Chapter 43: The swan song Tianjing Sha Qiusi
Withered vines and old trees, faint crows, small bridges and flowing water. The ancient road is a thin horse with a west wind, the sun is setting, and the broken intestines are at the end of the world.
Although this Yuan song Xiaoling is very short, with a total of only five sentences and 28 characters, it is Ma Zhiyuan's most widely circulated swan song, and many friends I believe have learned to read it in junior high school.
The original translation is, on the old tree entwined with dead vines, a few crows roost at dusk, the stream trickles under the small bridge, there are a few families on the side of the stream, on the desolate ancient road, the west wind is blowing, and the wanderer rides a skinny old horse.
The sun has set in the west, and the wanderer is still wandering in a foreign land, not knowing where he will be.
Xiao Ling seems to depict a bleak picture of the wanderer's journey, and at the same time accurately conveys the poet's sad state of mind during the journey.
The author is Ma Zhiyuan, a famous opera artist and essayist. He has created many classic lyrics and songs that have been recited for a long time, and this Tianjing Sha Qiusi has also made it commented by later generations as the ancestor of Qiusi.
From the enthusiasm for fame in his youth to the later imitation of Tao Yuanming's ambition, I think this is also related to the high-pressure policy of the early Yuan Dynasty at that time.
People are depressed in middle age, and live a wandering life in a foreign land. From the beginning of the first sentence, the dead vine and old tree faint crow, creating a cold and bleak atmosphere, the dead vine in autumn is not green to see, and see a few crows perched on the dead vine, the author definitely has sad feelings, of course, the crow itself is not a mascot.
Then the sentence of the small bridge and flowing water, there is a kind of secluded village scene in late autumn, although there are only a few retail households, the poet seems to have a leisurely and elegant mood in the small bridge and flowing water.
It also reflects that the author is away all the year round, and the feeling of returning home comes from the heart. In addition to my skinny old horse accompanying me on the ancient road, I seem to be about to leave this place, and I see how lonely the poet's heart is.
The sun is setting, and the heartbroken man is at the end of the world. The author uses the setting sun to give this dim picture a few bleak rays of light, which deepens the sad atmosphere.
The Broken Intestine Man is at the end of the world, and I, the Broken Intestine Man, come from where I go and go there, and where I end up in the end, and at this time the extremely sad traveler will continue to wander.
But I think he thinks about when my embarrassing life will come to an end. Ma Zhiyuan was born in 1250 and died in 1321, lived for more than 70 years but was depressed, and finally died of depression.
When he was young, he worked as a local petty official for a period of time, but he was not satisfied with his career, so he did not serve as an official for a long time.
Then he gradually became discouraged, and continued his songwriting while complaining, and on the one hand, he claimed to have seen through the worldly fame and fortune, and regarded himself as a hermit.
In his later years, he was once impoverished, but it was this kind of life of eating and drinking that created countless excellent works for later generations, many of which also reproduced the real social phenomena of the time.
