Chapter - Death Omen
Tamarel is not the only continent on Nairn, beyond the vast ocean. You will be able to see a different world. One of the continents, known as Akaua, was once inhabited by a powerful race called the Serpents.
They even crossed the ocean in ancient times in an attempt to annex Tamarel.
But it doesn't matter, the manuscripts that record history have long since died with the passage of time. By now, there were few people on Tamarel who knew any real information about the snake people.
But one thing is certain. These snake people feed on dragons and their subspecies.
…………
Lilith gently pushed open the side door, and her slender figure disappeared in a flash.
As an officer of the Imperial Legion, she certainly has the right to enter the Deep Blue Palace. But if she wanted to enter some of the more secluded places, even if she was just close, she would be politely but firmly invited out of the Deep Blue Palace by the vigilant guards. And at the latest, in no more than two hours, a team of spies will conduct a comprehensive and detailed investigation of her.
After all, this is the core of Dugu City, the palace where the Supreme King of Skyrim Province lives.
And the place Li Lisi wants to go to is the treasure room in this palace.
Her fingers shook slightly, and the outline of her entire person became blurred in the illusion spell. In normal times, it would be dangerous to cast spells in this palace even with her arcane skills. But today was an exception, and the news from Xue Manling reached Dugu City. The chief court wizard of Dugu City was also invited to participate in the meeting at Dür Castle due to her advanced knowledge of the arcane.
The meeting would last at least three hours, and during that time it would be her deputy who would be in charge of the Deep Blue Palace's monitoring circle. This was enough for Lilith to dive into the depths of the palace with enough caution.
Her steps were light and almost silent. The patrolling guards had no idea that a high-ranking Brotherhood assassin had slipped right under their noses.
It is said that a dragon attacked Xueman, and after that, a hero appeared who defeated the dragon.
Lilith didn't really like to ask for this information, but as an Assassin, it was extremely necessary to keep it up to date. She knew that the [hero] was actually a girl of unknown origin, and she knew that she was most likely the legendary dragonborn. And she also fell out with the lord of Xueman.
Whatever, as long as it doesn't get in the way of the Brotherhood, it doesn't matter to her what that maybe Dragonborn guy wants to do.
Lilith let out a long breath, a thread-like stream of air crashing into an inconspicuous corner.
In front of her was an invisible line that divided the inner and outer areas of the Deep Blue Palace.
The outer area is protected by falconry and 300 elite guards. The inner zone has more traps and arcane traps. What's more, Grand Wizard Sibilee Stint's monitoring circle always keeps an eye on every corner of the inner district, except for a few [private] rooms of Lord Elysifher, even the slightest change anywhere will be immediately captured by the circle.
The high-level assassins who were exposed because of this monitoring circle and finally died tragically under the sword guarding, there are not only one or two top thieves. The Grand Wizard had been serving the High King for an unexpectedly long time.
Therefore, you have to be very careful.
Lilith took out a small bottle of dark brown potion from her bosom, tilted her head and drank it in one gulp. The effects of the medicine were quickly revealed in two breaths - she felt her senses greatly strengthened, and her vision turned from a multicolored color to a gray.
The name of this potion is [Cat Wing], and it is rumored that some ancient black cat can see the flow of mana in the atmosphere, and this alchemy potion using saber-toothed tiger's eye as the main ingredient mimics this effect.
In Lilith's eyes, the corridor in front of her was nothing but the rich carpets, decorations, carvings, and the vases of different styles and the plants in them. There are many, many bright lines intertwined and moving in a strange rhythm.
These are the catalysts for the detection circle, which are evenly distributed over most of the inner layers of the palace and are in constant motion.
Lilith took a deep breath and plunged headlong into the web of light and dark lines.
She jumps, spins, folds, rolls with ease. made a series of dizzying movements. Even the dancing girls at the court dinner may not have done as well as her. Her body swayed rhythmically, brushing against pale lines.
Her route was not straight ahead, but sometimes forward, sometimes backward, sometimes a long detour even if there was only a small footboard in front of her, but a large group of oncoming guards was able to pass through them in a state of invisibility.
The Grand Wizard has been running the palace for at least thirty years as well. It's hard to find a loophole - it's not something you can do by stunning a guard and then changing to armor and badges. Lilith had no interest in turning into charcoal or a hedgehog.
