Chapter 5 How Blockbusters Are Made

Spielberg's hard work and Captain Dale's enthusiasm made Edward's group of actors suffer a lot.

So Edward and these actors were taken to the battlefield of the old Jin Ge Iron Horse, where they only ate canned food at every meal, crawled in muddy water, and even slept on cold, muddy ground.

From the very beginning, the actors were immersed in the film's environment, befitting themselves by the names of their respective characters, learning a lot of military knowledge every day, and during the 10-day training, the actors learned how to use weapons, melee skills, individual tactics and the code language and sign language signals of the army during World War II.

If you want to be a star, you must pay a price!

On days like this, the actors have become accustomed to their roles, and when they eat or walk, they naturally line up in a column, which is quite the same thing.

Even the gossip outside of training is full of military flavor:

"Private First Class Jackson. I heard you have a good temper? Hanks, who plays the captain, ridicules Edward, who plays the "sniper" Private Jackson in the play.

"Yes, sir! I love the U.S. military! Edward replied quite earnestly, and said it very well.

Even one morning, Vin Diesel got up late and didn't have time to have breakfast.

Edward took off his coat, dug out a pocket inside, took out an egg, and handed it over.

Seeing Vin Diesel's puzzled eyes, he explained, "When I set off, I stole two eggs and just ate one. ”

Vin Diesel's eyes immediately widened in surprise, and his expression in the moonlight looked a little funny, "Man, you are really my savior." ”

"One egg, two packs of cigarettes." Looking at Vin Diesel's outstretched hand, Edward put the egg back and spoke.

On the real battlefield, it is normal for comrades-in-arms to help each other, and the only thing they can circulate is cigarettes, which are luxuries. Now, Edward has brought this habit with him.

Vin Diesel grinded his teeth, snatched the egg, and stuffed it directly into his mouth before the skin was plucked clean, "A pack of cigarettes." It looked so funny that even Hanks couldn't help but look up.

However, after the baptism of boot camp, Edward has become calm, not because he has enough acceptance of the sinister environment, but because he knows that the most difficult moments are always followed by more difficult moments.

In particular, Edward had to master some basic skills as a sniper, not only to learn the basic skills of moving, hiding, observing and camouflage, but also to master the skills of using the Springfield M1903 sniper rifle.

On the battlefield, staying alive is the only thing that matters.

Edward understood this, but he couldn't experience it personally, and even after ten days of training, the threat of death was still not clear enough.

The military training camp is located in the middle of nowhere, with a wide and boundless view in front of you, and there is no human being in sight within a thirty-minute drive nearby, and the silence and vastness bring an indescribable sense of loneliness, and how small human beings are in front of nature.

Of course, during training, Spielberg also came to see Edward.

It's just that Spielberg doesn't often come to stare here, because there is still a lot of preparation work that needs to be approved by him, and the shooting plan of some future scenes is by no means solved by drawing a draft storyboard, and he needs to lead the heads of many departments to conduct field trips.

"Oh my God, when is it going to end?" Spielberg guessed correctly, and sure enough, it was Edward, the "bad boy", who was the most cheerful.

But Hanks Oscar winners are all meticulous in participating in the whole process, no different from themselves. What else could he say?

"Stephen, it's been almost two weeks, I think we're all trained to go into battle, I feel like I can command an infantry division now!" Edward grumbled as soon as he saw Spielberg.

"Soon, the shooting will start immediately, I'll take it! When the Minister of Defense hears such words from you, he will definitely issue you a medal! Spielberg looked at him and smiled.

"I'm not interested in the U.S. Secretary of Defense, there's no hot shower, no telephone, no TV, no music, yes, no women. I feel like I've become primitive! Edward was still there complaining, excited to remember the night he had rolled the sheets with Britney.

The other actors on the side looked at him happily with playful expressions, they were used to his complaints.

"Don't worry, I will definitely let you go to the battlefield as soon as possible!" Once again, Spielberg assured.

"Thank you, General, I love the American Army! I promise I'll make it to East Berlin single-handedly! "Edward took the military salute seriously.

Spielberg also specifically asked Hanks for advice, after all, this kind of superstar needs to be taken seriously enough there.

"It was a rare experience, and I've been thinking about the role for a long time." Hanks confidently replied that he had always been fascinated by the history of World War II and was always looking for books and materials that could depict the entire World War II in terms of human nature or human emotional experience, not just strategic operations, and "Saving Private Ryan" brilliantly captures this point.

Hanks is a good old man, and he always finds time to discuss the script with young actors like Li Fulong.

And Edward and a few other hairy boys are even more grateful, they study the script every day, and sometimes before going to bed at night, they also pull Hanks and a few other old actors to ask for advice.

In any case, these small roles have allowed several newcomers to embark on the road to stardom, and they still remember this "sinful" day many years later.

In the hot training camp here, Spielberg saw these actors exhausted under the command of the instructor, and the corners of his mouth naturally smiled.

Seeing this situation, Spielberg's heart is very bottom, at least this line remembers to be familiar with it.

The actors were training in this isolated place, and the feeling of homesickness and friendhood was growing day by day, which was in line with the mood of the soldiers in the script, and without this closed training, they would not have behaved as well as Spielberg had hoped.

From the day they enter the bootcamp, they have already started to get into the role.

Finally, on the second weekend that Edward was looking forward to, after the Oregon boot camp, the entire "Private Ryan" crew came to Ireland and prepared to start filming.
