Because after crossing the Kipenguere Ridge, although it is a flat river, between southern Tanzania and northern Mozambique, there is a large area of uninhabited land, except for the grassland. Most crucially, the border between Tanzania and Mozambique is the famous Rovuma River.

Although the river is not long, with a flow of less than 800 kilometers, the runoff is still not small, and the river is in the rainy season zone of the southern hemisphere at this time, and the river is extremely abundant in water, so it is impossible to cross the river directly at this time.

There are basically no towns within fifty kilometers of the north and south banks of the Rovuma River, and the most fucked-up thing is that there is only one road bridge over the river. All riders on the northern route on stage 6 will have to cross the road bridge to reach Mozambique.

During the first 20 editions of the Vladivostok-Cape Town, all the riders who took the northern route came to the Rovuma River and were helpless about the abundant river, but there was not even a simple pontoon bridge over the river, so the riders had to go downstream along the Rovuma River to the port city of Mtwara in the southeast corner of Tanzania, and after traveling more than 200 kilometers in the Indian Ocean by boat from Mtwara, they arrived at the port city of Pemba in the northeastern corner of Mozambique and disembarked, and then went to Angoche.
