Chapter 8: Edward Norton
On the morning of the interview, Marshall, who had come to pick up Theorod, seemed even more nervous than the main one. Theorod's calmness in his eyes was due to his ignorance of Hollywood, so he had no way of knowing how important his first work was to him, but Marshall did.
He even had a little ambition in his heart -- what if, only if, Theolod did get the interview, and the salary he got would solve the dilemma of the two of them that they were now struggling with.
"How are you preparing? Do you want to simulate the interview scene on the road later?" After all, you are the first time to participate in the interview, and you still walked through the back door......" Marshall said very quietly, he opened the car door for Theolodra, "You may not know the interview procedure, first go in and wait for the interviewer to notify you to start and then introduce yourself, don't be nervous, don't worry, you just follow the calm and calm like you recommend to me, and then ......"
Theolod sat in the co-pilot and quietly listened to Marshall's chatter on the side, listening, the corners of his mouth gradually hooked up a beautiful arc. This guy, no matter what world it is, has a cute reaction to start chattering as soon as he is nervous...... Theorod seemed to think of the past, and he turned his head to look at him with a smile in his eyes.
Marshall finally noticed Theorod's playful expression, he clenched the steering wheel with both hands, and glanced at him quickly: "What?"
"This car doesn't seem to be the one you used to have. Theorod brought up an unrelated topic, "Your Ford isn't that new." β
"Oh, I rented this car, as for the previous one...... I sold, after all, I don't have much liquidity left. Marshall shrugged, in fact most of the money he spent selling his car was spent on dinner for the director, who had no memory of who his father was.
Theolod immediately reacted to what the liquidity he was referring to, nodded silently, and looked out the window.
Marshall glanced at him a few more times, and as if he thought Theorod's silence was due to his nervousness, he immediately put on the music in the car to try to put him at ease. Of course, if you can ignore the tune he hums, it will indeed relax Theorod.
This guy...... Theorod laughed helplessly and bitterly, and he reminded him of those memories again.
The interview for "Fear of the First Degree" took place at the headquarters of Rischel Entertainment. Although more than 1,900 people were brushed off in the first batch, there were still as many as 200 people who entered the second round of interviews, and in order to avoid being too crowded, Ryschel Entertainment divided these 200 people into two batches, interviewing 100 people in the morning and 100 people in the afternoon.
Theolod looked at the number in his hand, it happened to be 100, the last person in the morning, and it was obviously a number to make up. But he didn't pay too much attention to it, he knew that it was not easy for Marshall to fight for this role, so after signing in, he silently went to the corner and looked at all kinds of people in the huge hall.
Some of them are born with a weak and innocent face that can be bullied, and some people are born to be graphic models. This room seems to bring together the freshest little fresh meat in the whole of Hollywood, from the point of view of appearance, everyone has an advantage, but this is not a beauty contest after all, and the only one who wins in the end is the one with the best acting skills.
Of course, a little luck is needed. On the way to the interview, once the filmmaker meets the person who catches his eye, then the whole interview will be over, and all the interviewees in the future can pack up their things and go home, and they will not even give you the opportunity to talk to the examiner.
Marshall sat next to Theorod and whispered to him about the people in the room whom he could name, most of them "old" people between the ages of 23 and 25, some of whom had acted in small TV series, some had been models, and some had even appeared in a movie or two.
And Theorod is like the youngest of them.
Theolod was also secretly observing when Marshall introduced, some of them seemed very nervous, these people looked like young men with little experience, and most of them seemed very calm, occasionally talking to people they knew to discuss their understanding of the role.
Theolod noticed that one of the men was sitting in the corner with his agent, just like him, and no one around had come to talk to him.
The first thing that attracted him was the other party's looks, he didn't look much older than him, maybe just an adult, Theorod knew at first glance that he was a good fit for Alan, not only because of his pure and soft face like a white rabbit, but also because of the occasional smile he showed when talking to his agent.
Friendly, but not overly intimate, warm, but not too scorching. Theorod instantly thought in his mind that if the corners of his mouth were a little more crooked, and his acting skills were good enough, this pure smile could turn into a devil's arc in an instant.
Based on his appearance alone, this guy can easily take the role of Alan.
"Who is he?" Theolod gestured to Marshall, the boy over there.
Marshall stared at him for a long time, as if recalling the information about him, and finally he shook his head: "I don't know, maybe it's a newcomer like you, you see, no one around knows him, just like no one knows you." β
As he spoke, his eyes glanced at the new interviewer who pushed the door out from the outside, and a mixture of nervous scrutiny and annoyance suddenly appeared on his face, he tugged at the sleeve of Theolod, who was still observing the young man, and mouthed Nunu, the man who came in: "Look, he is the Matt Damon I told you before, he has starred in six films, and he is also a top student at Harvard, which is considered to be Allen's big hit." β
Theolod set his sights on the tall, thin brunette man, who was not typically handsome, but had a unique charm, and when he came in, many interviewers looked at him. Theolod hasn't seen a single movie starring him, so he doesn't judge the other person in vain.
Gradually, there were more people in the hall, and some of the agents who followed up left for the broker's lounge under the leadership of the filmmaker. And when Marshall left, it was like he was about to enter the "little black room" of the interview, and he turned back three times and told Theolod again and again before leaving, and he couldn't help but shake his head when he saw it.
