Chapter 557: Precepts

"What are the ten precepts of my Buddhism?" asked Su again. Pen ~ fun ~ pavilion www.biquge.info

"Do not kill, do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not lie, do not drink alcohol, do not adorn, do not sing, dance, do not observe, do not sit on high beds, do not eat out of season, and do not store up gold and silver treasures. Both of them said.

When it comes to "not lewdness", both of them have a little change in their voices.

Su asked the two again, "What are the precepts?"

This time is different from last time, the last question was about the content of the precepts, but this time it is the meaning of the precepts themselves.

"The foundation of cultivation!"

"A model of self-restraint!"

Both answered.

"Yes and no. Su Wen said to the two, and then left the two of them and went out, leaving the two of them looking at each other and not knowing what was going on.

After more than ten minutes, Su Wen came back with a wooden barrel in his hand.

Fill the room with the bucket and put it in front of the two of them: "This bucket is the precepts." ”

"This water is practice!"

"With this wooden barrel, we can ensure that the water in it does not leak out, and the more we continue, the more we continue.

Only with the precepts in place can you ensure that your practice does not deviate from the path of the Buddha and is on the right path.

If this bucket breaks, then the water inside is leaking. ”

Su Wen spoke, and his finger pressed on the barrel. With a soft sound, the water in the bucket leaked out through a finger-sized hole and was all over the floor.

"The purpose of the precepts is, to put it bluntly, 'to stop evil and do good.'

Only by stopping evil deeds can we diligently cultivate the good Dharma, and only by diligently practicing the precepts and obeying the Buddha system can we make the body, mouth, and mind pure and untainted in the precepts, and will not fall into the evil path.

Therefore, the precepts are set to learn the three wisdoms, and the precepts are the first. ”

Both of them nodded silently, the two of them naturally knew the meaning of the precepts, and they were also thinking in their hearts why they were focusing on this, was it to punish the two severely?

If Su Wen severely punished the two, the two would naturally accept it happily. However, there are also some mixed emotions in the heart.

The two of them felt guilty in their hearts after breaking the vows, and they also had a feeling of emptiness in their hearts after the things they had been holding on to were broken.

Just like some people have always obeyed the constraints of morality and law, if they have always adhered to it, then maybe they can stick to it for a lifetime. But after a breakthrough, then this constraint is not so unbreakable in their hearts, and the constraint will be weakened a lot.

For example, when they embezzle for the first time, they can no longer hold back, this is the reason.

But the two of them were ordered to go out to do errands, and after they were captured, they were drugged to break the vows, not subjectively wanting to break the vows.

This made the two of them feel both painful and conflicted.

Su Wen naturally knew this, so he would take such trouble to solve this matter, and let them think about it for two days before solving this matter.

"I don't say the meaning of the precepts, and you all know them. ”

"Please punish the abbot!" the two suddenly spoke, taking the initiative to ask for punishment.

"No punishment for a moment. I also want to ask you two what my Zen teachings are?" asked Suwen.

"Pointing directly to the heart, seeing the nature to become a Buddha. Both of them said.

These eight words explain the true meaning of Zen Buddhism, and it is also the biggest difference between Zen Buddhism and other sects.

"So what does the precept have to do with seeing nature?"

The two thought for a long time before saying, "Please make it clear to the abbot"

Su asked, "The precepts are tools, tools for you to maintain a pure mind and find your true self. It is only within the precepts that you will not go astray and will always be within the reach of the bucket. ”

"But what if I drink and break my vows?" asked Su Wen rhetorically.

"Naturally, once will not have any effect, but if you can't keep your heart, it is easy to indulge in it and do the wrong thing. Xingku said in a low voice.

"Not bad. Su Wen nodded.

"If I can keep my true heart, then will breaking the vows still have an effect on me? Everything in the world is empty, and breaking the vows is also illusory, and breaking the vows on the surface cannot affect my original heart, so what?"

The two of them pondered, and their eyes showed a sudden expression, and they said appropriately to Su Wen: "Understood, thank you abbot." ”

"Don't thank me yet, can you two keep your heart?" asked Su Wen.

Both of them said firmly: "Hold it!"

"You two can keep a pure heart!"

The two still nodded: "Guard!"

"Where are the troubles?"

The two hesitated, wanting to say no, but they were still silent. Although both of them understood Su Wen's words, many things could not be let go immediately. This incident has always left traces in the hearts of the two.

"If you two have broken the precepts, you will be punished for whatever reason. Su Wen looked at the expressions of the two of them at this point, and then continued:

"You two build a hut on the back mountain, where you will be punished for one year in retreat, and you will not be allowed to go down the mountain or return to the monastery until the expiration date. Meals are brought to you every day. Su asked.

After listening to Su Wen's words, the two of them didn't have any dissatisfaction, but felt that it was the best.

In this year, the two of them were able to sort out their moods, practice hard, and remove the impact of breaking the vows on the two of them.

You can't go down on the mountain, you don't see people all year round, and after a long time, you will naturally put down many things that affect the mood of the two.

Although it is lonely and boring, it is unbearable for ordinary people, but it is not a bad thing for the two of them.

"Willing to be punished!" both said.

Su Wen nodded: "You two go back first, make arrangements, and go up the mountain after breakfast tomorrow to find a place to stay." As for the thatched hut, it was built by yourselves, and it was part of the chase. ”

"Yes, Abbot. ”

"And again, what I say to you both today must not be said to anyone else. ”

Although the precepts were tools in Su Wen's view, they were the basis for the practice of ordinary monks. This can be the case with the current situation of the two of them, if it reaches the ears of other monks, and others also use the precepts as just tools, then there will be trouble.

Just like Dao Ji said: Wine and meat pass through the intestines, and the Buddha stays in his heart.

However, there are two more sentences at the end: If the world learns from me, it is like entering the devil's way.

These few words speak for themselves.

The last punishment was also deliberately done by Su Wen, in addition to the above-mentioned letting the two of them use this time to get rid of the root of their troubles, so as not to let the two of them neglect the precepts in the future because of this matter.

The next morning, Jingxin Temple still had its morning class as usual.

After the abbot and several monks who had been away from the monastery for a few days returned, everything was normal at the Pure Heart Temple.

After breakfast, Xing Ku and Xing Jing didn't say hello to anyone, they went directly to the back mountain, looking for a temporary place to stay according to Su Wen.

When the two of them found a place to stay, they moved their luggage up, and they had to build a thatched hut first.

Not long after the two of them left, Xingzheng came up to report: "A few neon monks have come over, and it is said that they are monks from Suma Temple. ”

As soon as Su Wen heard the report, a few people he had seen in the Big Buddha Temple suddenly appeared in his mind.

But how did they find it?

At the same time, the Great Buddha Temple was sealed, and the news of the arrest of all the monks spread throughout the Buddhist sect.