Such a task should be left to the rats of the Thieves' Guild, who are the best people to handle this kind of thing. However, time was pressing, and Li Lisi had to go into battle in person.
It is said that the Guardian and the Nightmother's corpse have arrived in Skyrim Province and will soon arrive at the Sanctuary. In order to show respect for the Lady Who Died, the Brotherhood used most of the dark lines and chess pieces in Skyrim Province to prepare for a grand [ceremony] to welcome the Night Mother.
What could be more appropriate than the assassination of a great man of great fame?
Lilith couldn't think of a better choice, but she didn't bother to think about it. Although the organization does not strictly abide by the precepts as it did before the era, it still can't afford to [deal with] someone out of its own pocket. No matter who is going to be killed, there will always be a financier who has already paid the bill. In fact, there are only a few characters who are qualified to celebrate the arrival of the Night Mother's Body. Anyway, they don't look at each other, and someone will always pay the bill.
……
When Lilith crossed the last white line, the medicinal effect of [Cat Wing] also faded, and her vision gradually returned to normal.
The first line of defense has been crossed, and the next line of defense is the second one.
What she had to face next was an all-pervasive breeze.
These winds are not naturally generated, but are the product of arcane mechanisms, and they are not lethal in themselves, but they are able to detect the outline of objects like water mixed with dye. The guards on patrol are all recorded, so naturally there is no need to worry about being mistaken. However, Li Lisi didn't want to have such a good treatment.
She sighed imperceptibly, although this situation had been known from the information that had been bought with a lot of money, but seeing it on paper was not the same thing as being in the scene!
It seems that the only way to do this is to be more violent. She then took out a few tiny soul stone fragments from her pocket. These small things have been specially processed to paralyze some of the functions of arcane traps for a short period of time.
I just hope that this deputy of the Great Wizard will not be so careful to monitor the circle. Anyway, Lord Elysifher also participated in the meeting, and the defense in the palace should be relatively lax...... bar. Li Lisi shook her head and smiled bitterly, and the fragment of the soul stone in her hand had silently entered the spring.
Lilith tensed the muscles all over her body, and as soon as there was even the slightest abnormality, she would immediately activate the arrangements made in advance, create chaos and turn around and run.
Unfortunately, her luck was unexpectedly good, and the spring only dimmed slightly, and it temporarily stopped.
It was a godsend, and Lilith quickly slipped into the gap, and it didn't take long for her to get through the barrier.
Originally, there was a third layer of defense in the future. It was a combination of dwarven self-propelled machines and summoned acolytes transformed by the Great Wizard, guarding the door of the treasure house, and not even a single fly could bypass the defense. But Lilith didn't pay any attention to them.
There are only a few halls in the entire dark blue palace that have no spell detection. They are the personal space of the High King, who of course has been killed by the rebels, and now they belong to the blonde Lord Elyseverus, the queen of the High King.
And in the female lord's bedchamber, there was a secret door to the treasure vault hidden in a corner that was not obvious. The Brotherhood had spent countless resources to discover this information that even the current lord himself did not know. And now it's where it comes in handy.
After turning the menorah, pushing the throne, and pressing heavily on some of the floor tiles, the wall behind the curtain parted, revealing a swarthy hole below.
Li Li jumped off without hesitation.
Ignoring the mountains of precious jewels, priceless paintings and curiosities (she herself had no idea how she could have done it), Lilith found her purpose in the deepest part of the treasury, the ancient artifacts that had been almost forgotten in the dust of history.
It was a thumb-sized crystal bottle containing about half an ounce of crystal-blue liquid.
The blood of the Snake King, the hero of the Second Age.
If the texts are correct, weapons smeared with snake blood can inflict great damage on dragons and their subspecies. This is also the reason why the Blade Samurai were able to slay dragons in ancient times. But that was limited to the lower dragon species - they should have been extinct long ago.
The dragons that still exist in the world today are all powerful creatures that have survived several epochs of bloody battles and can easily destroy a city. Even if it was the blood of the Snake King, it should not be likely to get much effect.
Could it be that the wise, powerful, and experienced lady of Astoride had finally stumbled over Skumar one day to the point of a madness trying to kill an ancient dragon, or was she really dealing with a young dragon - there were newborn dragons in the world?
Lilith shook her head, flicking the mess out of her head.
She still had to leave the Deep Blue Palace before the effect of the soul stone fragments disappeared, and she didn't want to gamble again!
