On April 1, 1955, 50 years after the establishment of the TV station, Radio Tokyo began its television broadcasting business in Akasaka, Tokyo, under the name "KR TV" and the call sign "JOKR-TV".

On November 29, 1960, Radio Tokyo changed its name to TV Tokyo Co., Ltd., abbreviated as "TBS", and at that time it still used abbreviations such as "TV Tokyo" and "Radio Tokyo".

On December 1, 1961, Tokyo Broadcasting officially adopted "TBS" as its abbreviation.

On March 21, 2000, TBS established two wholly-owned subsidiaries:

TBS Entertainment Co., Ltd. is responsible for the production of TBS TV entertainment programs.

TBS Sports Co., Ltd. is responsible for the production of TBS TV sports programs.

March 22, 2001: TBS was established, TBSLIVE Co., Ltd. was established to produce TBS TV information and live programs.

On 1 October 2001, the call sign of TBS's television channel was changed to "JORX-TV", and the name of the channel was changed from "TV Tokyo".
