The script of "Looking for the Cat".
Act IV (excerpt): Conversation in the café
Characters: Male protagonist Ruofan (a literature student who just graduated from university), and the cousin of the heroine Xue Ning (senior lawyer)
Location: Cafe
Background music: Schubert's "Winter Journey"
Cousin: Time is precious, so let's make a long story short, shall we?
Ruofan: If you count the wedding, we have only met twice, and we can't say more than the number of fingers together, so there shouldn't be any need to talk about the past, just be concise and frank.
Cousin: Even if you are hostile to me, I should explain to you what my client wishes.
(If you are silent and light a cigarette, this is the second one)
Cousin: As for my client, I think you should have known it in your heart for a long time - Xue Ning, if it were someone else, even if it was entrusted to me, I wouldn't deal with it, after all, it would be too troublesome to deal with such a thing. And interfering in other people's marriages is not authentic no matter how you say it.
Ruofan: So specifically, what's going on?
Cousin: Something concrete? She must have texted you before, right?
Ruofan: I sent it, saying that she liked someone else, and told me not to wait for her, and then there was no news, and I don't know where the mobile phone card was lost, and I can't get through until now.
Cousin: Of course, if you want to break off with someone, you have to completely cut off all possible ways to contact without any worries.
Ruofan: But I can't figure out why this kind of problem arose for no reason that our relationship has always been very good.
Cousin: I don't know about this, and I'm not here to explain to you things that are beyond my knowledge.
Ruofan: Then please tell me where she is?
Cousin: I'm sorry, I don't have anything to say.
(Ruofan then lights the next cigarette)
Cousin: I regret your plight, but at the same time, as a person who has come before, I want to tell you that you made a very naïve decision from the beginning, so when you realize this problem one day, it is a natural choice to stop it in time to avoid the mistake from continuing.
Ruofan: I don't agree with your summary as a person who has come before, you don't know anything about the emotions between us, if it was just out of youthful impulse, we wouldn't have been able to get along with each other for so long.
Cousin: That's because your relationship is based on the premise that you don't touch each other's inner software.
Ruofan: I don't want to get bogged down in the swamp of sophistry. How do you know that Xue Ning likes other men?
Cousin: From Xue Ning's mouth, she found me about two months ago. We met and arranged temporary accommodation for her. Xue Ning explicitly told me that she had another man she was dating with, so she left.
Ruofan: Well, even though I have a hard time believing what you say, you have no reason to lie to me.
Cousin: Of course, it's not a.
Ruofan: So you came to tell me that this is over, and I should agree to divorce her and let her find a new home?
Cousin: Absolutely.
Ruofan: I'm sorry, but it's hard for me to say yes to this request.
Cousin: What else do you have to hold on to a marriage that is not supported by your family and your relationship is broken?
Ruofan: This is my business.
Cousin: Of course, I can't say much about you, but when it comes to my cousin Xue Ning, I still advise you to think again.
Ruofan: Then take me to see her and talk to her face to face.
Cousin: She doesn't want to see you.
Ruofan: Other than that, there's nothing else to talk about.
(Ruofan extinguishes the cigarette and takes a sip of coffee)
Cousin: As an aside, she actually had affairs with many men after marrying you. So, it's a matter of time before they part ways, it's just that you don't notice it.
Ruofan: She also told you personally?
Cousin: That's right. He said it with a lot of guilt, but it also said that he couldn't do anything about it.
Ruofan: Nothing can be done?
Cousin: The powerlessness is the inability to restrain yourself from doing what you can't do.
Ruofan: Do you have any other digressions?
Cousin: Still unwilling to give up?
Ruofan: Why didn't I notice anything in my marriage for more than two years?
Cousin: That's because you don't have the slightest suspicion of your wife, which is a good thing, but sometimes it's not. So, can I sign the agreement?
Ruofan: No.
Cousin: Okay, then I won't bother you too much, you can think about it again, once you figure it out, you can call me at any time, I know that what I said today is a big blow to you, and it will take time to digest it slowly. I also don't like to be aggressive, here's my phone. (He takes out his business card from his briefcase, puts it in front of Ruofan, and turns to leave.) )
Narrator 1: She acts like a **, disgusting.
Narrator 2: Maybe she has something unspeakable.
Narrator 1: What kind of privacy can make people sell their flesh?
Narrator 2: The devil knows, but there must be such a reason in this world, waiting for people to find it.
Narrator 1: Excuses made out of nothing.
Narrator 2: Circumstances that cannot be chosen.
(The curtain falls, Ruofan lights the fourth cigarette)
