(151) Variation of Handsome Park
On the north side of the Friendship Road in the western suburbs of the city, there is a park called "Handsome Park".
It was built in the 60s of the 20th century to commemorate the heroic feat of Liu Yingjun, a soldier of the People's Liberation Army, who bravely sacrificed his life to save six children and stop the frightened horses.
The park was built on the site of Liu Yingjun's dedication.
If he were still alive, he would be in his seventies.
The park seat faces south.
The gate (which is also not a door) is in the middle of the south side of the park.
On the wall on the west side of the gate are engraved six golden characters of "Liu Yingjun Martyrs Cemetery", and the background of the words is black. On the east wall of the gate is engraved an article "Liu Yingjun Martyrs Cemetery Repairs", golden yellow small characters, recording the repair of Yingjun Park several times over the decades, and the background of the words is also black.
On the wall, bright red characters are hung on the east and west sides, "carry forward the spirit of heroes" are hung on the west side, and "building a harmonious society" are hung on the east side.
Walking straight inside from the gate, not far away is the statue of Liu Yingjun stopping the frightened horse. Further inside, there is the cemetery where Liu Yingjun sleeps, the coffin is rectangular in shape, and a high wall is erected behind it. The wall is black, and the wall is engraved with six glittering golden characters of "Good Son of the People", which is very eye-catching and can be seen from a distance.
On the west side of the cemetery, stands the "Liu Yingjun Memorial Hall". Directly above the middle of the museum is engraved with six big characters of "Liu Yingjun Memorial Hall", the handwriting is golden yellow, and the surface of the museum is white.
On the east side of the cemetery, there is a tank donated by a certain unit. To the south of the tank is the gym equipment.
Around the cemetery and in the open space in the park, there are pine and cypress, willow trees, and unknown trees, which are verdant and dripping.
The south side of the cemetery is planted with lilac trees, prickly plum trees and sweet branch plum trees, which are full of fragrance. Under the tree is green grass, soft and delicate.
For many years, people come to Yingjun Park to pay homage to the martyrs and remember the feats.
There are also many people who exercise in the morning, rest and stroll here.
In the evening, there is a small market in front of the park, which is bustling with activity.
Thirty-four years ago, I brought my five-year-old son to the city. My sister and brother-in-law brought our siblings and children to Yingjun Park to pay respects to the martyrs and took a group photo in front of the statue of Liu Yingjun. However, the statue of this group photo is not the statue of Liu Yingjun stopping the frightened horse in the gate, but the statue of him holding up Chairman Mao's writings.
According to the wife, the statue is still there, on the east side of the cemetery.
By the variation of Handsome Park, I mean the demolition of the iron fences and gates around Handsome Park in 2012.
It is said that the city government ordered the removal of the iron fences and gates around the park, and the park became accessible in all directions, making it easy for the people to enter and exit.
This is well-intentioned and beyond criticism.
However, I don't think it's appropriate.
Like Xilin Park, there are no martyrs sleeping peacefully, and there is no strange scenery, this gate is demolished, it is very necessary, and there is no defect.
However, like Handsome Park, the martyrs sleep peacefully, and the gate is removed, which is very inappropriate.
And the key point is that the original gate of Handsome Park is quite spectacular and deeply touching.
As soon as you approach the gate and see the eye-catching characters of "Liu Yingjun Martyrs Cemetery", you will have a sense of solemnity and admiration. Reading "Liu Yingjun Martyrs Cemetery Repair" will make people appreciate the municipal government's care and love for the martyrs' cemetery. Seeing the banner of "carrying forward the spirit of heroes and martyrs and building a harmonious society" will make people high-spirited and strive for progress......
This spectacular gate also adds a magnificent landscape and majestic momentum to the martyrs' cemetery, and its significance and role are extraordinary.
Whenever I pass by Handsome Park, I see that the once magnificent gate has become empty and lonely, and I suddenly feel a sense of loss, which is a big loss!
