Chapter 51: Original Sin (II)
"Mr. Gaunt," said Ogden stubbornly, "I am afraid that the purity of your family's blood has nothing to do with it. All I know is that your son attacked a Muggle. ”
Muffin chuckled.
"Shut up, boy!" Gaunt shouted in a parseltongue, and Morfin immediately fell silent.
"And even if he did, so what?" said Gaunt defiantly to Ogden.
"It's an attack on an unsuspecting one for no reason—"
"Ha, as soon as I saw you just now, I knew you were a Muggle person. Gaunt sneered, spitting on the ground again.
"Nothing will come of this kind of talk. "Judging by your son's attitude, it is clear that he has no remorse for what he has done. I must inform you that Morfin will be tried on September 14 to answer to the accusation that he used magic in front of a Muggle and caused harm and suffering to that Muggle—"
Ogden stopped suddenly. From the open windows came the sound of horses' hooves and loud laughter.
"Oh my God, what a sight to behold!" said a girl's crisp voice through the open window, "Tom, can't your father tear down that little shed?"
"That's not ours. "Everything on the other side of the valley belongs to our family, but the little cabin belongs to an old homeless man named Gaunt and his children. That son is crazy, you ought to hear what the people of the village have to say about him-"
The girl laughed. The sound of horses' hooves grew louder and louder. Morfin wanted to jump out of the armchair.
"Sit down and don't move!" his father warned him in a parseltongue. "Now it's not your turn to be presumptuous here. ”
"Tom," the girl's voice rang out again, "I can't be mistaken—did someone nail a snake to that door?"
"Yes, you read that right!," said the man's voice, "it must have been that son who did it, and I told you he wasn't in his right mind." Don't look at it, Cecilia, dear. ”
The sound of horses' hooves faded away.
"'Honey. Muffin looked at his sister and whispered in a parseltongue, "He calls her 'darling,' and it looks like he won't want you." ”
Merope's face turned pale and looked like she was going to faint at any moment.
"What's going on?" asked Gaunt, also in a parseltongue, his eyes looking at his son and then at his daughter, "What did you say, Morfin?"
"She loved watching that Muggle. Moffin said and stared at his sister with a vicious expression on her face, while Merope looked terrified, "Every time that Muggle passed by, she looked at him through the fence in the garden, didn't she? Last night—"
Merope shook her head pleadingly, but Morfin said mercilessly, "She's wandering outside the window, waiting to see that Muggle ride home, isn't she?"
"Wandering outside the window. Waiting to see a Muggle?" Gaunt asked in a low voice.
"It seems that you have no position to criticize my youngest son. Richard said lightly.
Harry was surprised to see that Richard Silver hissed like a snake.
Ogden was bewildered and annoyed by the incomprehensible hiss and roars of this new round of explosions.
"Is this true?" asked Gaunt in a somber voice, taking a step or two closer to the terrified girl, "My daughter, a descendant of Salazar Slytherin purebloods, is pursuing a filthy, unscrupulous Muggle?"
Merope shook her head frantically. Desperately huddled in the corner, obviously unable to say a word.
"But I taught that fellow a lesson, Daddy!" said Morfin, grinning, "as he walked by." I taught him a lesson, and he was covered in hives and didn't look so pretty. Isn't it, Merope?"
"You abominable little squib, you filthy little scum!" Gaunt roared, losing control and holding his daughter's throat with both hands.
"Stop, Marvolo, it's not the Middle Ages now. Richard Silver raised his wand, "Force!" Gaunt was knocked backwards, leaving his daughter behind. He tripped over a chair and fell to the ground on his back.
Morfin roared angrily, jumped up from his chair and tried to rush at Richard, but was stopped by Gaunt's words, "You idiot, go and get rid of this Ministry of Magic mongrel first!
Seeing that the situation was not good, Ogden immediately took the road and fled. Dumbledore motioned for them to follow. Harry followed, Melop's screams still ringing in his ears.
Ogden rushed onto the dirt road, turned quickly onto the main road, and crashed into a shiny red horse. On horseback was a very handsome young man with black heads, and he and the beautiful girl who rode a gray horse beside him laughed heartily at the sight of Ogden's appearance. Ogden bounced off the red horse, and immediately ran and ran down the path.
"I think it's about the same, Harry. Dumbledore said. He grabbed Harry's elbow and tugged lightly. In the blink of an eye, the two of them flew weightlessly higher and higher in the darkness, and finally landed firmly back in the principal's office.
"How's that girl in the cabin?" asked Harry at once, "the one named Merope or something?"
"Oh, she's fine. Dumbledore said as he sat down again behind his desk and motioned for Harry to sit down as well, "Ogden's apparition moved to the ministry and returned fifteen minutes later with reinforcements. But now Gaunt and his son Morfin were knocked to the ground by Richard. Morfin was sentenced to three years in Azkaban for his attacks on Muggles and attempted attacks on Ministry of Magic officials. After being rescued, Marvolo attacked the Ministry of Magic officials and was sentenced to six months in prison. ”
"What about Richard Silver?" asked Harry, confused.
Of course, he was not guilty, after all, Marvolo and his son were dangerous elements, and Richard Silver, who was very famous in the wizarding world, had no fault in subduing these two madmen. ”
Dumbledore paced to the window, "Marvolo, his son Morfin, and daughter Merope are the last of the Gaunts, a very old wizarding family, known for their restlessness and violence, and because of their habit of marrying close relatives, this trait is more pronounced from generation to generation. Their lack of rationality, coupled with their penchant for extravagant pomp, led to the squandering of the family's fortune long before Marvolo was several generations old. As you have just seen, Marvolo ended up destitute, frighteningly bad-tempered, yet arrogant and conceited, and he had two ancestral relics in his hands. ”
"Why does Richard Silver have a parseltongue too?"
"The Parseltongue isn't exclusive to Slytherin, Harry. Dumbledore said, "And the Silver family must have something to do with Slytherin." Richard Silver's most revered little aunt was married to Marvolo, who was not so jerky in his youth, and was considered a man who could revive the lintel of the Gaunt family. However, after a lot of life, his wife died, and Marvolo was devastated as a result, and the relationship between the Silver family and the Gaunt family deteriorated. The details are probably only known to the Silver family themselves. ”
"I don't understand -- what these things have to do with the truth. ”
"This is the beginning of what came to be the end of the first qiē -- Voldemort, the son of the poor girl Merope. (To be continued......)
