A single man is a man who has never married a wife and has children, and who lives alone. It means to spend a lifetime alone.

Our village is located in a mountainous area in eastern China, with inconvenient transportation, poor information, many mountains and few lands, and poor production and development environment. The village has a population of more than 400, and as of 2013, there were 12 single men in the village.

Most of these men are celibate, because their families were relatively poor when they were young, and no girl was willing to marry them, some were physically defective or slightly less intelligent than ordinary people, and some had a wooden personality and did not like girls. They often have parents who die young, and they lack the care of others.

It is said that single men have less family fetters and less drags, but they can't escape loneliness. This is the biggest problem that single men face. During the day, they have to work in the fields, in factories, or in odd jobs to earn a living, and when they return home, they have to do the chores that women do, including laundry and cooking, and taking care of the elderly.

As the saying goes, when people eat grains, they inevitably have seven emotions and six desires. As a normal man, it is inevitable to have sexual requirements, and for single men, the needs of "sex" can only be suppressed. At night, the house is deserted, there is no one to talk to, and it is unbearable. Although there are many ways and places to vent in today's society, many single men are difficult to vent due to the constraints of traditional ethics and morality. They generally face the problem of "sexual hunger".

When single men are young, they can still take care of themselves, and they seem to be very comfortable on the surface, but when they lose their ability to take care of themselves in old age, they have no children and relatives around to take care of them, and they are more and more depressed and lonely psychologically. In remote mountainous areas and old areas with relatively poor economic conditions, the situation of single men in their old age is even more unimaginable. They hope that the government will introduce more policies to care for them in their old age, and hope that the village will help them solve their worries about the elderly.
