Chapter 401: Magical Double-Sided Tape
I've been thinking about whether to write this article, because writing this article will involve a problem of "revealing secrets" or "teaching", but because I often use double-sided tape to make things, and double-sided tape has a great influence on my research on magic, I want to write down some of my own experience and share it with you.
Double-sided tape is an inconspicuous accessory in magic, when we talk about accessories in magic, everyone will mention magnetic rings, multi-clamps, card mats or anti-slip agents and the like, but double-sided tape is the most easily overlooked thing in magic. I hope that through my experience, I can give you more inspiration for magic creation.
In fact, the role of double-sided tape in magic is not a lot, to take the simplest example, when we want to make a special card of a bicycle, we must first tear the card, and then glue the two sides together will use double-sided tape, some people may say, with glue or stick glue and the like, is it not better? I have also tried to use glue, but there is one of the biggest problems, that is, the special card made is easy to wrinkle, and the use of double-sided tape can avoid this problem.
The original meaning of fixed is to repair, and of course there is also a fixed meaning, because I really can't find a word to describe this meaning.
The fixing effect of double-sided tape itself has a great application in magic. For example, the magic trick of Card on ceiling is very exciting, but it is not easy to fix the cards selected by the audience on the ceiling, everyone knows that it can be done with Magic Wax, but in the absence of Magic Wax at hand, a similar effect can be achieved with double-sided tape.
Here's how: cut out a few small pieces of double-sided tape, tear off the stickers, stack them on top of each other, and then use scissors to repair them into squares or original shapes (I've done experiments, and every time I succeeded, but the time the cards spent on the ceiling was limited, and maybe the cards would fall off when you continued to perform other magic tricks, which was caused by the nature of the double-sided tape itself).
For another example, the magic trick of putting the bottle cap into the bottle, many people can't perform it because they can't buy a magnetic ring or can't find a magnet of the right size, and the use of double-sided tape to fix the bottle cap on the wall of the bottle can avoid this problem (of course, don't stick it too tightly, otherwise the bottle cap won't fall off).
Disappearing and transferring this is the biggest use of double-sided tape, generally used in card magic, to put it bluntly, it is used to disguise, paste double-sided tape on the back of a card, put it on the top of the whole deck of cards, so that the card selected by the audience is placed on this card, with a thumb lightly, the two cards become a card, and will not be separated, that is, it causes the illusion that the cards selected by the audience disappear, and with two identical cards, you can achieve the effect of transfer,
Here's how: Prepare two identical cards, such as Six of Hearts aces and Six of Hearts' Bs. Place the Six of Hearts aces at the bottom of the deck, and the Six of Hearts Aces where you want the audience's cards to move, in your pocket purse. Then find a random card, which is double-sided tape and placed on top of the deck.
Force gives the audience six aces of hearts and places them on top of the deck so that the top two cards stick together.
After shuffling the cards, the whole deck of cards is turned face up, one by one is dealt to the table, and the cards selected by the audience disappear (this card must be dealt quickly, so that everyone does not find a problem).
After that, take out the thing you put in the six of hearts beforehand, so as to complete the effect of this transfer.
packet trick, the role of the deck, the most important one is to eliminate the role of anti-slip agent, because the magic of many decks involves the application of anti-slip agent, you can take a look at oz's NF, which is the use of double-sided tape to achieve a four-ghost four-A transformation.
There is also a typical example of the Wizard of Oz (although it is not a deck, or here to say), some people say that the green field of double-sided tape is not easy to use, I personally think it is because they did not tear off the double-sided tape, I once made a set of double-sided tape of the green field, but because the double-sided tape is too sticky for this magic, so simply tear the double-sided tape, but after tearing the two cards together, the effect is much better, because after the double-sided tape is torn off, the original card still retains a certain stickiness, and this stickiness is enough to put the two cards together, and it is easy enough to separate the two cards。
The Ultimate Aces Assembly, a teaching that uses double-sided tape to complete a collection close to David's 4A, is a classic of the classics, and a lecture by Richard Mo (I forget the name exactly), which talks about an oil and ater process, the whole magic trick is not used at all, but the effect is very amazing
Double lift and forceDouble flip and strong selection, many people don't know double, and want to take advantage of it, double-sided tape can become a weapon to do double, but I don't say this to let everyone give up double, double is the foundation of card magic is also the top priority, must practice.
Put the card to force on the top of the whole deck of cards, and paste double-sided tape on the back of the card, and then let the audience choose a card, do not look at the top of the whole deck of cards, use double-sided tape, and give the force card to the audience, so the advantage is that you can choose a card at will, and no longer use break to mark the card to force.
Prepare an envelope of prophecy, paste double-sided tape on the back of the envelope, and prepare two identical cards: such as Six of Hearts A and Six of Hearts, put Six of Hearts A into the envelope for prophecy, and then put Six of Hearts B on top of the whole deck of cards, and then let the audience choose a card, do not look at the top of the whole deck of cards, then take out the envelope of prophecy, face the audience, back face to yourself, use misdirection to take the opportunity to put the envelope face up on the whole deck of cards, so that once the envelope is taken off the double-sided tape, the card selected by the audience will be glued away, and then turn over the top card, which is the card you want to force。 It's easy to complete your prophecy magic.
As for the placement of the double-sided tape, at first I was used to sticking it in the middle of the back of the card, but later I found that when I was doing the transfer magic, the two cards might be wrinkled due to long-term use, and the gaps could be seen on the sides when they were pasted together, so after thinking about it, I still thought that Henry Evans's method was better, which was to stick the double-sided tape on the four corners of the card. Note: Don't stick it on the white edge of the back of the card, stick it on the four corners of the back of the frame (i.e., the four angels).
