Chapter 401: What Harry Saw (Part II)
"After Ogden helped Merope fix the jar, Marvolo didn't thank him, but sneered at his daughter and said, 'It's good to have this great man from the Ministry of Magic here, isn't it? Maybe he'll get you out of my hands, maybe he doesn't hate dirty squibs.' ΊīŧĨ ΊΊīŧ īŧââ
Merope didn't look at anyone, like his father, and didn't thank Ogden, but picked up the jar, put it back on the shelf with trembling hands, and then stood there motionless, her back pressed against the wall between the filthy window and the stove, as if wishing she could sink into the stone wall and disappear completely. â
"At this point, Ogden told Marvolo why he was here, and he said angrily, 'So what? Morfin taught a Muggle a lesson, so what?'"
"Especially when Ogden pulled out a small roll of parchment from the inside pocket of his coat and said it was a document summoning Morfin to the Ministry of Magic for interrogation, Marvolo screamed, 'Summons!'Who do you think you dare to summon my son?' Do you think we're the same as the Ministry? Do you know who you're talking to, you filthy little mudblood, huh?' and poked his yellow dirty fingers in the chest. â
"When Ogden responded, Marvolo showed Ogden the black gem ring he was wearing on his middle finger, and he dangled it in front of Ogden and said, 'See this, see this, do you know what this is, do you know where it came from?' It has been passed down in our family for centuries, our family has been around for so long, and it has always been a pureblood! Do you know how much someone would pay to buy it from me? The gem has Peverell's coat of arms engraved on it!'"
Then Marvolo rushed to Melop again, stretched one hand to his daughter's throat, pulled a gold chain around her neck, pulled it to Ogdon, and shook a heavy gold locket at him, so that Melop coughed so much that she couldn't even breathe. â
"Damn fellow!"
Harry nodded in agreement, then added, "Marvolo shouted, 'Slytherin's! Slytherin!'" He looked at Darren, "Slytherin's locket. â
Darren blinked his eyes to show that he understood, and Harry continued, "Marvolo shouted, 'We are the last of his living heirs,' and then, letting go of Merope, said smugly, 'So don't talk to us in that tone, don't treat us like mud on the soles of your shoes!' We've been pure-bloods, wizards for generations - I'm sure you don't have that to show off!' Then he spat at Ogden's feet, and Morfin burst into laughter again, while Merope curled up by the window, her head hanging and silent, her head straight over her face. â
"Poor man. â
Despite what Marvolo had to say, Ogden did not budge, insisting that Muffin would be tried on September 14 to answer the accusation that he had used magic in front of a Muggle and had caused harm and suffering to that Muggle, when the sound of Tintin bells and the sound of horses' hooves and loud laughter could be heard outside the window. â
"It was two people, a man and a woman, and they were talking about the Gaunt family, and the woman called each other 'Tom'. â
"Tom Riddle, father of the mystery man!"
"Yes, Morfin knew that Glopp liked Tom, but that man was a Muggle, so Marvolo was very angry, and he asked Glopp, 'Is this true?
Merope shook her head frantically, squeezing herself into the corner, apparently unable to say a word, but Muffin confessed on her behalf, and Marvolo grabbed her daughter by the throat with both hands, yelling, 'You abominable little squib!......'
"No!"
I shouted the same thing, and so did Ogden, who raised his wand and cast a spell to save Glopp and knock Marvolo back, tripped over his chair and fell to the ground, and Morfin leapt from his chair and rushed towards Ogden, brandishing the bloody knife and shooting a jumble of curses from his wand. â
"Ogden fled, rushed onto the dirt road, and turned quickly onto the main road, and we followed him all the way, and met the man who had just passed by the Gaunt's house, a very handsome black-headed young man on a red horse. â
"Wait, you're saying he's a black-headed young man?" Hearing this, Darren suddenly remembered something, and hurriedly asked, "Have you seen him anywhere else?"
"Somewhere else," Harry frowned, trying to remember, "I seem to have an impression when you say that, ah, when I had nightmares before, I saw a black-headed young man who looked a little like him, but certainly not alone. Darren nodded, indicating that he had heard, and that this was probably the worst news he had ever heard......
"After meeting the young man, Professor Dumbledore took me out of the meditation basin, and he told me that Ogden's apparition had moved to the Ministry, and that he had returned fifteen minutes later with reinforcements, and that Morfin and his father had resisted, but both were subdued and escorted out of the cabin, and later the Wizengamot convicted them, and that Morfin had already had a history of attacking Muggles and was sentenced to three years in prison in Azkaban, and that Marvolo had harmed several other officials of the Ministry of Magic in addition to Ogden, and was sentenced to six months in prison. â
"They deserve it, they deserve it!"
Dumbledore said that Marvolo, his son Morfin, and daughter Merope were the last descendants of the Gaunt family, a very old wizarding family, known for their restlessness and violence, because they were accustomed to consanguineous marriages, this character trait became more pronounced from generation to generation, their lack of rationality, and their special fondness for extravagant pomp, so that long before Marvolo's generations, the family's fortune was squandered, and Marvolo ended up destitute, frighteningly bad, but arrogant and conceited. â
Hearing Harry talk about the "habits" of the Gaunt family, Darren suddenly felt that it was fortunate that Marvolo's wife and Merope's mother did not appear here, otherwise, I am afraid that Dumbledore would not be able to introduce the people of the Gaunt family and their relationship......
