Chapter 423: Is it a conspiracy or a coincidence
According to Gardino and Newton, the cause of the incident occurred six months before the "Titanic" began its fateful maiden voyage.
On September 11, 1911, the sister ship of the "Titanic" "Olympic" was leaving Southampton for sea trials, and collided with a much smaller British Royal Navy cruiser "Hawke" at sea.
Unfortunately, when the White Star Steamship Company applied to the insurance company for compensation, the insurance company investigated and determined that the party responsible for the collision was the "Olympic", so it refused to pay compensation.
To add insult to injury, repairs to the Olympic were prohibitively expensive and could take months. At that time, the White Star Steamship Company was already in serious economic difficulties.
Andrew Newton said in an interview with reporters: "Worse, if the 'Titanic' does not set sail on time, then the White Star Steamship Company will face bankruptcy." β
Robin Gardino said, "The only way out of this situation is insurance fraud." Why spend so much money to repair the Olympic? Because of its unusual appearance, why not disguise it as the Titanic for its maiden transatlantic voyage and arrange for an accident to receive a huge sum of money?"
So, if the "Olympic", disguised as the "Titanic", was allowed to hit an iceberg and sink in the Atlantic, what would happen to the lives of the more than 2,000 passengers on board?
Newton said: "The White Star Steamship Company may have arranged for a 'California' steamship to dock in the iceberg haunted area in the Atlantic Ocean in advance to wait for the 'Titanic' to appear, and once the ship collides, the 'California' will appear in time to transfer all the passengers and crew on the 'Titanic'." β
According to Gardino and Newton, the situation of the USS California in the Atlantic Ocean was suspicious because it did not carry a single passenger except for the crew and 3,000 woolen sweaters and blankets!
Gardino and Newton said that everything would have gone according to "plan", however, the "California" finally mistook the location and distress signal of the "Titanic" and did not rush to the wreck site in time for rescue.
As a result, 1,523 innocent passengers and crew members paid a heavy price for their death at the bottom of the sea.
Gardino, Newton, and other conspiracy theorists believe that the ultimate owner of the White Star Steamship Companyβββ American super-rich JP Morgan is the mastermind behind this insurance fraud plot.
In fact, even in the eyes of Steve Hull, an expert on the "Titanic", there is no difference between the "Titanic" and the "Olympic".
Hull said in an interview: "In our eyes, apart from the different names, the two ships are actually identical. β
So, how did the White Star Steamship Company manage to steal two ships without anyone noticing?
Newton said: "It's actually easy, and the boss of the company can easily change the Olympic to be more like the Titanic by paying a small bribe to the poor workers, which means changing some lifeboats, life jackets, stationery, and a new batch of carpets with the ship's markings." β
None of the items that Aier salvaged from the "Titanic" had its mark engraved on it!
Gardino and Newton listed six "anomalous events" to prove that the "Titanic" had been stolen and replaced.
First, during the fateful journey of the "Titanic", there was a sudden change of course, which may be a signal that the Titanic hopes to rendezvous with the "California" that responds;
Second, when the "Titanic" was hit by an iceberg, someone saw the first mate Murdoch running to the high bridge.
Murdoch may have been trying to stand on a high ground and look for the trail of the rescue ship that was responding;
Third, the later accident investigation report leaked that there was not a single binoculars in the crew hold, which meant that it would be difficult for the watchmen to detect the traces of the iceberg in time;
Fourth, the most suspicious is the behavior of JP Morgan, the president of the White Star Steamship Company, who was also going to take the "Titanic" on his maiden voyage, but two days before the voyage, he suddenly canceled the trip, citing ill health, but when the Titanic sank, someone found out that he was having a tryst with his French mistress.
In addition, another 55 passengers were also abruptly canceled at the last minute;
Fifth, due to the temporary conversion of the "Olympic" into the "Titanic", there must be cornering in many processes, so when the "Titanic" sank, some people found that some of the lifeboats on board were leaking like a sieve;
Sixth, the most incredible thing is that among the more than 3,600 items salvaged from the remains of the "Titanic", none of them were engraved with the mark "Titanic"!
But this is not necessarily the real reason for the sinking of the Titanic.
