Chapter 548: The First Wild Camping
Kantara is the fourth transit city in Vladivostok-Cape Town, across the Suez Canal from Africa. Pen "Fun" Pavilion www.biquge.info
The fifth transit city of the rally is located in Cape Verde, the westernmost point of Africa, on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, Dakar. To get from Kantara to Dakar is equivalent to going from the northeast to the southwest corner of the Sahara Desert, a straight-line distance of 6,000 kilometers between the two cities.
Although it is necessary to cross the Sahara Desert in the middle, it cannot be advanced in a straight line, after all, in the middle of the Sahara Desert, there are four central plateaus: the Algerian Plateau, the Ahagar Plateau, the Al Plateau, and the Tibesa Plateau.
So even if you go through the great desert, you have to pass through the flat position in the middle of these four plateaus, and there are no roads in the Sahara Desert for you to run, and if you want to cross these plateaus, you either have to walk around the Sahara Desert, or you have to find a flat terrain to cross these plateaus on the way through the desert.
As a result, the most conservative distance from Kantara to Dakar is more than 7,000 kilometres, the longest stage of the rally so far.
Of course, the Sahara Desert, which is the size of the United States, is not completely deserted, and there are still a number of cities in this huge desert, even if they are small, but they can also provide a lot of convenience for riders crossing the Sahara Desert.
Just like the Real Madrid group, it has set up fixed supply points in the three small cities of Tazilb in Libya, Incaizam in Nigeria, and Dire in Mali, and many other professional convoys have also set up supply points in these small cities.
The nearest city between the three cities is 1,500 kilometres, so riders crossing the Sahara would do well to pray that nothing breaks down on the way, otherwise they will be out of luck.
Of course, in order to protect the drivers, during the rally, in the ten cities in the Sahara Desert, there are also helicopters provided by the organizing committee on standby, if a driver breaks down or has other accidents on the way, then these helicopters can rescue the driver in the shortest possible time.
But once you use a helicopter to rescue, your rally journey is over.
Early the next morning, Grandmaster and Fang Zhengying crossed the Suez Canal from the highway bridge on Highway 40 over the Suez Canal and officially entered the African border.
Across the Suez Canal is the famous Nile Delta. This is one of the world's largest deltas and the world's main producer of long-staple cotton. Cairo, Africa's largest city, is located in this delta.
However, Grandmaster and Fang Zhengying did not go through the prosperous delta, but after crossing the Suez Canal, they headed southwest along Highway 40, grazing the edge of the delta to Cairo, and then turned to Highway 75 and crossed the Nile River from the south of Cairo.
Of course, when passing through Cairo, Grandmaster and Fang Zhengying did not forget to visit the pyramid located in the southwest corner of Cairo. Since you have come here from far and wide, it would be a bit too much to miss the opportunity to admire the pyramids.
The three pyramids, including the Great Pyramid of Khufu, and the Sphinx are located on the edge of Cairo City, and the 147-meter-high Great Pyramid of Khufu can be seen from a long distance.
After stopping at the pyramid for about 20 minutes and taking a lot of photos, the two men drove all the way west, and after passing the city of October 6th, they officially entered the vast Sahara Desert.
The distance from Kantara to Tazirb, the first supply city in the Sahara Desert, was more than 1,800 kilometers in a straight line, but fortunately this section of the route was very flat, without mountains and highlands, so the Grandmaster drove fast in the desert, at an average speed of 200 per hour, and finally arrived at Tazir before the evening came.
Tazilb is a small city in east-central Libya, located in a small oasis in the heart of the Sahara Desert.
The city covers a large area, but the population is very small, only about 2,000 people.
When Grandmaster and Fang Zhengying arrived here, it was already past five o'clock in the afternoon. After finding the fixed supply point of the Real Madrid team in the north, after maintaining the car, replenishing fuel and supplies, the two of them walked around the town again.
But this small city is really nothing to see, it is surrounded by yellow desert, and the two of them have been driving in this environment all day today, and they are almost vomiting when they see it. And a gust of wind blows, and if you don't pay attention, it's a mouthful of sand.
After taking a few photos in a hurry, the two men returned to the supply point.
Naturally, the two of them were the first drivers to arrive here, and the other drivers did not dare to say it, but the Real Madrid team did not have a driver to resupply here.
In fact, the grandmaster drove quite fast along the way, and his excellent physical fitness allowed him to last longer than other drivers. Although he has to rest every night, the efficiency of the daytime rush is much higher than that of other riders.
Coupled with the fact that the first stage was blocked by a blizzard, the Grandmaster now reckoned that he could at least a day or even two days ahead of the other fastest riders.
After resting for the night, the Grandmaster resurrected on the spot full of blood, and continued to drive west in good spirits.
From Tazirb, you can see the Tibes Plateau to the south. This is a plateau located on the border between Chad and Libya, and is the highest plateau in the Sahara Desert, among which Mount Kusi, at 3,415 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in the Sahara Desert.
Brushing the north edge of the Tibes Plateau, bypassing several small mountains five or six hundred meters high, the Grandmaster continued to approach Ingaizam two thousand four hundred kilometers away.
Compared to the journey from Kantara to Tazirb, the journey from Tazilb to Incaizam is not so easy. Some small mountains in the central plateau still had a great impact on the Grandmaster, not only was the speed of the car much lower than yesterday's, but also the detour, so when the sun set at night, the Grandmaster didn't even run to Ingaizam.
In fact, none of the drivers of the previous rally has been able to complete this section of the race in one day. Of course, the two drivers took turns to drive and could reach Ingaizam in the middle of the night.
For safety reasons, the Grandmaster would not drive in the desert at night, so as soon as the sun went down, the Grandmaster and Fang Zhengying began to set up camp. It's about 500 kilometers away from Ingaizam, surrounded by dry desert, so you don't have to worry about any wild beasts.
Even if there is a beast, the grandmaster is not worried, the grandmaster also has a disassembled fully automatic rifle in the car, and after setting up the tent at night, this gun is reassembled by the grandmaster, and even the ammunition and other things are well prepared. If anyone who doesn't have long eyes dares to stab here, the Grandmaster will definitely let it know why the flowers are so red!
The two tents were set up in the desert, and a roaring bonfire was lit in front of the tents. When Tazir was resupplying, in addition to bringing an extra bucket of diesel, the Grandmaster also carried a large bundle of firewood about the thickness of his arm.
Tazirb's staff were very experienced and prepared a lot of dry firewood, and almost every vehicle carrying such a large bundle of firewood was carried for the purpose of camping at night.
This is also the first time that the two of them have camped in the wild since the start of the competition.
