3. Slender ghost
Jimmy is sixteen years old, and the person he admires most in town is Herwin.
He remembered that when he was a young boy, Hervin had built a hut on the edge of town.
His parents had told him that the hut was inhabited by man-eating wizards, and that if Jimmy didn't obey, they would throw him to them.
Thinking of this, Jimmy smiled, not only was Uncle Herwin not a wizard, in his eyes, Herwin was like the kind of hero who would thwart the conspiracy of evil wizards.
Jimmy looked at the red deer in the cart, which was a surprise he had prepared to celebrate Jimmy's sister's admission to college.
He was now planning to hide it in his secret base.
Jimmy didn't explain to Hewen because he was afraid that the news would leak out, and his father had already gone to the city to prepare other food because he was too embarrassed to trouble Hewen, and the money for this red venison was also Jimmy's own small treasury.
Thinking of his sister, Jimmy couldn't help but snort softly, my sister is good at everything, but she always thinks that Uncle Herwin is not as powerful as she says.
"Humph!"
He had seen the trophies in Uncle Hewen's house, antlers up to 2 meters wide, and a huge bear head.
Not to mention the occasional visit to Uncle Herwen, all of whom were well-dressed and looked like rich men in the city, but they were also polite to Uncle Herwen.
Uncle Herwin must have been a legendary adventurer before, and for some reason stayed in this town to live.
Of course, the most important thing for Jimmy is that Hervin once dismissed the bully who bullied him, and even made him convincingly apologize to Jimmy.
Jimmy wants to be like Herwen, someone who can make the bad guys retreat.
"Whew!"
The sound of creatures walking through the forest rang out.
Jimmy walked around in fear.
The road is surrounded by trees and shrubs, and there aren't many people walking on a regular basis, but because the town's hunters and law enforcers clean it regularly, it shouldn't be possible to see wild beasts here.
"Anyone?"
The roar of a beast sounded.
Jimmy quickly pulled out the short knife at his waist, which he had never really used before.
Jimmy yelled:
"Get out of here, I'm not afraid of you!"
A tall, thin shadow appeared on the ground not far ahead, and it seemed that Jimmy's roar did not deter it or attract attention.
Jimmy swallowed, according to the Orion in the town, except for those who have lived in the wilderness since childhood, the rest of the beasts are fierce beasts with strong confidence in their own strength.
Jimmy saw something he couldn't understand.
A slender white arm stretched out of the shadows, and the length of the arm was somewhat disproportionate, neither human, nor animal.
The boy didn't know if he had seen the vision.
He saw that the nails on the front of the five fingers of his arm slowly stretched until they were more than ten centimeters long, and the moonlight was still reflected on the nails.
Jimmy believed that it wouldn't take him two seconds to tear that hand apart.
The monster gradually revealed half of its form from the shadows, and Jimmy had never seen or heard of such a creature in his life.
Such a monster could not exist in the world, and he once again doubted the reality of what he saw.
Half of the tall and thin figure poked out of the shadows, the half-bent figure was already 2 meters high, the white and dry skin covered the whole body, and most importantly, the half of the face it exposed had no facial features, only a huge mouthpart that took up half of the face.
"Ahh
Jimmy finally broke down, dropped the cart and turned to run, while the miserable white figure dragged his slender body behind Jimmy without hurry.
Jimmy could hear drooling several times as he ran, and even he felt the eruption of gas from his mouthparts running through his neck, but it seemed like it was just the wind blowing.
He didn't even dare to look back to see if the other party was still following him.
Finally, he saw the light of the room, and without hesitation, he rushed into the house, slammed the door shut, and then turned to look out the window.
There was silence.
Nothing.
Jimmy let out a long sigh, even if he had a mental problem, it would be better than having a monster behind him.
His mother is supposed to be still working in the store, his sister is studying in the city, and his father has gone shopping early in the morning and doesn't seem to have returned.
Jimmy thought about it, but still not reassured, and planned to go to the utility room in the backyard to take a look, where the only large-caliber rifle in their house was placed.
Jimmy walked to the back door and was about to open it, when a dull cry of pain came from his ear.
The sound was fleeting, and the boy once again wondered if he was hallucinating.
A few noises came from the utility room, and Jimmy turned to rush out the door, but then stopped.
If there really are monsters, who is the one who screams in pain?
Jimmy didn't dare to think about it, and after hesitating for a few seconds, he ran to his parents' room.
He hurriedly rummaged through the drawers in the room, took out a small revolver that had been behind for many years, hurriedly loaded the bullet, and rushed back to the back door again.
Jimmy stopped abruptly at the door, took a deep breath, and whispered:
"You can do it, Jimmy, think of Uncle Herwin, if it were him, he would have rushed out with determination to chase away the monsters. ”
Jimmy opened the back door and crept to the utility room, stopping in front of the unmistakable utility room.
Jimmy holds a gun in one hand and grips the doorknob in the other, looking nervous but determined.
"Click!"
The door opened from the inside.
A fat figure appeared in front of Jimmy's eyes, and he almost pulled the trigger.
"Daddy, what are you doing here? ”
Jimmy's father's body blocked the door, and the boy noticed that it was so dark that he didn't even have a spare oil lamp.
Jimmy didn't put down his pistol.
The fat daddy said expressionlessly:
"Boy, didn't I go out in the morning to buy something for your sister and prepare for the banquet?
The middle-aged man looked at the boy suspiciously.
Jimmy breathed a sigh of relief, put his hand down, and asked:
"Daddy, did you hear any strange noises?"
The middle-aged man smiled and said:
"Did you kid stay up late, there was no strange sound, only the sound of me putting things. ”
Jimmy laughed out loud with relief:
"I've been in a good state for a few days, and I've been in a bad state lately, so why don't you turn on the lights when you put things down, Dad?"
Jimmy's father showed the usual "serious" expression that Jimmy used to teach him, but because of his fat face, he couldn't be scared when he was serious.
"Isn't the lamp money money? Get back to sleep for me, stay up late every day and talk so much." ”
Then the man kicked Jimmy, who laughed and ran back.
It wasn't until Jimmy returned to the room, closed the curtains, and turned off the lights that the middle-aged man turned around and went back to the utility room.
It's still dark.