Because the bow of the Titanic has 16 windows, while the Olympic has only 14, the second-deck windows of the Titanic and the Olympic are not the same (the former is wide and the latter is narrow), and the side corridor of the Titanic is not the same as the Olympic (the former is open, the latter is semi-open)
In order to restore the details of the Titanic and give everyone a better understanding of the wreck, FAM Fine Art Model Company approached the Harland Wolfford shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and spent 7 years creating this 1:48 model.
The research and design work took 2 years, including the designer's manuscript records, to recreate every unique change on the Titanic that was different from other Olympic-class cruise ships.
From late 1995 to 1998, the company piloted the trial production of a 1:192 model, and the final version was completed in 2002 β longer than the construction of the Titanic itself.
The completed model of the Titanic is more than 18 feet, 1,500 pounds, and more than 8 miles of optical fiber are laid inside to reproduce the lighting facilities.
The "Titanic" commemorative exhibition opened at the Porte de Versailles Convention and Exhibition Center in Paris, France on the 4th, displaying nearly 300 cultural relics salvaged from the wreckage of the ship and partially replicated cabins.
It is said that a private enterprise in Sichuan and an American partner announced in Hong Kong on January 12, 2014 that they plan to invest in the construction of a permanent docked cruise ship on the bank of the Yunjiang River in Daying County, Sichuan Province, according to the Titanic 1:1 replication, in order to build a tourist attraction that attracts tourists from all over the world.
The replica project is planned to be built by Sichuan Qixing Energy Investment Group with a planned investment of 1 billion yuan, commissioned by a professional team such as a design company in the United States, and is built by Wuchang Shipyard, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, and is scheduled to be completed in two years.
Curtis Schnell, a Hollywood art director who participated in the design of the project, told reporters that in order to build a replica of the "Titanic" in Sichuan, the design team will mainly refer to the information of the "Olympic", the sister ship of the British luxury cruise ship "Titanic", as well as some existing furniture of the "Olympic" to make the plan.
"The 'Olympic' is almost exactly the same as the 'Titanic', and it is the closest to the original, from the floor, cables, furnishings of the ship, to the decoration style, and even the porcelain used in the cabin restaurant, we are ready to copy it exactly. Schneier said.
"I think the replication of the 'Titanic' is not only to promote the development of local tourism, but also to better share and pass on the spirit of the 'Titanic' - human love and self-transcendence. Schneier said.
Schneier participated in the design and production of props for the classic movie "Titanic" directed by Cameron in 1997, and served as an art design and direction consultant for many Hollywood film companies.
At the press conference held on the same day, the famous British actor Bernard Hill, who played Captain Smith in Cameron's version of "Titanic", was also invited to join the consultant team of the project.
Hill was also hired by the project investor to be the captain of the future new "Titanic".
The Titanic luxury cruise ship hit an iceberg and sank into the deep sea 100 years ago, killing more than 1,500 people on board.
An international expedition team led by explorer Robert Ballard first discovered the Titanic wreck site in 1985, and Pleyer Exhibitions' RMS Titanic subsidiary obtained the exclusive salvage rights to the Titanic in 1994.
Since 1987, the company has made eight salvage trips to the shipwreck site, acquiring more than 5,500 artifacts.
Artefacts recovered from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean at a depth of 3,800 metres include fine porcelain, silver cutlery and the wreckage of a 17-ton ship with full portholes.
On October 16, 2012, Prier Exhibitions released a document saying that it had signed a non-legally binding letter of intent with some anonymous buyers to sell all Titanic artifacts for $189 million.
Following the release of the document, Plier Exhibitions' share price fell 18%.
Prier had hoped to sell the Titanic's artifacts so that the company could focus more on the traveling exhibition business, but the court in 2010 had ruled that in order to ensure the integrity of the artifacts, the Titanic artifacts must be sold as a whole.
Bill Woollahus, a hedge fund product manager who owns a stake in Plain Exhibitions, said: "Buyers must be super-wealthy because they have to have a wealth of exhibition resources, be passionate about the Titanic artifacts, and meet the purchase conditions set by the court." β
Plier Exhibitions also confirmed in a telephone interview that the company hopes the transaction will meet all legal requirements.
The company also said in the document that although the sale had some financial and legal obstacles, it was also an effort to find a permanent home for the Titanic relics, and at the same time it could bring benefits to the company's shareholders.
As part of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, some of the priceless treasures salvaged from the ship will be open to the public on a large scale for the first time.
The exhibition began on November 16, 2012 and traveled from Atlanta, USA. Among the exhibits are diamond and sapphire rings, bracelets, necklaces and a gold pocket watch, as well as other priceless salvage items.
