Chapter 50 Yogurt, Ginseng and Fruit Eight Treasure Salad
Maji Ami, in Tibetan, means 'unmarried'.
The restaurant, called Maggie Ami, looks ordinary and is no different from some of the other restaurants around.
However, because of the existence of one person, it is destined that this restaurant will eventually become extraordinary.
This person is the only sixth Dalai Lama from the fifth to the thirteenth who did not leave a spiritual pagoda in the Potala Palace and was dismissed from his teaching position - Cangyang Gyatso.
And the name Maggie Ami comes from a famous love poem by Cangyang Gyatso.
On the top of the mountain high in the east,
Whenever the bright moon rises.
Maggie Ami's intoxicating smiling face,
It will come to my heart.
According to legend, Maggie Ami is the name of Cangyang Gyatso's lover, and the place where Cangyang Gyatso and Maggie Ami had a tryst was this inconspicuous little yellow building.
At the beginning, Zelang Wang Qing, the founder of the "Maggie Ami" brand, bought it and designed and decorated it himself after learning the story behind this small yellow building, and opened this Maggie Ami restaurant.
For many people outside Tibet, the name Cangyang Gyatso is known for his famous love poems, not because of his status as the sixth Dalai Lama.
Therefore, many tourists who come to Lhasa from other places will follow in the footsteps of Cangyang Gyatso to come here and feel the romantic scene when he is dating his beloved girl.
Ning Hao and Tang Xiaoxiao walked around for more than half an hour before they were finally able to walk into this restaurant.
Maggie Ami's Restaurant has three floors, the first floor is the kitchen, the second and third floors are the dining areas, but the two floors add up to only about two dozen tables.
The interior of the restaurant has a strong Tibetan style, and Ning Hao and their luck are not bad, they are arranged on the third floor, and the terrace here is an excellent location overlooking the street view of Bajiao Street.
"Let's get some food!"
After taking a seat, Ning Hao gave up the right to order food to the lady.
Tang Xiaoxiao was not polite, nodded directly, picked up the menu and began to order.
And Ning Hao picked up an anthology of Cangyang Gyatso's love poems from a bookshelf next to him and looked through it, when he first knew Cangyang Gyatso, it was because of one of his love poems.
I have worried about the love and damage to the Brahmanic practice,
When you enter the mountains, you may not fall into the city.
The world is safe and perfect,
Live up to it.
This is the most classic love poem written by Cangyang Gyatso to Maggie Ami.
While Ning Hao was flipping through the love poems, Tang Xiaoxiao also quickly ordered the dishes, and the waiter served them a pot of butter tea first.
Seeing that the tables around him were all full, Ning Hao originally thought that he would have to wait for a long time to serve the food, but he didn't expect that their first dish would come up after a while.
But looking at this first dish, Ning Hao was stunned.
"Is this a fruit bowl unique to Tibet?"
I saw that the first dish was all kinds of cut fruits, and Ning Hao saw that there were bananas, apples, pineapples, peas, and small tomatoes, etc., and the bottom was a milky white liquid, which smelled like yogurt.
"It's not. ”
Tang Xiaoxiao shook his head and said, "The name of this dish is Yogurt Ginseng Fruit Eight Treasure Salad." ”
"Yogurt ginseng fruit eight treasure salad?"
Ning Hao repeated this somewhat awkward name, and immediately thought of the ginseng fruit in "Journey to the West" in his heart.
Could it be that there is also a legendary ginseng fruit in Tibet?
Ning Hao immediately looked at the fruit on the plate curiously, and he really didn't see which one could have anything to do with the legendary ginseng fruit.
Seeing Ning Hao's movements, Tang Xiaoxiao explained with a smile: "Ginseng fruit is a wild plant unique to the Tibetan plateau, which has high nutritional value, and can be used as medicine or as an ingredient.
And this yogurt ginseng fruit eight-treasure salad is a cold dish made by mixing ginseng fruit and seven other food fruits with special yogurt. ”
After speaking, Tang Xiaoxiao pointed to a brown thing on the plate and said, "This is ginseng fruit, you can taste how it tastes." ”
Hearing this, Ning Hao immediately picked up the chopsticks, picked up the piece that was very inconsistent with the name of the ginseng fruit, and put it in his mouth.
After chewing it gently, it tastes good and tastes sweet and delicious.
After the first fruit salad was served, the other dishes were served to the waiter.
Stone roast beef, Tibetan-style grilled natural mushrooms, Maggie Ami vegetarian rolls, Lhasa fried rice, Tang Xiaoxiao ordered a total of five dishes, all of which are Tibetan-style.
But to be honest, the food here can only taste average, because it is an Internet celebrity restaurant, and the price is slightly more expensive than ordinary restaurants.
If you really rush to eat, you will definitely be disappointed.
But fortunately, Ning Hao, like many tourists, came here just to have a feeling for Cangyang Gyatso.
……
After having lunch at Maggie Ami, the two walked out of the restaurant and walked along the streets of Octagon Street towards the Jokhang Temple in the central area.
Jokhang Temple, located in the heart of Lhasa's LC district, is a Tibetan Buddhist temple that was originally known as Jalan Sat, which later became the name of the city, and eventually evolved into what is now Lhasa.
Therefore, when people in Lhasa introduce the Jokhang Temple, they often say: "First there is the Jokhang Temple, then there is the city of Lhasa!"
At the entrance of the Jokhang Temple, there is also a wide square, surrounded by a variety of shops, and there are many devout believers kowtowing here.
For these believers, the sacred status of the Jokhang Temple in their hearts is no less than that of the Potala Palace.
Looking at these believers who kowtow to the ground with long heads, it is easy to make people admire them.
Watching these devout believers is not a spiritual baptism for themselves.
According to local custom, the two first rotated the prayer wheel clockwise around the temple.
There are a lot of people along the way, and you can see many very old Tibetan old people, while turning the prayer cylinder, twisting the Buddhist beads and prayer wheels in their hands, and chanting in a low voice, the pious and serious appearance will make people's hearts shocked.
After turning around and returning to the gate of the Jokhang Temple, the two of them lined up to buy tickets to enter the visit.
When buying tickets, Ning Hao also learned that due to the limited internal space of the temple, the number of visitors per day is large, and the passage is crowded, there are certain safety hazards, so new regulations have been introduced recently.
After July 25, the Jokhang Temple will also be subject to a ticket reservation system during the peak season.
This made Ning Hao suddenly feel very happy, if he arrived in Lhasa more than half a month late, he would be sad that he would not be able to buy tickets to visit on the same day as he is now.
Photography is also not allowed in the Jokhang Temple, which is dedicated to the 12-year-old golden body of Shakyamuni, and also has many exquisite murals, thangkas, and gold treasures that count by ton.
The golden dome here is not limited to visiting, walking through the capsule gallery standing on the terrace on the second floor, not only can you see the glittering golden dome, but also can look at the Potala Palace in the distance and overlook the Jokhang Temple Square nearby.
