person who was beaten said: The more you beat me, the more I want to treat you as well, and I want to treat you with a loyal and benevolent heart. Zi said: If you complain with virtue, how can you repay virtue? Repay grievances with directness, and repay virtue with virtue! After reading it, I realized that we have misunderstood the true meaning for so many years. What was the real situation at that time? One of Confucius's disciples asked him, "Master, if someone beats me, I don't beat him, but I want to be kind to him, and I want to use my morality and upbringing to shame him and make him repent." Confucius said: If you complain with virtue, then how can you repay virtue? When others treat you with virtue, you need to repay others with virtue. But now that someone has beaten you, you should complain and pick up something and call me back. Just because a sentence was omitted, the sage Confucius, who was like a fire, was suddenly distorted into the current image of a gentle qi bag, and Chinese civilization has always been regarded as humble and stoic. And since the time of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, Bodhidharma Dongdu introduced Buddhist ideas to the eastern land, what kind of spirit did he get? Shakyamuni said: If I don't go to hell, who will go to hell? He completely looks like he is obedient, and he doesn't just talk about it, the big eagle wants to eat his meat, and he really cuts off the meat of the big eagle with a knife from himself, and I think this is a bit outrageously great.
The phrase Sage Confucius repays grievances with virtue has been misinterpreted by many people for many years, and he is also bullied. Even some small countries in our neighborhood that are militarily weak have this kind of courage, but what about our Chinese civilization? We have tolerated the situation in the South China Sea at every turn, but what did we get back in the end by over-forbearance? In exchange for provocations and demonstrations by the United States, the Philippines and other countries, we have to give our Chinese territory to international arbitration every inch of our country, and in the end, our national interests will be damaged. There are revolutionary songs, and I remember that there is a line in the lyrics: When a friend comes, there is wine, and if a jackal comes, there is a shotgun to greet him. This lyric represents the wolf nature of the Chinese nation. And in conclusion, I would like to say: Confucius did not understand this way that he repaid grievances with virtue.