On April 27, 2014, the last letter written by the survivors of the "Titanic" on the cruise ship was auctioned at an auction house in Duvezis, England, and sold for 119,000 pounds (about 200,000 US dollars, 1.25 million yuan).
The letter reads: "It was Sunday afternoon, and after lunch we rested in the reading room. Yesterday I was in a bad state all day, I couldn't eat or drink, but today I have recovered. Ethel Hart wrote.
In 1912, Esther Hart and her seven-year-old daughter, Eva, wrote the letter eight hours before the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank.
That year, the Harts immigrated to Canada with their daughter.
The letter was sent to Ethel's mother, who lived east of London.
Ethel Hart was in second class at the Titanic with her husband and daughter, and the letter mentioned above was intended to be sent to Esther Hart's mother in England. Both the letter and the envelope were provided by the Titanic and bear the logo of this luxury cruise ship.
The address of the letter is "on the Titanic".
When the shipwreck occurred, Ether and her daughter were rescued in a lifeboat, but her husband did not survive and died at sea.
The letter was kept because Ether's husband carried it in his coat pocket, and later took it off to keep Ether warm. Ethser's husband was killed along with 1,500 other people on the Titanic.
100 years have passed, and Titanic relics are still selling for a lot of money. Previously, a menu on the day of the wreck had sold for Β£76,000 and the violin used by the band at the wreck had sold for Β£900,000.
The letter was bought by an unnamed person, and the price hit a new high for Titanic-related letters, with the previous highest price being Β£94,000.
The auction house said Esser's letter was "very precious because it was written on the Titanic." In the letter, Ether described the "journey as wonderful" and "very pleasant."
The auction house also said that it was the only known letter written on Sunday, April 14, 1912. On the same day, the Titanic hit an iceberg.
The auction house said, "We are sure that 12 hours after the book was written at home, the Titanic sank into the Atlantic." β
The home writing is on the official stationery provided by the "Titanic", and the words "Take the Titanic" are written at the head, and the time is "Sunday afternoon".
In the letter, Ether Hart also said that on the 13th she vomited and could not eat or drink. However, "now it is all right," and she went to pray with her daughter in the morning.
She also wrote that her daughter sang hymns "very beautifully" and that "tomorrow night" will be sung at a concert.
The letter also mentions the stability of the Titanic. The Titanic is said to be very stable, but Ethel Hart wrote, "For me, it shook enough." The letter went on to read, "Ah, the sailor has said that the journey has gone well so far."
The maiden voyage of the "Titanic" from Southampton to New York sank on the fifth day of the trip. On April 15, 1912, the super cruise ship Titanic sank because it hit a floating iceberg on its maiden voyage, and the death and missing toll was about 1,500.
In 1898, the British writer Morgan Robertson wrote a book called "In Vain".
Wrote about an unsinkable luxury ship named Titan, which sailed from Britain on its maiden voyage to the United States across the ocean.
It was the largest and most luxurious passenger ship ever seen in the history of human navigation, equipped with all the luxurious amenities of the time, full of wealthy passengers, and people enjoyed themselves on this huge ship.
However, on its first voyage, the giant ship hit an iceberg on its way and sank tragically, leaving many passengers at the bottom of the sea.
No one could have imagined that this story would become an unfortunate reality fourteen years later.
On the night of April 15, 1912, the Titanic, the largest luxury passenger liner at the time, sank due to hitting an iceberg.
After the tragedy, some people remembered this article and found that in addition to the almost identical names of the ships, there were many great similarities between the two: both ships sank on their first voyage, the cause of which was that they both hit icebergs, and the place of the accident was in the North Atlantic;
The number of passengers and crew written on the "Titan" is 3,000, and the number of passengers and crew on the "Titanic" is nearly 3,000; the estimated weight of the Titan is 70,000 tons, and the actual weight of the Titanic is 66,000 tons; the length of the Titan is 800 feet, and the length of the Titanic is slightly more than 880 feet; the number of propellers on both ships is three, and the speed of collision with icebergs is 23 knots; the reason for the heavy casualties of passengers after the accidents of the two ships is that there are not enough lifeboats on board.
In May 2017, some scientists said that bacteria were eating away at the wreckage of the Titanic. According to recent estimates, by 2030, the ship could reach its end and disappear completely.