Who is seventeen years old...... Grandpa Theo, who had a boyish face, thought cheekily.
At this moment, Theorod heard a voice in his ear that was easy to make people feel good: "Our agent is more nervous than us. β
He turned his head and found that the young man who had attracted his attention before was sitting in Marshall's position just now, and when he saw Theolod looking at him, he immediately gave him a very good-looking smile, and pointed to the man who left the waiting room with Marshall: "That's my agent, you see, is he and your agent acting like two twins?"
Unlike his Sven looks, the boy's personality is unexpectedly cheerful and easy to get along with.
"Sometimes I think of him as a diligent housewife. Theolod nodded a little jokingly, of course, the person he was talking about was the Marshall he remembered, "Well, don't tell him that I said that." β
"Haha," the boy smiled, "don't worry, I don't want to be beaten up by him, after all, he looks quite manly." β
"Actually, you're trying to say that he looks decadent like a hangover guy and just blows up, no, I'm going to have to defend my agent's image, he likes to drink, but he's not one of those bad drunks. β
"Oh, I'm sorry, but I didn't mean to offend. β
And I didn't take it seriously. β
The boy and Theolod looked at each other and smiled, and then he held out his hand to him, "Edward Norton, it's a pleasure to meet you. β
"Theolod Recht. Theolod naturally shook hands with the other party.
"Germans?" Norton was keenly aware of Theorod's last name, and judging by the way he reacted so quickly, he was very intelligent, or had read a lot of books. In many cases, most Americans will think of "Lechter" as a native surname.
"Actually, my father was German, my mother was Italian, and now, I'm American. Theorod replied in pure American English without any accent.
Norton was about to say something, but the person in charge of the lounge suddenly walked out of the interview room on the side, told everyone sitting in the hall that the interview had begun, and invited Number 1 into the room and Number 2 was ready.
After the interview began, Norton didn't discuss anything with Theorod. Theolod saw him leaning back in his chair, his eyes swept at Matt Damon, his expression seemed to be a little eager, and he suddenly spoke: "You don't seem to be nervous at all?"
"Nervous? Of course, I'm a little nervous right now, I have a couple of interviews this week, and if I can get one, I probably won't have to worry about my rent. Norton shook his head, as if thinking about his rent, and frowned, and Theorod had to admit that his expression was very cute.
And the cute big boy suddenly looked at him again, as if he thought of something. "You don't look nervous, Theoβcan I call you that?" he said, shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly as Theolod did, "You should be auditioning for the first time like me, right? Sorry, I noticed you the moment you came in, because you looked so ......"
"Young, because I'm really not very old, just a few months after I turned seventeen, I should be about the same age as you. β
Norton's eyes widened slightly, and his blue eyes, which were always full of kindness, were surprised, and then, he smiled helplessly: "No, no, no, you are not very old, and I am not very good-looking, you must know that I am nine years older than you." β
Twenty-six? Hearing this number, Theolod's mind did not change much, because he was also accustomed to seeing Hollywood stars who grew up in reverse, and he himself was one of them, and at the age of sixty, he looked no different from a man in his forties and fifties. But on the surface, he showed a look of surprise at the right time: "Are you kidding?"
"I also wish one of my jokes would make me nine years younger. β
"Okay, well, in fact, I'm just trying to see the world today. Now it seems that I have indeed achieved that goal. Theorod joked in an exaggerated tone.
Norton accepted Theorod's good-natured joke, and he also said to him in the tone of an elder enlightening the younger one: "Seventeen years old I was still in school, and seventeen years old you have already come to interview for the first movie that I can only interview at the age of twenty-six, whether it is successful or not, is it? β
Theolod smiled noncommittally, he liked the child's character.
Number 1 quickly walked out of the room, looking a little downcast, and Number 2 waited for a moment before entering the door. Some of the next interviewees came out of the room quickly, while others waited for a while. Theolod chatted with Norton as he observed the men's expressions. It seems that the interviewer put a lot of pressure on them, so much so that they don't look very good when they come out.
Except for No. 47 Matt Damon, he looks quite relaxed and has been in the room for a long time.
Norton and Theolod have exactly 99 numbers and 100, and probably the filmmakers will arrange people with no film experience to the end. In the exchange with Norton, Theorod found that he was actually a very wise person, confident in speech but not conceited, modest and courteous, talented, and happened to be a graduate of Yale University like Theorod in the previous world, or a history department that had nothing to do with acting, which made Theorod even more curious about his acting skills.
About four hours passed, and finally arrived at the 99th, Edward Norton. Theolod hugged him as a sign of encouragement, and watched him walk into the room. And he spent the longest time in that room than the previous 98, even surpassing Matt Damon.
It wasn't until fifteen minutes later that he came out with a confident smile that seemed to be turning out well. However, interviewees at the end of the interview can't stay in the hall for long, so Norton gave Theolo Derby a thumbs up and left the hall under the guidance of the staff.
Now, in the huge hall, there was only a pile of empty chairs, and Theorod was alone. The person in charge did not inform Theolod that he could leave, probably because several interviewers in the mysterious interview room were engaged in a heated discussion, and this discussion actually took them ten minutes.
Ten minutes later, the person in charge came out of the interview room and looked at Theorod.
"Number 100, Theolodrecht, you can come in for an interview. β
